Where Are the Country’s Hottest Rental Markets?

What are the hottest rental markets in New York these days? The answers may come as a surprise: According to a new national study by RentCafe, as of October, Queens, N.Y., had the highest level of renter activity among the 150 largest metropolitan markets in the United States. But the real dark horse was Buffalo, which came in at No. With higher interest rates keeping potential buyers in the rental market across the country, rental activity and competition have ballooned. Queens was found to be the most popular location for renters looking for apartments on RentCafe.com, with 72 percent fewer available listings compared with last October.

FDA officials don't have the legal authority to force manufacturers to recall their products, and instead rely on companies to “voluntarily” do so. The FDA previously stated it recommended the manufacturer recall the eyedrops on Oct. 25. That suggests agency officials may still be finalizing documentation from the inspection that triggered the latest recall. Agency records show FDA didn't conduct any inspections in India during fiscal year 2021, at the height of the pandemic. CVS Health said in a statement that it previously “stopped the sale in-store and online” of all the eyedrops cited by the FDA.

The Senate on Wednesday night passed a stopgap funding bill, punting the GOP's spending fight and the threat of a government shutdown until after the holidays. The funding bill next heads to President Joe Biden's desk for his expected signature. The CR is designed to buy more time for House Republicans to pass appropriations bills and for House and Senate negotiators to reach a deal on funding. The House has passed seven of the twelve annual appropriations bills that fund the government for a full fiscal year, while the Senate has passed three. Johnson and his leadership team sent House lawmakers home for the Thanksgiving holiday early on Wednesday after two appropriations bills ran into trouble.

While many experts don't see inflation getting back to normal just yet, it could in a year or two. Consumer price inflation has been mostly slowing this year. Some experts see inflation as measured by the Consumer Price Index being around 2% — the Fed's target year-over-year rate of price growth — by some time in 2024. Advertisement"We foresee headline and core CPI inflation around 2.2% y/y in Q4 2024," Daco said in his commentary. Goldman Sachs forecasts that measure is expected to cool off and see a 2.4% year-over-year increase in December 2024.

CNN —Space is full of extreme phenomena, but the “Tasmanian devil” may be one of the weirdest and rarest cosmic events ever observed. Astronomers dubbed the celestial object the “Tasmanian devil,” and they observed it exploding repeatedly following its initial detection in September 2022. But the Tasmanian devil is revealing more questions than answers with its unexpected behavior. While LFBOTs are unusual events, the Tasmanian devil is even stranger, causing astronomers to question the processes behind the repetitive explosions. We’d never seen that, period, in astronomy.”To better understand the quick luminosity changes occurring in the Tasmanian devil, Ho and her colleagues reached out to other researchers to compare observations from multiple telescopes.

(Photo by Jabin Botsford/The Washington Post via Getty Images)Republican Rep. George Santos of New York said Thursday he will not seek reelection in 2024 in the wake of a damning House Ethics report that found "substantial evidence" of campaign fraud and other violations by the embattled congressman. Santos "blatantly stole from his campaign" and "sought to fraudulently exploit every aspect of his House candidacy for his own personal financial profit," according to the report from the investigative body of the House Ethics Committee. The full ethics panel, led by Republican Rep. Michael Guest of Mississippi, unanimously adopted the report and voted to refer its findings to the Department of Justice. The scathing, 56-page ethics report is only the latest blow to Santos, the scandal-plagued freshman lawmaker who is facing a raft of criminal theft and fraud charges in New York federal court. Last month, Santos' former campaign treasurer Nancy Marks pleaded guilty to campaign finance fraud charges related to her work for Santos.

Rep. George Santos, R-N.Y., leaves a House Republican Conference meeting on the speaker of the House discussions in Longworth Building on Tuesday, October 10, 2023. House Republicans who previously opposed efforts to oust GOP Rep. George Santos are now lining up to expel him after a scathing ethics report accused the embattled New York lawmaker of brazen campaign fraud and theft. The report, released Thursday morning by the House Ethics Committee, found that Santos "sought to fraudulently exploit every aspect of his House candidacy for his own personal financial profit." Santos, who was already facing related criminal charges in New York federal court, announced later Thursday that he would not seek reelection in 2024. "I will continue on my mission to serve my constituents up until I am allowed," Santos wrote on X shortly after the report came out.

About 1 in 5 American workers, nearly 30 million people, are bound by noncompete agreements, according to the Federal Trade Commission. Horror stories about companies using noncompete agreements to trap workers in middling jobs or punish them for taking their skills elsewhere for better pay prompted New York legislators to pass a bill last June that would ban noncompete agreements. "But the fact that I had to spend a year fighting off my former employer was just wrong.”A handful of states, including California, already ban noncompete agreements. Other states, including Minnesota and Oklahoma, have laws that void noncompete agreements if a person is laid off. Advocates for the bill argue that striking noncompete agreements will actually be good for innovation.

“No company is too big to ensure that their products do not damage our environment and public health. All New Yorkers have a basic right to clean water, yet PepsiCo’s irresponsible packaging and marketing endanger Buffalo’s water supply, environment, and public health,” James said in a statement. PepsiCo is the single largest identifiable contributor to the plastic waste contaminating the Buffalo River, according to the lawsuit. Microplastics have also been found in fish species that are known to inhabit Lake Erie and the Buffalo River, as well as Buffalo's drinking water supply, according to the lawsuit. The lawsuit alleges that the opposite is happening, and that PepsiCo misled the public about its efforts to combat plastic pollution.

So not only is it okay to tell them you've interviewed before — you should be prepared to. Here are two ways that might go:Someone on your interview panel asks, "You've been here before. [1/112] Nov 13, 2023; Orchard Park, New York, USA; Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen warms up before a game against the Denver Broncos at Highmark Stadium. On third-and-10 from the Buffalo 45, Wilson's deep throw for Jerry Jeudy fell incomplete, but Taron Johnson was flagged for contacting Jeudy before the ball got there. However, the Bills were penalized for having 12 men on the field. Ja'Quan McMillian recovered, and Denver scored four plays later on the first of Lutz's four field goals, a 40-yarder. The Bills finally quit making mistakes long enough to get within 9-8 on Allen's 22-yard connection to Dalton Kincaid and a two-point conversion pass to Gabe Davis.

While GroupM always had country-level P&Ls, it previously let its individual agencies — EssenceMediaCom, Wavemaker, MSix&Partners, and Mindshare — be responsible for their own budgets. This move is the latest in Juhl's plan to make these different media agencies follow similar business practices across all of the markets in which GroupM operates. Under Juhl, GroupM centralized media delivery within a unit called Nexus and centralized all of GroupM's data and technology within a unit called Choreograph. Juhl said that despite the push to streamline its business, GroupM's individual agency brands will continue to operate as separate entities rather than a homogenous media group. WPP said last month it will reveal more details about its plans to simplify GroupM at its Capital Markets Day in January.

The Broncos (4-5) have won three straight and four of six since a 70-20 loss at Miami. Lutz made four field goals and Javonte Williams scored on a 3-yard run. Allen’s second interception came in the final minute of the first half, and on the first play from scrimmage after Lutz hit a 49-yard field goal to put Denver up 12-8. Allen fluttered a pass up the left sideline that was easily intercepted by Fabian Moreau, which led to Lutz making a 40-yard field goal to close the half.
