Earlier Tuesday, DeSantis said that Trump “could’ve come out more forcefully” to stop the insurrection on January 6, 2021. DeSantis told Tapper on Tuesday that he has the resources to compete in the face of reports from over the weekend about his financial position. About 90 people were on the DeSantis campaign payroll during the second quarter. Over the weekend, a spokesperson for DeSantis’ campaign confirmed to CNN it let go of some staffers, after Politico reported that “fewer than 10 staffers” in event planning were cut on Thursday. “I would respect everybody, but what I wouldn’t do is turn society upside down to be able to accommodate, which is a very, very small percentage of the population,” DeSantis told CNN.

Anti-LGBTQ+ activism spiked in June, according to the monitoring group ACLED. Pride Month saw more anti-LGBTQ+ demonstrations than any other period since 2020. As the LGBTQ+ community has become increasingly visible in entertainment, politics, and corporate America, there has been an accompanying spike in anti-LGBTQ+ activism. "This new peak in our data comes after anti-LGBTQ+ demonstrations had already surged to their highest point on record by late 2022." That — visibly showing up for LGBTQ+ rights — is what Bjorn-James argues will determine whether far-right activism proliferates or recedes.

The fiscal 2024 National Defense Authorization Act, or NDAA, which sets policy for the Pentagon and authorizes $886 billion in spending, was approved 219-210. The vote was largely along party lines, a departure from the typical bipartisan support for a bill that has passed every year since 1961. The House voted 221 to 213 for an amendment that would reverse the Defense Department's policy of reimbursing expenses for service members who travel to obtain an abortion. The House also voted 222-211 to prohibit the Pentagon from paying for gender-affirming surgeries and hormone treatment. UPCOMING SENATE DEBATEHouse Republicans were able to pass their amendments without Democratic support, but such provisions would die in the Senate, where President Joe Biden's fellow Democrats hold a 51-49 majority.

Twitter announced Thursday it would start sharing ad revenue with some creators. Elon Musk has started sharing Twitter's ad revenue with a handful of accounts, hoping to incentivize the best creators to put their content on his platform. Twitter announced Thursday that creators would now be eligible to some of the company's ad revenue, "to help people earn a living directly" on the platform. But on the rare occasion Donaldson reveals how much ad revenue he makes, it is surprisingly little. Ad revenue traditionally aids smaller accounts who don't have their own brand deals — YouTube monetization is open to anyone with 1,000 subscribers.

Opinion | Everything’s Coming Up Soft Landing

The latest numbers on consumer prices arrived on Wednesday, and they were better than even optimists had expected. Even media reports, as far I can tell, generally omitted the “but concerns remain” qualifiers that have seemed mandatory when covering good news about the Biden economy. It strongly suggested that we may be heading for a soft landing — a return to acceptable inflation without a large rise in unemployment. We’re not there yet, and I’ll talk shortly about what may still go wrong. But a happy outcome that not long ago seemed like wishful thinking now looks more likely than not.

Hard-right House Republicans are pushing to use the yearly bill that sets the United States military budget and policy as an opportunity to pick fights with the Biden administration over abortion, race and transgender issues, imperiling its passage and the decades-old bipartisan consensus in Congress around backing the Pentagon. Republican leaders have scheduled votes beginning on Wednesday on the $886 billion measure, but as of Tuesday evening, they had yet to dissuade their ultraconservative colleagues from efforts to load it up with politically charged provisions to combat what the G.O.P. calls “wokeness” in the military. Those proposals — including rolling back a Pentagon policy providing service members access to abortions and defunding the military’s diversity, equity and inclusion programs — would alienate the moderate Republicans and Democrats whose votes would be needed to get the bill through the narrowly divided House. The situation has turned the annual defense policy bill into the latest test of Speaker Kevin McCarthy’s leadership since the far right revolted over the debt ceiling deal he forged with President Biden, grinding the House to a halt to demand more influence over its agenda.

(Reuters) - A new Missouri securities rule offers a template for Republican U.S. state officials who want to advance an “anti-woke” business agenda even as such ideas struggle for legislative backing. Ashcroft acted after Republican lawmakers failed to pass a similar measure during the state’s legislative session that ended on May 12, amid infighting over which bills should be prioritized. Concerns over costs, bureaucracy and economic fallout led to bills stalling or passing in weakened form even in so-called red states, where Republicans dominate state government. Several corporate attorneys said other Republican officials may adopt Ashcroft’s playbook and act on their own. According to a spokesperson, Ashcroft initiated the rulemaking before the legislative session began, essentially as a backup plan in case lawmakers did not act on the same idea introduced in January.

CNN —There’s nearly a 50-year age gap between the oldest Baby Boomer and the youngest member of Gen Z. As Pew President Michael Dimock put it, a common misconception about Baby Boomers’ past serves as a reminder of a key question we should be asking as we talk about Gen Z today. Cultural critic Louis Menand has pointed out that another important detail often gets overlooked when talking about this chapter in Baby Boomers’ past. And Gen Z may not be as ‘woke’ as you thinkCould our understanding of Gen Z’s politics – frequently described as liberal – also be missing part of the picture? Musk responded to a tweet by ALX, a prominent Twitter user and one of his friends on the platform, saying: "There does seem to be far higher interest in pursuing Trump compared to other people in politics." In the tweet, which was posted hours after Trump was indicted on Thursday, Musk added: " Very important that the justice system rebut what appears to be differential enforcement or they will lose public trust. For more than a decade, Sean Bailey has run Disney’s animated film “reimagining” factory with quiet efficiency and superhero-sized results. Disney’s animated classics are treasured by fans, but most showcase ideas from another era, especially when it comes to gender roles: Be pretty, girls, and things might work out. The reimaginings, as Mr. Bailey refers to his remakes, find ways to make Disney stories less retrograde. “We want to reflect the world as it exists,” Mr. Bailey said. But that worldview — and business strategy — has increasingly put Disney and Mr. Bailey, a low-profile and self-effacing executive, in the middle of a very loud, very unpolite cultural fight.

Donald Trump spent some of Thursday complaining about calling things "woke." His objection — based on the idea that the term is poorly understood — did not last long. Later on Thursday he was back to using it liberally to trash the US military. He said: "I don't like the term 'woke' because I hear 'woke, woke, woke' — you know, it's like just a term they use, half the people can't even define it, they don't know what it is." Some things he has called woke:Meanwhile on Thursday, DeSantis' campaign was distracted by his inconsistent pronunciation of his surname.

Donald Trump says he doesn't like the word "woke," despite using it many times in the past. Ron DeSantis appears to love using the word, boasting that "Florida is wear woke goes to die." "I don't like the term 'woke' because I hear 'woke woke woke' — you know it's like just a term they use, half the people can't even define it, they don't know what it is," Trump said. Trump has used the word "woke" countless times over the years in speeches, official statements, and online posts. Taryn Fenske, communications director for DeSantis, said woke was a "slang term for activism … progressive activism" as well as a belief in systemic injustices, Florida Politics reported.
