Last year, Falconi successfully petitioned the Nevada Supreme Court, which ruled that the public has a constitutional right to access Family Court cases. While the court is scheduled to hold evidentiary hearings next week, a decision from the court on media access could come at any time. If a judge does agree to unseal the case, it could have major ripple effects for Nevada family courts. Some have argued that sealing family court cases helps protect the privacy of vulnerable people. Falconi is not working with the media coalition, but said he hopes the national media attention on the Murdoch case will tangentially help his mission.

AdvertisementCharter will end up paying WBD for the right to give away Max with ads (as well as Discovery+, WBD's much-less-popular streamer), which sells for $10 a month. So WBD isn't exactly giving Max away. But by making a version of Max free to millions of Charter subscribers, WBD is basically inviting existing Charter/Max subscribers to trade down. But this time around, LightShed analyst Rich Greenfield calls the deal a "victory" for WBD, given the weakened position of its cable channels. Cooling labor data could still lead the Fed to cut rates by 50 basis points, Goldman Sachs' David Solomon says. "I think the percentage chance is in the low 30s," Solomon said of a 50 basis point cut. The slightly hotter August CPI reading tilted the odds further in favor of a 25 basis point cut. AdvertisementIt wasn't long ago that Goldman Sachs CEO David Solomon forecasted there could be no rate cuts from the Federal Reserve this year. Now, even as the latest inflation data has most investors pricing in a 25 basis point cut in September, Solomon says a larger cut could still be in the cards.

US District Judge Lewis Kaplan scheduled the hearing after Ryan Salame, a former executive of Alameda Research and FTX Digital Markets, tried to withdraw his guilty plea. Salame said prosecutors broke a promise to him by later indicting his romantic partner, Michelle Bond — a claim that prosecutors vigorously disputed. Instead, Kaplan grilled Salame under oath for over 30 minutes in his Manhattan courtroom Thursday morning, accusing him of misrepresenting the plea negotiations. That left Kaplan in a bind: Either Salame lied in his plea hearing, throwing the plea into doubt. Bond would not be pursued if I plead guilty," Salame said.

CNN —A judge on Thursday threw out three charges in the sweeping Georgia election subversion case, including two charges that former President Donald Trump faces. In a separate ruling, Fulton County Judge Scott McAfee also upheld the marquee racketeering charge in the case, which Trump is also facing. In the ruling, McAfee also threw out a separate count of filing false documents, which Trump was charged with. Trump was only named in two of the three charges that McAfee threw out Thursday. The awkward ruling from McAfee comes as he has only partial jurisdiction over the 2020 election meddling case.

New York CNN —The Republican nominee for president went on live TV and presented an unhinged, debunked Facebook rumor as fact. Scrolling on Facebook or X, it’s hard not to see some of that chaos creeping into the mainstream. Of course, it was a fake image — the same kind of obvious AI slop that has overrun Facebook and X. Either Trump didn’t know the image was fake, or he didn’t mind lying to his followers and perpetuating the fake endorsement.
