[1/2] Former NFL football player Jim Brown speaks after meeting with U.S. President Donald Trump at the White House in Washington, U.S., October 11, 2018. Brown led the NFL in rushing in eight of his nine seasons and was voted the league's most valuable player four times. "I didn't retire because I was broken down and slow," Brown told Sports Illustrated in 2015. "I was basically a proponent of economic development as a way to equality, social equality," Brown told the Cleveland Plain Dealer in 2013. The NFL this year honored Brown by renaming the league's rushing title the Jim Brown Award.
“It is with profound sadness that I announce the passing of my husband, Jim Brown,” Monique Brown wrote on Instagram. Our hearts are broken…”The sole team Brown played for, the Cleveland Browns, tweeted, “Jim Brown Forever. Jim Brown, led the league in rushing in eight of his nine seasons with the Cleveland Browns and set the all-time record for rushing yards. Brown also made his mark as a civil rights activist, working with inner-city gang members and prison inmates. Jim Brown’s legacy will live on forever,” the NFL tweeted.
This Summer We’re Helping Scientists Track Birds. This data will help scientists understand better how birds are affected by forces like climate change and habitat loss. We’re obviously a little bit biased here, so I’m going to recommend the Merlin Bird ID app. Nearly half of all bird species worldwide are known or suspected to be in decline, and climate change could accelerate this trend. Look up past reports of that species on the eBird Species Map and zoom in on your city.

Yet some former Bang Bang employees said that McCurdy's meticulously curated image as a thoughtful progressive in a rough-and-tumble industry wasn't much more than good PR. At Bang Bang, "they just woke-wash everything," one former employee said. This kind of behavior extended to other Bang Bang employees. Ganser, the Bang Bang manager, also sent Wang a text comparing her behavior to her father's, who was in prison. CNN —Conservators at the Guggenheim Museum in New York have uncovered a small dog hidden beneath the surface of a Pablo Picasso painting. The image of a charming lapdog wearing a red bow was revealed by museum experts during a technical analysis of the Spanish artist’s painting “Le Moulin de la Galette” ahead of an exhibition of his early works. “Le Moulin de la Galette” depicts a lively scene at the titular venue — a famous Parisian dance hall that was painted by other artists including Pierre-Auguste Renoir. Modifying paintings later became part of Picasso’s regular practice, Barten said, adding that “Le Moulin de la Galette” is now considered one of the earliest examples of this. “Le Moulin de la Galette” is the “centerpiece” of the Guggenheim’s show, said Barten, whose team of conservators also restored the artwork’s surface by removing decades of dirt and non-original varnish.
OpenAI CEO Sam Altman spoke to an engaged crowd of about 60 lawmakers at a dinner Monday about the advanced artificial technology his company produces and the challenges of regulating it. The wide-ranging discussion that lasted about two hours came ahead of Altman's first time testifying before Congress at a Senate Judiciary subcommittee on privacy and technology hearing on Tuesday. The dinner discussion comes at a peak moment for AI, which has thoroughly captured Congress' fascination. "There isn't any question where he pulls back on anything," she said, adding that lawmakers had very thoughtful things to ask. Khanna said the question of openness of the model is something he's discussed with Altman before, though not at Monday's dinner.
May 17 (Reuters) - Inter Milan manager Simone Inzaghi said he never doubted that his team could reach the Champions League final as they completed a resounding 3-0 aggregate victory over rivals AC Milan on Tuesday. Inter are third in Serie A and will face Fiorentina in the Coppa Italia final on May 24. Inzaghi basked in the glory of his team's victory over Milan, a fourth successive win over their city rivals. Inzaghi said that Serie A was now the primary focus for his players, who face newly crowned champions Napoli on Sunday. The Champions League final will be played at the Ataturk Olympic Stadium in Istanbul on June 10.
It is the 10th time she has boarded this first-of-its-kind project, known as the cultural center on wheels. "Its main purpose is to try to decentralize and make access to the arts more reachable", said the project's organizer, Anderson Mauricio. Paula Santos, young students, middle-aged commuters, a homeless man, all boarded the day Reuters visited. It couldn't be more beautiful," Paula Santos said. Mamadi Doumbouya for The New York Times Talk What If Instead of Trying to Manage Your Time, You Set It Free? I’m curious to know what you think we do actually owe our jobs, as far as time goes. There’s a distinction between signing up to do a job and signing up to have every second micromanaged. I remember there was a Reddit post of someone who was talking about trying to outsource everything in their life and making it superefficient. He recently interviewed Emma Chamberlain about leaving YouTube, Walter Mosley about a dumber America and Cal Newport about a new way to work.
Blanco said the first thing he and his father-in-law did when they arrived at the detention center was shower. “Some of us just slept on the floor.”With their destinies in limbo, Blanco and his father-in-law waited in the detention center, which the young man said resembled a jail. “Every day there is a list, but what you don’t know is where the list says you’re going,” Blanco said. He said he would wait for the release of his father-in-law – who was still in the detention center – before coming up with a plan on what to do next. But he said two items given to him at the detention center would help him survive: the emergency foil blanket and an orange he decided to save, just in case.
Last week the ReAwaken America Tour, a Christian nationalist roadshow co-founded by the former Trump national security adviser Michael Flynn, rolled up to the Trump National Doral Miami resort. (“Hitler was actually fighting the same people that we’re trying to take down today,” said McKay, not inaccurately.) But as of this writing, the tour’s website still includes McKay and Ward, along with Eric Trump, as featured speakers at an upcoming extravaganza in Las Vegas. ReAwaken America’s association with anti-Semites did not stop Donald Trump from calling into the rally to offer his support. Now he’s become, in addition to an anti-vaccine conspiracy theorist and QAnon adherent, one of the country’s most prominent Christian nationalists.

Just over a week after thousands of television and movie writers took to picket lines, Netflix is feeling the heat. Late Wednesday night, Netflix abruptly said it was canceling a major Manhattan showcase that it was staging for advertisers next week. Instead of an in-person event held at the fabled Paris Theater, which the streaming company leases, Netflix said the presentation would now be virtual. He was scheduled to be honored alongside the “Saturday Night Live” eminence Lorne Michaels. In a statement, Mr. Sarandos explained that he withdrew because the potential demonstrations could overshadow the event.

CNN —Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas has had to explain decades of omissions on his annual financial reports. As a Supreme Court justice, Thomas routinely interprets complex statutes that affect millions of Americans, priding himself on close adherence to the text. It beggars belief that he could repeatedly misinterpret plain statutory requirements and simple instructions on his annual disclosure reports. Supreme Court justices have life tenure. That is why full compliance with financial disclosure laws is so important, and why Thomas’ evasiveness is so wrong.
He did say the time-saving component of the tech is among the things that struck him. I mean, the amount of time it could save you, if you were doing all kinds of things, is unbelievable," Buffett said. OpenAI CEO Sam Altman told CNBC's Julia Boorstin in an interview after being named the No. 1 company on the 2023 CNBC Disruptor list this year that the legal profession is a good example. "That is a pattern we're seeing again and again in many industries, and I'm super excited about it," Altman said.
