Aziz originally sought $40 million in a civil rights lawsuit in July. The settlement will be split between Aziz and the estate of the late Khalil Islam, who died in 2009. Paperwork for the settlement will be signed over the next few weeks, with New York City paying $26 million and the state of New York paying $10 million, Shanies told the AP. The settlement will be split equally between Aziz and the estate of Islam, The New York Times reported, citing Nicholas Paolucci, the director of public affairs for the New York City Law Department, and Shanies.

"Since January of last year, companies have announced over $100 billion in EV, battery, and charging investments here in America," Yellen said, citing plans for a $4.4 billion battery plant in central Ohio announced earlier this month by Honda Motor Co and LG Energy Solution . "The wave of new battery investments in the Midwest has been so significant that some commentators are dubbing the region as the new 'Battery Belt,'" Yellen said. Yellen also said that bill provides bonus incentives that will encourage investments in low-income communities and cities and sectors that have seen chronic disinvestment and job losses. "This is a place-based investment strategy designed to broaden economic opportunity across all communities," Yellen said.

A network of political action committees supported by cryptocurrency industry leaders are planning a last-minute ad campaign in support of congressional candidates, according to one of the groups' chief strategists. Web3 Forward and Crypto Innovation, two super PACs financed by the crypto executives, are both expected to spend at least six figures on an ad blitz starting in two weeks, the strategist explained. During the primary season, Web3 Forward backed Democrats running for Congress, while Crypto Innovation supported Republicans, according to Federal Election Commission records. The spending by the crypto PACs will add to a flurry of cash flowing in what are expected to be the most expensive midterm elections ever. Former Trump White House communications director and SkyBridge Capital founder Anthony Scaramucci donated $100,000 to Crypto Innovation in March, according to an FEC filing.
