LONDON, May 4 (Reuters Breakingviews) - Novo Nordisk’s (NOVOb.CO) weighty valuation could be headed for a crash diet. This lofty position is thanks to its domination of the obesity market via its Wegovy drug. Obesity sales for Novo are still only expected to reach $12 billion by 2027, according to estimates from Visible Alpha. It also remains unclear how fast the obesity drug market will grow. Novo reported earnings before interest and taxes of 25 billion Danish crowns ($3.72 billion), above an average analyst forecast of 22.4 billion, according to a Refinitiv poll.

The approvals for the project in northern Alaska give ConocoPhillips permission to construct three drill pads, 25.8 miles of gravel roads, an air strip and hundreds of miles of ice roads. With markets increasingly volatile, BMO Capital Markets thinks investors should turn to a two-way strategy that provide returns and protection at the same time. The main active ingredient in Ozempic is semaglutide, which is also the key ingredient in Novo's obesity drug Wegovy. Several less efficacious obesity drugs from multiple drugmakers have previously been approved, but bungled launches and serious side effects led to tepid sales and even some market withdrawals. Novo faces looming competition from Eli Lilly (LLY.N), whose weekly injection Mounjaro won U.S. approval for type 2 diabetes in May and is under fast-track review as a weight-loss drug. Amgen (AMGN.O) also has an early-stage, once-monthly obesity drug that is being keenly watched. Elon Musk, the world's richest person and now Twitter owner, has offered his own endorsement of the weight-loss benefits of semaglutide on the social media website.

An Idaho potato farm intentionally violated H-2A rules and underpaid guest workers, the DOL said. The farm even threatened to end their contracts if they didn't accept illegal wages, per the DOL. Jorgensen Management, a potato farm in Bancroft, southeast Idaho, gave workers nearly $160,000 in unpaid wages after a DOL investigation. But Jorgensen Management didn't pay guest workers for inbound transportation costs or meet housing safety and health standards, the DOL said. The farm also failed to pay the required rates to 69 domestic workers hired alongside H-2A visa workers, per the DOL.
