In June's survey, commercial real estate held the top spot. Related storiesMeanwhile, BofA's survey indicates that fund managers are still keeping their eyes on commercial real estate, a sector that has wobbled under the weight of high interest rates. Between tighter monetary policy and a significant pullback in office demand, worry has mounted regarding whether commercial real estate entities can pay off their debt.

Investors are flocking to small-cap stocks right now, driving this segment of the market to new highs this week. He also noted that the Russell 2000 is outperforming the S & P 500 by the widest margin since November 2021. But according to him, one group of small-cap stocks could do well if rates were to stay higher for longer: regional banks. However, Turnquist cautioned that small-cap growth stocks would find the outlook tougher than small-cap value stocks, as they are more sensitive to economic health. Some of the proposals squarely take aim at the country's private equity sector, which, despite Britain's exit from the European Union, has maintained its stature as the regional hub for deal-making. "Private equity is the only industry where performance-related pay is treated as capital gains," the manifesto says. In practice, that would mean taxing carried interest, or the profits paid to private equity and hedge fund managers, as income. Labour's ascent comes at a precarious time for the private equity sector more broadly. "London has been the pulpit for financial services, private equity and investors in Europe for a long time," said Mark Veldon, a private equity partner at financial advisory and global consulting firm AlixPartners.

After First Horizon posted an earnings miss Wednesday morning, the regional bank's CEO Bryan Jordan told CNBC's Jim Cramer there is stiff competition in the industry that could continue for the rest of the year. It tends to be very aggressive for money market and CD deposit rates," Jordan said. "We see a lot of specials in the marketplace, and what we experienced this quarter was a little bit of a shift in what we'd seen in previous quarters." Jordan continued, saying this competition "drove a little bit of an increase in costs," as First Horizon matched rates for customers, raising the cost of deposits. "I think when those two questions get resolved, the economy ought to star to accelerate, loan demand ought to pick up a little bit," he said.

CNN —Russian-American journalist Masha Gessen was sentenced to eight years in prison by a Moscow court Monday for criticizing the Russian military, becoming the latest target of a crackdown on critics of the Kremlin. Gessen was convicted in absentia on charges of disseminating “false information” about the Russian armed forces, according to the Moscow court statement. My statements are based on data collected during my journalistic work,” Gessen said, highlighting a series of interviews they conducted in Bucha, Irpin, Kyiv, and Kryvyi Rih in 2022, as well as their previous journalistic work in Chechnya. While the Russian military has conducted its invasion, the Kremlin has sought to stifle criticism of its strategy at home. “I am outside the Russian Federation, so the so-called court can ‘consider’ my case, ‘arrest,’ and ‘sentence’ me only in absentia.

Elysian unveils fully electric 90-passenger plane

“You shouldn’t assume that an electric plane is going to look like the (most successful) planes of today,” de Vries says, adding that a common misconception is that electric planes should essentially be electrified versions of the lightest regional turboprops. What you end up with is a plane that in weight proportions, for example, looks much more like old 1960s jets. Israeli-founded Eviation has flight-tested its plane, called Alice – a fully electric nine-passenger commuter plane with a range of 250 nautical miles that the company aims to put into service in 2027. “There are over 5,000 aircraft in service today in the E9X’s size category of 70 to 100 seats,” he says. If Elysian can surmount the technology and infrastructure challenges, he adds, it will then face the commercial challenge of entering a fiercely competitive market.
