Ruzwana Bashir Is Quietly Connecting the Tech World
  + stars: | 2023-11-16 | by ( ) www.businessinsider.com   time to read: +18 min
Story by Melia RussellPhotography by Lelanie FosterRuzwana Bashir is ransacking her kitchen cabinet for just the right tea. Bashir wears an Erdem floral-printed bra top, Erdem skirt, Giuseppe Zanotti shoes, Old Jewelry earrings along with her own bracelet and ring. "Part of building a business was going out and sharing what you were doing with the world," Bashir says. For years Bashir's startup had been building muscle around these capabilities; now it had an eager audience. Eating at acclaimed restaurants is fine, but Bashir prefers the more-intimate affairs at tech executives' homes because, she says, "you can stay longer."

When David Holmes arrived at rehearsal to perfect a fight scene for the penultimate “Harry Potter” film, he was strapped into a harness that was supposed to send him flying backward. But Holmes was jerked back too fast, hitting a wall and breaking his neck, leaving him paralyzed from the chest down. His career as a stunt performer was over, at age 25. He had portrayed Daniel Radcliffe’s title character and others, including Hermione Granger, Ron Weasley, Draco Malfoy and Neville Longbottom, since the franchise’s first installment. After years behind the scenes, Holmes will now tell his story in a new documentary, “David Holmes: The Boy Who Lived,” which is streaming on Max and will air on HBO on Wednesday at 9 p.m. and on Sky Documentaries and NOW in Britain on Saturday.

Truth Social is the alternative social media platform backed by former President Donald Trump, who posts on it several times a day. If the merger does not happen, the DWAC filing warned, TMTG might be unable to "fully develop" Truth Social. Trump returned to X in August, though he has said Truth Social is still his primary social media platform. Trump's presence on Truth Social started as a boon for the company but has now become a crutch. But even the former president's loyalty to Truth Social may not be enough to keep the platform afloat on its own.

In its first fiscal year ending Dec. 2022, TMTG, Truth Social's parent company, lost over $50 million on $1.4 million in sales. Given that origin story, Truth Social has branded itself as a safe haven from "Big Tech censorship," a vision that must be realized for Truth Social to maintain any sort of competitive advantage, according to the filing. The World Health Organization has recorded at least 137 attacks on health facilities in Gaza, which it said resulted in 521 deaths and 686 injuries. Accidents are all too common, and often deadly, says Sam Mayall, a lifelong sailor and former maritime transport deck officer. “A lot of the technologies employed offshore now are the same technologies that have been there for the last 40 or 50 years,” says Mayall. Spotting people is just one part of search and rescue — getting them out of the water rapidly is also critical. Zelim’s “Swift” conveyor belt is adapted to the maritime environment to get people out of the water quickly. The maritime industry is slow to innovate, says Phillips, and the industry-standard rescue winches have been the same for decades.

The House of Representatives will hold a key vote Monday on whether to move forward with a Republican-backed motion to impeach Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas. The vote comes as the House scrambles to negotiate a new budget resolution to avoid a government shutdown. On Monday, House lawmakers are expected to vote on a Democratic procedural effort to derail the Mayorkas impeachment. But the House vote comes amid a separate internal debate among Republicans over whether to move forward with the impeachment of a much bigger target: President Joe Biden.

But by the time Tharu was growing up in the 1970s, the tiger population had dwindled to just 20% of its peak. As an adult, he became involved in forest conservation and was committed to protecting their habitat. Similarly, the creation of artificial watering holes has also helped to disperse the tiger population and direct animals away from local communities. “It is crucial to prioritize community development, to ensure that communities become advocates for tiger conservation,” Paudel adds. Even as human-animal conflicts increase, Tharu says the local communities are happy to see the tiger population flourish.
