Kansas City Police Chief Stacey Graves confirmed that at least one person was killed in a shooting at the end of a celebration after the Chiefs won the Super Bowl. Graves said the shooting happened on the west side of Union Station. When officers got there, they took two people into custody and immediately started helping people who were hurt. Officials don't know exactly how many people were wounded, but it "could be upwards from 10 to 15," Graves said. The revamped Congressional District 2, which was designed to boost the voting power of Black residents, has a voting-age population that is 48.7% Black, giving the district a decidedly Democratic tilt. State Republicans, however, say they are not ceding the seat without a fight. A federal judge ordered Georgia to draw an additional Black-majority congressional district, although the state plans to appeal. The Alabama district is an open seat in the 2024 election after the current representative, Republican Rep. Barry Moore, was drawn out of the district. Moore has decided to challenge Republican Rep. Jerry Carl in Congressional District 1.

Dogs seem to make us healthier than we would be without them. Social psychologist Bruce Headey conducted a survey of Australian dog-owners and found that they take fewer trips to the doctor and sleep better than non-dog-owners. It’s not that dog-owners are naturally healthier; bringing a dog into your life somehow brings these benefits along. James Serpell, a professor of animal ethics at the University of Pennsylvania, conducted a study in the U.K. that followed pet owners through the 10 months after they adopted their pet. Their scores on measures of general health also improved, and dog-owners increased their physical activity considerably.
