Now, it's using that influence to kick-start its own music-streaming app, TikTok Music. Like TikTok's interface, TikTok Music includes a "For You" feed of recommended content. It's still very early days for TikTok Music, and its rivals have a big headstart — Apple Music and Spotify are each in more than 100 countries. But other relative newcomers like YouTube Music have shown there's room to break into music streaming, particularly for platforms that can leverage another popular app to drive sign-ups. TikTok has not yet said when TikTok Music will roll out to other countries including the US.

A Russian warship was struck by a Ukrainian drone boat that it doesn't appear to have seen coming. Just a few days before this attack, Russian vessels were fighting off drone boats in another incident. "It just seems very strange they didn't respond at all to the incoming drone boats," Clark added. The Russian ship may have assumed it was safe in Novorossiysk, given that the port is roughly 350 miles from the Ukrainian port city of Odessa, but it shouldn't have. The reach of Ukraine's drone boats was hardly a secret.

The analysis found that the fully remote companies in the study had head-count growth rates over double those of fully in-person companies. The findings were released against a backdrop of many major companies requiring employees to return to the office full time. This push may lead thousands of Americans to look for work at more flexible companies to avoid expensive commutes and childcare. The study found the average company requiring in-office work asked staff to come in just over 2.5 days a week. Over the 12-month period, fully flexible and structured-hybrid companies grew their workforce by more than double the rate of full-time in-office companies.

The Fifth Circuit blocked Biden's new rules to ease the debt relief process for defrauded borrowers. The changes to borrower defense are now blocked as the legal process plays out. The rules would create a more streamlined application process for borrowers seeking debt relief, along with expanding the types of misconduct that would qualify a borrower for a loan discharge. "Defrauded borrowers are legally entitled to relief and their institutions should be held accountable," he said. For now, the department's new rules for borrower defense will be blocked as the legal process proceeds.

Fearless Media is a newsletter about the future of entertainment, media, and tech by Creative Media chairman Peter Csathy . Disney CEO Bob Iger's comments regarding the strikers may hint at his deeper M&A state of mind. For the past decades, Disney CEO Bob Iger has been perhaps the most revered media and entertainment titan, beloved by both employees and Wall Street — a rare feat and balancing act to be sure. SAG President Fran Drescher joined voices across entertainment in calling Iger's comments "tone deaf" and rich for someone who reportedly makes more than 500 times the median salary of Disney employees. In early July, Mark Zuckerberg unveiled the latest and perhaps most consequential product in Meta's history: a new model of Mark Zuckerberg. Silicon Valley Zuck was a husband and father with a legacy to build and protect at all costs. Silicon Valley Zuck was suddenly faced with something he'd never dealt with before, shrinking revenue. Still clinging to his persona as Silicon Valley Zuck, Zuckerberg engaged in an all-out media blitz to hawk his vision for the metaverse. They were the sort of people Harvard Zuck would have scoffed at and Silicon Valley Zuck would have gently ignored.

Twitter users are not so pleased about Twitter's new logo "X" because it looks like a porn website. Comedy writer Jesse McLaren dissed the new logo in a tweet posting an image of various websites with the "X" logo and wrote: "These are all porn except one. I didn't know about your rebrand idea and was looking for Twitter Verified, and scrolled right past your X logo, thinking it was a porn site. Users have even drawn comparisons with the logo of adult streaming site XVideos, which has been trending on Twitter since Sunday. Police halted workers in the middle of removing the "Twitter" sign from its San Francisco headquarters, leaving behind only the letters "er" at present.

On Monday, Elon Musk rolled out a major rebrand of Twitter as "X." The "X" logo has popped up all over the site and on the side of the company's main offices. The conference rooms at Twitter headquarters were even renamed to "eXposure" and "s3Xy," the New York Times reports. To reflect Twitter's new Elon Musk-fueled rebrand as "X," the company is changing inside and out — even down to the names of its office conference rooms. He also projected a massive "X" logo onto the side of Twitter headquarters in honor of the unveiling.

Another two hours later, five million people had downloaded Threads. When he woke on Thursday morning, the app had been downloaded more than 30 million times, he said. In less than a day, Threads — which is aimed as a rival to Twitter — appears to have taken the crown as the most rapidly downloaded app ever. It easily outstripped ChatGPT, the chatbot, which was downloaded one million times within its first five days, according to OpenAI, ChatGPT’s maker. Some of Twitter’s most-followed users — such as Ellen DeGeneres, Bill Gates, Shakira and Oprah Winfrey — immediately joined Threads and began posting.

Stanford students say interest in generative AI has already surpassed the crypto hype. Now, since OpenAI released ChatGPT in November, interest in AI on campus has surged, more than a dozen Stanford students and faculty told Insider. By the 2022-2023 school year, that number jumped to 140, with 14 courses that specifically touched on "generative AI." Sid SharmaSiddharth Sharma, a sophomore majoring in computer science, said those doubts haven't yet swept through campus. Chief Justice John Roberts voted with the liberals on the Supreme Court in key cases this term. Hardline conservatives have soured on the chief justice for his opinions siding with the Court's liberal justices in recent years. "Roberts' is the one whose name will be attached to this — it is the Roberts Court. The Times found in this term, the chief justice voted less often with the conservative majority and voted with liberal Justice Elena Kagan 14% more than the last term. Political campaigns are using AI to create election material, attack ads, and donation requests. —DeSantis War Room 🐊 (@DeSantisWarRoom) June 5, 2023Campaigns, ranging from mayoral races to the 2024 presidential election, have already been using artificial intelligence to create election ads or outreach emails — with some reportedly seeing benefits in the tool. Beyond fake images, West wrote that artificial intelligence could also be used for "very precise audience targeting" to reach swing voters. During his first appearance before Congress in May, the CEO of OpenAI, which created ChatGPT, admitted his concerns about the use of artificial intelligence in elections as the tool advances. "This is a remarkable time to be working on artificial intelligence," he said.

A female bald eagle abducted Tuffy, a baby hawk, from his nest and began caring for him as her own. This behavior has only been spotted in the wild four other times, the Los Angeles Times reports. This behavior — strange, according to experts, because eagles prey on hawks — is even more exciting for bird enthusiasts because it has only been seen in the wild four other times, the Los Angeles Times reports. Doug Gillard — former Olympian hammer thrower turned birdwatcher — was the first to spot the strange family in a Bay Area forest, and has nicknamed the baby hawk Tuffy. He now lives with his adoptive parents and their child, whom Gillard nicknamed Lola, according to the Los Angeles Times.

On Friday, prosecutors on Donald Trump's classified documents case asked that discovery materials be kept confidential. A protective order on discovery materials is standard, and Trump's lawyers did not object to the request. "The Discovery Materials, along with any information derived therefrom, shall not be disclosed to the public or the news media," Reinhart's order reads. Requesting a protective order on discovery evidence is standard practice in federal cases. Lawyers for Trump and Nauta did not object to the motion, prosecutors said last week.

The LA Dodgers' LGBTQ Pride Night turned controversial when an activist group that offended the religious right was invited. But their claim to have successfully boycotted a Dodgers game for its LGBTQ Pride participation and guests — notably echoed by presidential candidate Ron DeSantis — appears to be false. Ron DeSantis, who recently launched his 2024 presidential bid, tweeted in support of the protesters and claimed the stadium was "virtually empty." "The virtually empty stadium for the game itself was a powerful image," DeSantis said in his tweet. Gallup says "quiet quitting," in which workers do the bare minimum, is a global phenomenon. Forty-four percent of respondents also said they'd experienced stress at work the previous day. Gallup's 2023 State of the Global Workplace report surveyed 122,416 employed respondents ages 15 and over in more than 160 countries from 2022 to 2023 and concluded that 59% of the workers worldwide were "quiet quitting." The report used respondents' answers to a series of 12 questions to split those surveyed into three categories at work: engaged, not engaged, and actively disengaged. Gallup's report estimated that such low engagement at work was costing the global economy $8.8 trillion, or 9% of global gross domestic product.

Russia's defeat to Ukraine would be a tipping point, former intelligence officers told Insider. During his two decades in power, the Russian president has surrounded himself with an inner circle of hardline loyalists known as "the Siloviki." But in the chaotic fallout of Russia's invasion of Ukraine, Putin's grasp on power appears much less secure, former intelligence officers told Insider. The faltering invasion has prompted criticism of the Russian president that would have previously been unthinkable. Ingram cautioned that Russian defeat could provoke even broader global instability.

Despite their ease of use, passwords come with significant downsides: More than 80% of data breaches are the result of weak passwords. In 2004, Bill Gates famously envisioned the death of traditional passwords, and there have been several attempts to replace them.
