But it comes with some pitfalls: In school, when my teacher called on Michael, six kids would answer. And it's my last name, Arkin, that always elicits the question, "Are you related to him?" As far back as I can remember, long before 23andMe could verify if we were or weren't related (were weren't), nearly everyone has asked that question or, better yet, "Are you one of the Arkins?" When I handed my credit card to the saleswoman, she looked at the name and asked the usual question. I'm a native New Yorker who attended Oxford for my undergraduate studies in the early 2000s. I didn't seriously expect to meet, date, kiss, or marry Prince William, though I'm confident my mother hoped I might. I'd started Oxford late — after a few semesters in a liberal arts college in the US — so I was a couple of years older than him when we met. It sounds dramatic to relocate your life on a whim, but I'd stopped trusting in stability after my mother died. It's 16 years later, and I'm still living in London with my now-husband, Will, and I have zero regrets.

After the first rounds of return-to-office mandates in 2023, many companies are now introducing more punitive measures to make their employees come to the office — actively tracking attendance, micromanaging employees' time, and blocking remote workers from bonuses and career progression. AdvertisementThis week, Dell informed staff that most of its workers will have to come into the office an average of three days a week. Mike Blake/ReutersIn November, Amazon also added a no-promotions policy for perennial remote workers. For example, women — who tend to take on more responsibility for the family and therefore benefit more from flexible remote work policies — will take a bigger hit from punitive policies, Cooper said. The Equal Employment Opportunity Commission recorded a 16% increase in mental health disability complaints between 2021 and 2022 from employees who want remote work allowances, The Hill reported.

JERUSALEM (AP) — Israel has imposed financial restrictions on the main U.N. agency providing aid in the Gaza Strip, a measure which prevented a shipment of food for 1.1 million Palestinians from reaching the war-battered enclave, the agency's director said Friday. The U.N. food agency defines a famine as when 30% of children are malnourished, one-fifth of households face acute food shortages and two of every 10,000 people are dying from hunger or malnutrition. UNRWA, which serves about 6 million Palestinians whose families were displaced during the war surrounding Israel's creation in 1948, denies the charges. UNWRA is the main provider of aid to Palestinians in Gaza, but Israeli bombardment and combat between Israel and Hamas has made much of the territory too dangerous for aid convoys to cross. Israel alleged last month that 12 employees of the aid agency participated in the Oct. 7 Hamas attacks in southern Israel.

At age 15, I developed chronic fatigue syndrome, a condition that causes extreme exhaustion, pain, cognitive issues, and more. Living with limited energy for so long has taught me a thing or two about managing fatigue. Choose rest activities that allow you to recoup some of the energy you've used. In each meal the largest food group should be vegetables, and leafy greens like kale or spinach are best for supporting your cognitive energy. I've lived nearly half my life with chronic fatigue syndrome, and I've realized that while it's important to protect your energy, don't hoard it.
