He hopes to create an army of insect-machine search and rescue workers. Researchers in Australia are fusing control backpacks onto beetles and cockroaches to direct their movements. Fitzgerald says cyborg search and rescue beetles or cockroaches might be able to help in disaster situations by finding and reporting the location of survivors and delivering lifesaving drugs to them before human rescuers can get there. Fitzgerald says that although the work might seem futuristic now, in a few decades, cyborg insects could be saving lives. University of Queensland student Lachlan Fitzgerald hopes to one day use the insect-machine hybrids as search and rescue workers.

The effort to locate a Pennsylvania grandmother who appears to have fallen through a sinkhole into a decades-old mine shaft while searching for her cat has likely shifted from a rescue to recovery mission, authorities said Wednesday. Growth in pockets from real estate to manufacturing has improved since Beijing began announcing stimulus measures in late September. China's latest efforts to kickstart growth haven't had a broad impact yet, data and company earnings show, indicating the world's second-largest economy won't be roaring back soon. The ramp-up in stimulus measures is aimed at reaching this year's official target of around 5%, and a similar pace next year — while preventing financial instability, Gabriel Wildau, managing director at Teneo, said in a note Monday. "Looking ahead, our sources expect that stimulus in 2025 will trickle out incrementally and in a data-dependent fashion," Wildau said. "Beijing's stimulus measures encouraged firms to come off the sidelines this month," the report said.

GoodRx said people without insurance can save an average of $250 monthly, or $3,000 annually, using its coupons for weight loss drugs. The federal Medicare plan also doesn't cover weight loss treatments unless they are approved and prescribed for another health condition. But the Biden administration in November proposed a rule that would allow Medicare and Medicaid to cover weight loss drugs for patients with obesity.

AdvertisementBaby boomers were hit the hardest by inflation in 2023, driven by rising healthcare costs. Healthcare costs outpaced overall inflation, and they make up a greater share of boomers' budgets compared to younger Americans. The analysis found that mounting healthcare costs, which have outpaced broader inflation, particularly weighed on baby boomers, who are aged 60 to 78. Simultaneously, older Americans did not spend as much on things like gas, where costs deflated. Over 2,000 older Americans told BI their biggest regrets over the last few months in a voluntary, informal survey.

That's why it's important to follow a decluttering routine, including a nightly family clean-up. With a family of five, our mid-century house often feels cramped and cluttered. Over the years, I've noticed the more closely I follow a decluttering regimen, our home feels roomier and more presentable. Although I don't have a natural gift for organizing, following these simple steps keeps our house from becoming an untidy wasteland. Reorganizing spaces can help give a different perspectiveSometimes, the most straightforward step to decluttering is reorganizing a space that has received too much love lately.

CNN —House Republicans voted on Thursday to block a Democrat-led effort to release a long-awaited Ethics Committee report on allegations against former GOP Rep. Matt Gaetz of Florida. The House took a step to effectively shut down a resolution from Democrats that would have required the public release of the report. Last month, before Gaetz withdrew, Republicans on the House Ethics Committee voted behind closed doors – and against the will of Democrats on the panel – not to release the results of the investigation at that time. After the vote, Johnson called the ethics report a “moot point” given that Gaetz is no longer a member of Congress. After the first vote, the House voted on a second, similar Democrat-led resolution seeking to compel the release of the report.

"We believe it is key to remain invested and view any potential corrections as technical and temporary opportunities to get into the market," Julius Baer International's Portfolio Manager Aneka Beneby said. Against this backdrop, she observes a "come back" in the traditional 60/40 portfolio, where 60% of funds are invested in equities and the remaining 40% is allocated to fixed income. Overweight equities Looking ahead, Beneby is overweight on equities and prefers the asset class to fixed income given relatively high inflation levels. Her comments come as the consumer price index — a key metric measuring inflation levels — rose 2.6% in the U.S. in October, versus a year ago. Fixed income Unlike U.S. equity markets which have had a stellar rise, fixed income has been under pressure no thanks to high levels of volatility.
