In this regard, the ratings of top Wall Street analysts and their investment theses can provide useful insights and help us make the right decisions. Bearing that in mind, here are three stocks favored by the Street's top pros, according to TipRanks, a platform that ranks analysts based on their past performance. The company recently reported its June sales and announced an increase in its membership fee. He estimates a potential benefit of nearly 3% to the company's earnings per share over each of the next two years. Even after the stock's impressive year-to-date rally, Goldman Sachs analyst Toshiya Hari thinks that it has more room to run.

Buffett believes buybacks are beneficial to shareholders for one simple reason: You don't need to spend a dime to increase your percentage of shares held. "Through that simple act, we increase your share of the many controlled and non-controlled businesses Berkshire owns," Buffett said in his 2021 annual letter. The 93-year-old legendary investor believes that it would be "value-destroying" if he overpaid for Berkshire shares. "If you're repurchasing shares above a rationally calculated intrinsic value, you are harming your shareholders, just as if you issue shares beneath that figure, you are harming your shareholders," Buffett once said in 1996. The Wall Street firm projected that Berkshire repurchased almost $2.5 billion worth of stock in the second quarter.

S&P 500 futures inched up Sunday night after the broad market index suffered its worst weekly losses since April last week as investors rotated out of megacap technology stocks for smaller names. Since Biden's disastrous debate performance in June, many analysts were seeing an increasing likelihood of a win by former President Donald Trump in November. There may be a small unwinding of the Trump trade on Monday as Vice President Harris is perceived to have a slightly better chance of winning," Hatfield said. Traders have been pricing in nearly a 93% likelihood of the Federal Reserve cutting interest rates during its September meeting. During the previous trading week, the S&P 500 and Nasdaq Composite fell nearly 2% and 3.7%, respectively, marking their biggest weekly losses since April.

At the first Democratic presidential debate in 2019, Kamala Harris, then a senator from California, unleashed a scathing critique of the Trump economy. The future vice president billed President Donald J. Trump’s tax cuts as a giveaway to the rich, argued that the booming stock market was leaving the middle class behind and warned that his reckless trade agenda was hurting farmers in the heartland. “Frankly, this economy is not working for working people,” Ms. Harris said. “For too long the rules have been written in the favor of the people who have the most and not in favor of the people who work the most.”As Ms. Harris prepares to potentially replace President Biden atop the Democratic ticket, she now faces the challenge of articulating her own vision for steering a U.S. economy that is still grappling with inflation while drawing sharp distinctions with Mr. Trump, who has promised more tax cuts and tariffs.

He's steering clear of Big Tech stocks, and for now he's only bullish on "dull, boring, and predictable" names. Tech stocks now account for highest portion of the S&P 500 since the early 2000s, according to an analysis from Société Générale. "There is an awful lot of people in the financial markets who just don't understand that zero interest rates and ultra-low interest rates are not normal," Blain added. Take activist hedge funds, which buy up a percentage of a company's stock (or an asset) and then use their weight to push for operational changes. Or there would be a fun, splashy war between the hedge fund and the C-suite. Hedge funds rely on outperforming the market when times are hard and it's easier to find pockets of outperformance and exploit them. Of course, hedge funds are having a hard time coming up with a crew because the clients have changed too. But if that suddenly changes, two dozen leading Democratic politicians and operatives told CNN, they can’t realistically see this ending any other way. Still, it’s an idea some Harris backers support, doubting that anyone serious would challenge her, as much chest puffing as there is behind the scenes. I asked a financial planner whether I should take money out of savings if interest rates drop. I haven't felt ready to follow their advice, especially since my high-yield savings account at Ally Bank has been offering 4% to 5% APY on the money in the account. If that happens, it might make sense for me to move money out of my high-yield savings account. I met with certified financial planner Jake Skelhorn, who shared three things I can do with that cash if interest rates drop. "While more volatile year-to-year, stock market returns have averaged approximately 10%, which is about double what you're getting in a high-yield savings account today."

The past week's tumultuous stock market action harkened back to the dark days of 2000 as the dot-com bubble was bursting, according to economist and strategist David Rosenberg. With tech leaders sagging and investors heading for cover, the widely followed market bear sees similarities between two eras that showed overheated investor sentiment and an overvalued market. "The massive daily swings reflect a manic market becoming unglued," the head of Rosenberg Research wrote in his daily market note Friday. "The action is highly reminiscent of what happened in the immediate aftermath of the Nasdaq rolling off the bubble highs in March 2000." Alfred E. A massive IT outage on Friday caused widespread disruption across different sectors worldwide. An expert said the outage, linked to a CrowdStrike update, mirrors Y2K fears that never came true. Air travel, banks, and 911 lines are among some of the many services affected by the global outage.
