In Florida, Trump’s attorneys told Judge Aileen Cannon his Mar-a-Lago classified documents case should wait until after the 2024 election. But both hearings could have a significant impact on when – or whether – Trump will face trial in each of those two cases. The only case that appears set: Trump’s New York criminal trial will begin March 25, which Trump’s attorneys said was a “firm” date in court Friday. Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis attends a hearing on the Georgia election interference case on Friday in Atlanta. When Trump’s attorneys argued for the hearing, Cannon pushed them to describe how they could narrow its scope and asked them to lay out specifically what a hearing would examine.

The maximalist martinis encapsulate the "loud luxury." Loud luxury, in contrast to quiet luxury, is about spending a lot and owning it. "Call it loud luxury," she wrote. Loud luxury, in contrast, isn't afraid to show off. It's not necessarily the logo that makes something loud luxury, but anything that stands out and signals "this is expensive."

To work with North Korea, Putin has contravened UN Security Council resolutions he himself signed onto. "If Russia failed to achieve success in Ukraine, meaning it got pushed out of Ukraine, is Putin going to survive physically?" Team owners will meet at the annual league meeting in March to discuss private equity. The investment ownership model is favored in the NBA, MLB and NHL— but not in the NFL. So, what will a rule change mean for institutional investors and their Wall Street brokers, as well as owners and sports fans? Experts also think NFL team owners' "wealth would increase drastically," said Rotthoff— due to the considerable profits they've already made from team valuations in the past decade. Wall Street investment banks could also benefit in their role as advisors to wealthy investors and sports teams, including helping to connect buyers with sellers.

Impractical countertops aren't versatile in the long run. chuckcollier/Getty ImagesIf you're renovating your kitchen, I recommend selecting countertops that are neutral and conventional to most designs. Though it's tempting to design your space to match current trends, going with neutral big-ticket items, like a countertop, will allow you the flexibility to change your decor in the future. I'd especially avoid materials like butcher block, wood, concrete, and tile because they have a trendy, distinct look and may require special maintenance. Instead, use those materials in a portion of your kitchen, like in a separate bar area, to give you the look you want without committing 100% to the trend.

In the midst of an exceptionally warm winter, resorts like Campo Felice have a major problem: there’s no snow. And a long-running drought means there isn’t enough water to make the amount of artificial snow needed to paint its slopes white. And with a lack of rain and record-breaking heatwaves, the lakes that normally provide water for artificial snow have run dry. Across all of Italy’s ski resorts, nearly 90% use artificial snow to some degree, according to Carlo Carmagnola, a snow expert with Météo France who studies the impact of climate change on ski resorts. These changes have been hard not just on the Lallini brothers, but their employees, which usually number 250 in the ski season.

Without ever clicking a mouse or touching a screen, Mark selected this command on his computer simply using signals from his brain. “I figured I had two choices: I could wallow in self-pity, or I could pick myself up by the bootstraps and do what I could to help,” Mark said. Synchron’s brain implant, the one Mark has, is called a Stentrode and consists of a stent with electrode sensors that can detect electrical brain activity. That external transmitter sits right above the internal transmitter and carries the signal from Mark’s brain to the computer almost instantaneously. Google CEO Sundar Pichai speaks in conversation with Emily Chang during the APEC CEO Summit at Moscone West on November 16, 2023 in San Francisco, California. In a memo Tuesday evening, Google CEO Sundar Pichai addressed the company’s artificial intelligence mistakes, which led to Google taking its Gemini image-generation feature offline for further testing. Google introduced the image generator earlier this month through Gemini, the company’s main group of AI models. Over the past week, users discovered historical inaccuracies that went viral online, and the company pulled the feature last week, saying it would re-launch it in the coming weeks. This has to be our approach for all our products, including our emerging AI products.”Read the full text of the memo here:

CNN —For Michael Cargill, the thorny dispute over bump stocks is only partly about the controversial devices themselves. Responding to grisly crimes in which machine guns were used to rob banks or ambush police, lawmakers stepped in and initially required owners to register the weapons. The agency estimated that as many as 520,000 bump stocks were sold between 2010 and 2018. Bump stocks replace a semi-automatic rifle’s regular stock, the part of a gun that rests against the shoulder. “We’ll never forget the sound of the machine gun firing into the crowd that night,” Marano said.

With markets on edge over the direction of inflation, a report Thursday that often flies under the economic radar is likely to take on more importance. The Commerce Department's measure of personal consumption expenditures prices could add to evidence that inflation is stickier than some economists and policymakers had thought. Two-year inflation breakevens, or the difference between Treasury yields and Treasury Inflation-Protected Securities, have surged in recent days. "But I think the labor market is a lot more fragile than people think. A report Wednesday confirmed that economic growth was solid to close out 2023, with fourth-quarter GDP accelerating at a 3.2% annualized pace adjusted for seasonal factors and inflation.
