Then there are even more nuanced roles, such as AI ethicists (whose job is, essentially, to maintain a responsible AI framework). Not only are there more types of jobs as a result of the generative AI boom, but companies are actually hiring more because of the generative AI surge. That's why experts say upskilling existing employees is essential to any organization's AI integration. AI is fast — business consulting firm Accenture's report on so-called "AI maturity" predicts that AI transformation will occur 13% faster than overall digital transformation through 2024.

Here's how Bank of America, Morgan Stanley, and UBS recommend investing in AI. Bank of America, Morgan Stanley, and UBS are more optimistic about AI stocks after each expressed hesitations earlier this year as shares of companies tied to the technology exploded higher. In contrast, Morgan Stanley has dismissed concerns that AI stocks are in a bubble. "Inevitably, the market will compare AI to the dot-com boom," wrote Morgan Stanley analyst Shawn Kim in a July report. As for chipmakers, Morgan Stanley agreed with Bank of America that the path forward is bifurcated.

An Asian MIT student was shocked when an AI tool turned her white for a professional headshot. She said she's been put off using AI image tools for now because it didn't create usable results. A recent study showed that some AI image generators have issues with gender and racial bias. The second image showed that the AI tool had altered her features to appear more Caucasian with lighter skin and blue eyes. The researchers explained that this is because the AI tool was trained on biased data which can amplify stereotypes.

The job market for tech workers remains strong, and especially so for those picking up emerging artificial intelligence skills. For comparison, India was hiring for 25,900 AI jobs and the UK was hiring for 16,825 roles involving the skill in June. But given the emerging and quickly developing nature of the tools, it can be tricky to display your expertise in a particular AI skill as a job candidate, Neave says. With that being said, Neave recommends interested job applicants build up their AI skills and stand out from the competition in three key ways:Stay on top of developments. "If you want to take it to the next level, you can fine-tune these large language models based on your proprietary business data," Neave says.

Hong Kong CNN —TSMC, the world’s largest chipmaker, says it plans to invest nearly 90 billion New Taiwan dollars ($2.9 billion) to build an advanced chip plant in Taiwan, as it expands production to meet booming demand for artificial intelligence (AI) products. Wei told analysts the company plans to roughly double its capacity for advanced packaging capacity in 2024 compared to 2023, in order to meet “strong demand” for AI chips from its customers, which include Nvidia (NVDA) and AMD (DOX). Advanced packaging in the semiconductor industry involves using high-tech methods to aggregate components from various wafers in order to create a more powerful computer chip. That’s the kind of AI underlying ChatGPT, Google (GOOGL)’s Bard, Dall-E and many of the other new AI technologies. TSMC is considered a national treasure in Taiwan, supplying semiconductors to global tech giants including Apple (AAPL) and Qualcomm (QCOM).

Most outsourced programmers in India will see their jobs wiped out in the next year or two, Stability AI CEO Emad Mostaque said. "I think that it affects different types of jobs in different ways," Mostaque said on a call with analysts at the Swiss investment bank last week. In India, Mostaque said, "outsourced coders up to level three programmers will be gone in the next year or two, whereas in France, you'll never fire a developer." "So it affects different models in different countries in different ways in different sectors." India is home to more than 5 million software programmers, who are most under threat from the impacts of advanced AI tools like ChatGPT, according to a report from Bloomberg.

An AI engineer says most people don't understand what AI can really do and what it can't, yet. Those working in AI understand when startup claims are realistic and when they're mostly hype. Generative AI is just way, way overhyped right now and that means that many of the AI startups getting VC funding today are going to fail. Today's AI can't really do what so many startups say their apps can do because AI can't reliably predict things. So, how can you tell if an AI startup's technology will work or if it and the company will likely fail?

Researchers found popular GPT-detectors flagged essays by non-native English speakers as AI-written. Systems that detect AI-generated writing are flagging essays written by non-native English speakers as bot-generated, researchers from Stanford University said. In the study published Monday, the researchers ran more than 100 essays written by non-native English speakers through seven popular GPT detectors. The researchers also fed the detectors essays written by US eighth graders who speak English natively. More than half of the essays written by non-native English speakers were marked as AI-generated by the detection systems, the Stanford researchers found.

New York CNN —As Silicon Valley and beyond is gripped by the fervor of artificial intelligence, Melinda French Gates is raising the alarm that more women must be involved in developing these tech tools. AI models have long taken heat for their ability to perpetuate biases, especially around women and people of color. The new crop of generative AI tools like OpenAI’s ChatGPT and Dall-E are trained on vast troves of online data – data that often carries the same biases as humans. In her interview with Harlow, Gates also revealed that she never endorses specific candidates because she votes for both sides of the aisle. “Too often we have decisions being made for women, not by women,” Gates said.

Dave Willner has had a front-row seat to the evolution of the worst things on the internet. It didn’t take long in the job before Mr. Willner found himself considering a familiar threat. “I am not surprised that it was a thing that people would attempt to do,” Mr. Willner said. “But to be very clear, neither were the folks at OpenAI.”For all of the recent talk of the hypothetical existential risks of generative A.I., experts say it is this immediate threat — child predators using new A.I.

AI tools may be able to predict your political views, according to a new study. Researchers found that AI links right-wing views to people who look happy and women deemed "attractive." The ability to accurately predict someone's political leanings presents a "threat to privacy." AI may be able to predict your political views based on how you look — and that could cause issues down the line, new research suggests. The purpose of the March study, researchers wrote, "was to demonstrate the significant privacy threat posed by the intersection of deep learning techniques and readily-available photographs."
