In a quest to find the first complete head, researchers conducted an analysis of Arthropleura fossils belonging to two juvenile individuals uncovered in the 1970s in France. Researchers studied scans of two Arthropleura fossils trapped in stone. Both fossilized insects still had most of their legs, and one of them had a complete head, including antennae, eyes, mandibles and its feeding apparatus — the first Arthropleura head ever documented, Lhéritier said. Researchers believe the two Arthropleura fossils belonged to juveniles because they reach just 0.9 inch (25 millimeters) and 1.5 inches (40 millimeters) long. But other fossils that preserve additional aspects of the arthropod’s body, including the head of an adult, will need to be found.

Sam Altman has taken a more prominent role at OpenAI as several top leaders have left the company. Altman risks spreading himself too thin, three management experts told BI. Now, as Altman leads OpenAI toward a possible for-profit future, some corporate management experts warn that the CEO could stretch himself too thin — taking on too many job functions. Altman and a spokesperson for OpenAI didn't respond to requests for comment from Business Insider. It's possible that Altman could take on the CTO role on a temporary basis, Sonnenfeld said, "but it's not likely that he can do this very long."

Black conservative radio host Shelley Wynter drew outrage from many when he broke down the Black male electorate in the U.S. into “house African Americans and field African Americans” during an appearance Wednesday on CNN. “This race is between house African Americans and field African Americans, and field African Americans are voting for [Donald] Trump.”During enslavement in the U.S., “house slaves” worked in the main house and generally performed indoor tasks. At the same time, Wynter’s comments highlighted the intensity surrounding the Black male vote and how influential it may be in November. “It just does a disservice to all of us, both as voters and as Black Americans. “There’s nothing that compares to enslavement in the United States or for Black Americans,” he said.

The North Carolina judge who presided over the 1996 murder trial over the killing Michael Jordan’s father petitioned the state’s parole commission to release one of the men convicted in the case. Details about Weeks’ petition were not available as parole commission hearings in North Carolina are confidential and not open to the public. Prior to the murder in 1993, James Jordan was sleeping in his red Lexus along a North Carolina highway when he was shot. Demery pleaded guilty to first-degree murder, armed robbery and conspiracy to commit robbery, and like Green, received a life sentence. Katsoudas says AI adoption should start on the day-to-day level and be focused on skills training. What AI transformations are taking place at Cisco and among your workforce? From a technology perspective, at Cisco there have always been three different motions that are going on. As leaders, we're going to have a level of workforce planning insights that we've never had before because AI is going to help us with this. In technology roles, it was kind of easy because you could just send out a quick coding exercise and understand who had the capabilities.

Lahore, Pakistan AP —Pakistani police fired tear gas and charged at student protesters who ransacked a college building Thursday, as anger spread over an alleged on-campus rape, prompting the government to shut schools, colleges and universities for two days. Tensions have been high on college campuses since reports of the alleged rape in the eastern city of Lahore spread on social media, and protests have broken out in four cities. Thursday’s violence started when hundreds of students demonstrated outside a campus in the city of Rawalpindi in Punjab province. They also arrested a man who is accused of spreading misinformation on social media about the alleged rape and inciting students to violence. But Punjab police on Thursday urged people to share any information about the alleged rape.

As a global leader in digital payments, Visa has 4.2 billion credit and payment cards in circulation across more than 200 countries. Through its advanced transaction processing network, VisaNet, the company facilitates payment authorization, clearing, and settlement, and it is one of the most remarkable and consistent growth stories around — along with fellow payment processing company Mastercard. The following chart illustrates its remarkably consistent growth since the pandemic plunge (which naturally suspended considerable economic activity). While a 30 P/E is higher than the market's, the S & P trades closer to 26 times earnings; Visa should trade at a premium. The ability for consumer spending growth to continue apace is limited, so presumably, topline growth will slow somewhat.

To be sure, a Bloomberg report earlier Tuesday that the U.S. government was considering a cap on AI chip exports to certain Persian Gulf nations may also have dampened industry sentiment. Investors are sensitive to any updates on AI chip demand, given the dramatic rise in the stocks of Nvidia, AMD, Broadcom and others over the past two years. Bottom line Artificial intelligence is alive and well, according to TSMC, which has emerged as the most valuable window into AI demand other than Nvidia itself. With Big Tech earnings in the coming weeks, it's particularly nice to see the AI chip trade stabilize after the ASML debacle. Tobacco product use among middle and high school students has dropped to a 25-year low, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the U.S. Food and Drug Administration announced Thursday. Female students reported the biggest decline in use across the board, and Hispanic students also reported a drop in use of any tobacco product. Evidence-based strategies, including price increases, media campaigns and smoke-free policies, are likely part of what caused tobacco product use to drop, according to the agencies. E-cigarettes continue to be the most used among students who reported tobacco product use, at 5.9%, but nicotine pouches are now the second-most commonly used tobacco product, at 1.8%, followed by cigarettes at 1.4%. Third Point's Daniel Loeb believes the odds are rising that former President Donald Trump will win the U.S. presidency this November over Vice President Kamala Harris and the influential hedge fund manager is increasing positions that would benefit under a Republican administration and Congress. But Loeb in his quarterly missive said he was increasing both "stock and option purchases" to bet on the Trump win scenario. Loeb is not alone on Wall Street in making those bets with JPMorgan most recently highlighting gains in bank stocks and the U.S. dollar as signs more investors see a Republican win. The fund gained 4% last quarter, according to the letter, also trailing the market. But he sees the improvement in market breadth that began in the third quarter continuing, especially under a Republican administration.
