China's yuan rose to its strongest level in nearly 16 months on Friday on bets that Beijing will unveil fresh economic stimulus following a jumbo U.S. rate cut, though gains were capped by dollar buying from Chinese state banks. The onshore yuan strengthened to as much as 7.0420 per dollar, the firmest level since May 24, 2023, on track for a six-session rising streak. The Fed cut rates by a larger than usual 50-basis-points on Wednesday. On Friday, China's major state-owned banks were seen buying dollars in the onshore market to prevent the yuan from appreciating too fast. Prior to the market opening, the People's Bank of China set the midpoint rate at 7.0644 per dollar, its strongest in nearly 16 months.

For every 10% increase in the amount of a person’s diet made up of ultraprocessed foods, the team found that there was a 17% increased risk for developing type 2 diabetes, the data showed. The scientists also found that reducing the amount of ultraprocessed food you are consuming can lower the risk, according to the study. “Ultra-processed foods are everywhere,” Dicken said via email. “We also know that increased body fat (from excess calories) increases the risk of type 2 diabetes.

London CNN —Scientists in the United Kingdom have stored the entire human genome on a “5D memory crystal,” in the hope that it could be used in the future as a blueprint to bring humanity back from extinction. The crystal is stored in the Memory of Mankind archive in Hallstatt, Austria. “The visual key inscribed on the crystal gives the finder knowledge of what data is stored inside and how it could be used,” said Kazansky. In 2018, Kazansky and his team used the memory crystal technology to store Isaac Asimov’s “Foundation” trilogy of science fiction books, which were then launched into space aboard a Tesla Roadster. The technology has also been used to store major documents from human history, including the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and the Magna Carta.
