Netflix is helping to kick off the latest earnings season with the streaming giant set to report its third quarter earnings after market close on Thursday. The company's stock price has steadily risen since the beginning of the year. However, this upcoming earnings report may be one of the last times investors receive regular updates on Netflix's membership numbers. "This change is really motivated by wanting to focus on what we see are the key metrics that we think matter most to the business," Netflix co-CEO Gregory Peters said during the company's 2024 first quarter earnings call on April 18. "We'll periodically update when we grow and we hit certain major milestones, we'll announce those.

Dividend stocks could be poised to get their moment in the sun as interest rates fall – and investors only need to take a simple step to boost their long-term returns in these positions. "As rates fall, we might see people looking for longer-term alternatives and, in turn, dividend-paying stocks," he said. For starters, it's a form of dollar-cost averaging into a position, meaning you're buying the stock at regular intervals regardless of the price. "It allows them to reinvest this dividend on a regular scheduled timeframe and have a great opportunity for a larger total return over the long term." Whatever the reason, it might occur to you to try to get a new job opportunity just to leverage it for something better. "For me, the short answer is no," says Amanda Augustine, career expert at TopResume. If you're interested in a job, you apply and get the offer, that's a different situation. In the same way you'd be wasting your time, you'd also be wasting your prospective employer's. "If you're going to put [the job offer] out there," says Augustine, "oftentimes employers will see that as an ultimatum and they will say sayonara."

How to counter a low-ball salary offer
  + stars: | 2024-10-14 | by ( Morgan Smith | ) www.cnbc.com   time to read: +3 min
It's no secret that hiring managers often keep their cards close to their chest during a salary negotiation. Of course, there's always a chance a salary offer falls farther than $10,000 away from your expectations. A low-ball salary offer doesn't always mean a lost cause. "The person you're talking to isn't always the person who decides whether or not you get that higher salary, they're often the person who has to go make the case to someone else," she adds. Candidates who can articulate how the timing of their start date benefits the company's goals have the "best chances" of landing a higher salary, Tolbert adds.

In early 2024, Kelly Diehr and her husband set out to buy their first home in Denver. With no kids, six-figure income and a budget of $600,000, the couple felt like they were in a solid position to afford a single detached home where they could raise a family. However, like many first-time buyers, they were disappointed by what they could afford, as median home prices almost immediately started rising from $599,000 to $639,000 between January and May, according to Realtor.com. And like many first-time buyers, the couple were forced to compromise by stretching their budget far beyond what they originally planned. Such concessions are common in new developments, where developers often need to sell units quickly — even in a competitive market like Denver.
