The Kansas City Chiefs' most important catch happened after Sunday's win against the Carolina Panthers, when defensive lineman Tershawn Wharton saved a young fan who fell from the stands. The moment Wharton caught the child was captured on video. Wharton told The Pat McAfee Show that it was a "natural reaction" to catch the child. The video shows Wharton, 26, lift the child back up into the stands. He said he hopes to connect with the child and invite him to another Chiefs game.

The personal consumption expenditures price index, a broad measure that the Fed prefers as its inflation gauge, increased 0.2% on the month and showed a 12-month inflation rate of 2.3%. Both were in line with the Dow Jones consensus forecast, though the annual rate was higher than the 2.1% level in September. The annual rate was 0.1 percentage point above the prior month. Odds of a quarter percentage point reduction in the central bank’s key borrowing rate were at 66% Wednesday morning, according to the CME Group’s FedWatch measure. The release follows consecutive rate cuts by the Fed in September and November totaling three quarters of a percentage point.

Mortgage rates dropped last week, and homebuyers jumped off the fence. They drove total mortgage demand up 6.3% compared with the previous week, according to the Mortgage Bankers Association’s seasonally adjusted index. While the drop in rates wasn’t exactly huge, there was a fair amount of pent-up demand among homebuyers. Last year at this time mortgage rates were higher, but falling. The increase in conventional purchase applications helped push the average purchase loan size to $439,200, its highest level in almost a month,” Joel Kan, an MBA economist, said in a release.

Three American citizens who had been detained in China were released, a State Department spokesperson said Wednesday. Li, 70, who is from Long Island, New York, was detained in 2016 and sentenced to 10 years in 2018 on espionage charges his family says are baseless. The announcement on Wednesday follows the surprise release in September of American pastor David Lin, whom like Li and Swidan the U.S. had classified as wrongfully detained. He had been jailed in China since 2006 after being sentenced to life in prison on charges of contract fraud. Other families who appeared at the hearing are still waiting for the return of loved ones detained in China, including Nelson Wells Jr. and Dawn Hunt.

President-elect Donald Trump said he intends to nominate Dr. Jay Bhattacharya, a Stanford University professor known for his criticism of Covid lockdowns, to serve as the next director of the National Institutes of Health. In a statement Tuesday, Trump said, "Dr. Bhattacharya will work in cooperation with Robert F. Kennedy Jr. to direct the Nation's Medical Research, and to make important discoveries that will improve Health and save lives." Bhattacharya gained national attention in October 2020, when he co-wrote the "Great Barrington Declaration," an open letter calling on public health officials to roll back Covid lockdowns. Several days after the Great Barrington Declaration came out, 80 researchers from the fields of public health, epidemiology and more published a joint letter in the medical journal The Lancet, calling the idea "a dangerous fallacy." Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, the director general of the World Health Organization, called the proposal unethical.

The most hectic travel days of the year are approaching, with the TSA expecting what may be the busiest Thanksgiving travel period on record. Those flying with food to bring to their Thanksgiving feast should know in advance which holiday favorites are permitted on flights. Frozen goods are permitted on flights, as are ice packs, but they must be frozen solid while going through security checkpoints. TSA also urges travelers to properly store their food to prevent foodborne illness. Here’s a list of Thanksgiving dishes that can fly with travelers as carry-ons and dishes that should be safely stored in checked luggage.

“Frozen liquid items are allowed through the checkpoint as long as they are frozen solid when presented for screening,” a TSA spokesperson confirmed to CNN by email. What to do if your frozen bottle starts to melt? Ultimately, the best advice is to not pack any foods or frozen liquid items into your carry-on luggage that you would be upset to throw away. Some travelers question why someone would bother to freeze a bottle of water before their flight given most airports now have free refilling stations. “While I’ve never personally brought a frozen water bottle through security, there are times when this travel hack makes sense,” he told CNN.

Its limited self-government is derived from Congress and can be rescinded whenever the president and Congress wish. In our society and our culture, and therefore in our politics, there is a growing comfort in the “ends justifies the means” mentality. While richer people are expanding their footprint in the holiday travel mix, lower-paid ones are shrinking theirs: Households making under $50,000 are set to make up just 23% of travelers, down from 28% a year ago, Deloitte found. Indeed, the luxury travel network Virtuoso said it’s seen seasonal bookings surge 37% since last year among its high-end clientele. Some 64% of Americans plan to take more than one trip this holiday season, Deloitte found, up from 57% in 2023. “These travel choices may suggest that people are looking to save money, likely choosing cheaper options to keep their travel costs down,” the researchers wrote. Ted Rossman, senior industry analyst for Bankrate, said there are signs that “inflation continues to strain holiday travelers in a big way.” The consumer finance company found 86% of households making less than $100,000 annually expect to change their holiday travel plans due to cost increases (although a hefty 77% of six-figure earners said the same).

The International Criminal Court’s chief prosecutor asked judges on Wednesday to issue an arrest warrant for the head of Myanmar’s military regime for crimes committed against the country’s Rohingya Muslim minority. From a refugee camp in Bangladesh, the court’s top prosecutor, Karim Khan, said in a statement that he intends to request more warrants for Myanmar’s leaders soon. “In doing so, we will be demonstrating, together with all of our partners, that the Rohingya have not been forgotten. The allegations stem from a counterinsurgency campaign that Myanmar’s military began in August 2017 in response to an insurgent attack. In 2018 judges at the court ruled the prosecutor could look into crimes which were “completed” on the territory of a member state, such as forcible deportation.

China’s foreign ministry said the communications channels with Sweden and other relevant parties were “unobstructed,” when asked about Sweden’s request. Western intelligence officials from multiple countries have said they are confident the Chinese ship caused the cuts to both cables.
