On Monday, rocket-warning sirens sounded in several towns in southern Israel, the Israeli military said. Authorities in Gaza said at least 2,750 people had so far been killed by the Israeli strikes, a quarter of them children, and nearly 10,000 wounded. But Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's office said in a statement: "There is currently no truce and humanitarian aid in Gaza in exchange for getting foreigners out." Hamas has told people to ignore Israel's message and residents fear Israeli air strikes in southern Gaza too. In southern Gaza, five members a family were killed in Khan Younis refugee camp.

CNN —The pantheon of great sporting upsets gained another monument on Sunday as Afghanistan roundly defeated England by 69 runs at the ICC Cricket World Cup in Delhi, India. It was an upset of immense proportions – Afghanistan had only ever won one World Cup match in its entire history while England is the defending world champion, still basking in the glow of a golden era that has bestowed mythical status on much of its team. But England sputtered from the very start as some loose bowling allowed Afghanistan to build an impressive platform, putting on more than 100 runs without losing a wicket. Defeating England following the earthquake added another dimension to Afghanistan’s historic victory, one which captain Rashid Khan hoped will give Afghans a “little bit of smile on their faces,” he said, per ESPN Cricinfo. After already losing to New Zealand, this shock defeat leaves England in real danger of crashing out the World Cup in the group stages, giving Saturday’s game against South Africa even more importance.

“Since I am a dermatologist and I post a lot on my clinic account, I thought it would be nice to post a reel on bed bugs,” she told CNN Travel. “I was like, ‘I find that very hard to believe’,” Starkey told CNN Travel. Yet in Belgium, doctors in Antwerp are “sounding the alarm” about the spread of bedbugs from Paris, according to The Brussels Times. Colleen Oakley, a bestselling novelist in Atlanta, told CNN Travel she would “absolutely not travel” to Paris right now based on her “awful” experience with the creepy crawlies in 2006. It sounds silly to have panic attacks over bugs, but they are really invasive critters.

REUTERS/Mohammed Salem Acquire Licensing RightsMOSCOW, Oct 14 (Reuters) - Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Bogdanov may meet Hamas officials in Qatar next week and discuss a possible release of hostages seized by the militant group in its attack on Israel a week ago, Russian state news agency RIA reported on Saturday. Bogdanov told RIA he was heading to Qatar and usually met with Hamas every time he was there. Moreover, in this situation, this (meeting) is useful for resolving practical issues, including the release of hostages," Bogdanov said. Hamas carried out the deadliest attack in Israel's history a week ago, killing more than 1,300 people and taking scores of hostages to Gaza. President Vladimir Putin said on Friday that an expected Israeli ground assault on Gaza would lead to an "absolutely unacceptable" level of civilian casualties.

"There is an electricity crisis, food crisis, water crisis, a crisis of everything," Eyad Abu Mutlaq, 45, said in Khan Younis in south Gaza, a region filling up with thousands of people fleeing the north for fear of an Israeli invasion. The flood of people arriving in south Gaza after Israel told them on Friday to leave an area in the north has stretched resources that were already strained to breaking point. The United Nations has urged Israel to "avert a humanitarian catastrophe" in Gaza, a slither of land with 2.3 million people wedged between Israel, Egypt and the Mediterranean Sea. In its response to the devastating Oct. 7 assault from Gaza by Palestinian militant group Hamas, Israel has imposed a "total blockade" halting food supplies and cutting electricity to Gaza. U.S. President Joe Biden said on Friday he was making it a priority to address the humanitarian crisis in Gaza, working with Israel, Egypt, Jordan, other Arab states and the U.N.

REUTERS/Ahmed Zakot Acquire Licensing RightsAMMAN, Oct 14 (Reuters) - Jordan said on Saturday any move by Israel to impose a new displacement of Palestinians would push the region to the "abyss" of a wider regional conflict. Israel's push to move the entire population to leave their homes was a "red line" that Arabs would confront, Safadi said. "This will bring the region into the hell of war ... we have to end this madness," he added. The war's continuation also threatened to lead to its spread on other fronts, Safadi said, adding that "violence would breed more violence and destruction". Safadi said the king had also emphasised Jordan's refusal to accept the displacement of Palestinians from their land.

The actions and rhetoric by Hamas militants and Israel in the past few days is "extremely alarming, unacceptable," Griffiths said. Even wars have rules, and these rules must be upheld, at all times, and by all sides, he said.
