Antimicrobial resistance happens when pathogens like bacteria and fungi develop the ability to evade the medications used to kill them. A death attributable to antimicrobial resistance was directly caused by it, while a death associated with AMR may have another cause that was exacerbated by the antimicrobial resistance. For this combination – the antibiotic methicillin and the bacteria S. aureus – the number of attributable deaths nearly doubled from 57,200 in 1990 to 130,000 in 2021. The researchers estimated that, in 2050, the number of global deaths attributable to antimicrobial resistance could reach 1.9 million, and those associated with antimicrobial resistance could reach 8.2 million. Strathdee saw firsthand the effects that antimicrobial resistance can have on health when her husband nearly died from a superbug infection.

watch nowDrugmakers are betting that delivering radiation directly to tumors will become the next big cancer breakthrough. That can allow the treatment to deliver radiation to cancer cells and spare the rest of the body from the level of damage that comes with many cancer drugs. For Pluvicto, patients come in once every six weeks for up to six treatments. One opportunity Bristol Myers Squibb sees is combining radiopharmaceuticals with existing cancer drugs like immunotherapy, said Robert Plenge, Bristol's chief research officer. If you're looking to build wealth, traditional forms of investment aren't going to get you there — at least according to young, rich people. For younger wealthy investors, though, stocks come in behind seven other types of investments, including real estate, cryptocurrency, private equity and direct investment into companies. Faster delivery is prompting more and more people to turn to Amazon to buy paper towels and other everyday items. The growing prevalence of one- and same-day delivery has made Amazon a much more convenient to place to shop for everyday essentials. "If people buy everyday essentials on Amazon, they're more likely to buy other products too," said Jeff Marks, the Club's director of portfolio analysis. This added convenience in ordering everyday essentials from Amazon comes at a challenging time for physical retailers known for selling those same products.
