Dutch digital bank Bunq is plotting re-entry into the U.K. to tap into a "large and underserved" market of some 2.8 million British "digital nomads." "Bunq focusses on digital nomads who tend to roam the world," Ali Niknam, Bunq's CEO and co-founder, told CNBC via emailed comments. And in the U.K., Bunq is awaiting a decision from financial regulators on an application to become a licensed e-money institution, or EMI. The El Niño of 252 million years ago would have originated in the Panthalassic Ocean, a body of water much larger than today’s Pacific that could hold more heat, which in turn would have strengthened and sustained El Niño effects. The planet had experienced similar episodes earlier but they hadn’t triggered a mass extinction. A prolonged and intense El Niño also explained why extinctions had begun on land before they occurred in the ocean, the study said. This data showed how temperature rose at different latitudes as the mass extinction unfolded. El Niño events today are known to cause coral bleaching and mass mortality of fish, the study noted, but the ecological impact and future trajectory of El Niño events in a warming climate are unknown.

BMW cut its profit margin forecast for the year Tuesday due to sluggish demand in China, its key market, and problems related to a braking system supplied by Continental, sending the carmaker’s shares close to a two-year low. The German luxury carmaker said delivery hold-ups linked to the braking system would have a negative effect on sales in the second half of the year, adding that more than 1.5 million cars were affected. Overall, BMW said, it will incur “a high three-digit-million amount” in warranty costs in the third quarter as a result. BMW also flagged ongoing muted demand in China affecting sales in the country, joining the automakers facing difficulties in the world’s second-biggest economy, which is also the world’s largest auto market. “Despite stimulus measures from the government, consumer sentiment remains weak,” BMW said.
