While the prospect of an economic downturn can be worrying, indicators suggest it's still a good time to start a business. "When starting a business, your capital needs are as low as they're ever going to be," he said. Mawhinney, along with an economist, a business coach, and an entrepreneur, each shared their predictions for the coming years and why they encourage aspiring business owners to jump on the entrepreneurial bandwagon now. "But what we're seeing now is they've realized that employment itself is risky, and it's become easier to start that business." She encourages her coaching clients, who are aspiring entrepreneurs and freelancers, to take advantage of the new opportunities.
Gordon Haskett said the 74% pullback in Lyft shares this year creates an enticing entry point for investors looking for a bargain. Analyst Robert Mollins upgraded shares of the ridesharing stock to a buy rating with a $24 price target, noting that Lyft is trading at an attractive discount to Uber and shares can more than double from Tuesday's close. Along with the pullback in shares, Mollins highlighted several additional catalysts for the stock going forward, including continued improvement to driver supply — specifically in California. Compared to Lyft, Uber shares have slumped about 41% this year. Lyft said Tuesday the proposal has "no immediate or direct impact" on its business at this time.
New Biden labor rule would make contractors into employees

WASHINGTON, Oct 11 (Reuters) - The U.S. Department of Labor proposed a rule on Tuesday that would make it more difficult for companies to treat workers as independent contractors, a change that is expected to shake up the business models of the ridesharing, delivery and other industries that rely on gig workers. The proposal would require that workers be considered a company's employees, who are entitled to more benefits and legal protections than contractors, when they are "economically dependent" on the company. The Labor Department said it will consider workers' opportunity for profit or loss, the permanency of their jobs, and the degree of control a company exercises over a worker, among other factors. Gig worker rule comes at bad time for gig economy
  + stars: | 2022-10-11 | by ( Jennifer Saba | ) www.reuters.com   time to read: +4 min
President Joe Biden’s administration is seeking to turn some independent contractors into employees. Shares of Uber, Lyft and DoorDash were down approximately 7% by noon in New York. Analysts expect Uber, DoorDash and Lyft to earn EBITDA margins of just 5% to 7% of revenue this year, according to Refinitiv. A gig worker rule comes at the worst possible time for America’s gig economy. The rule would require companies that rely on so-called gig workers to designate them as employees, making them eligible for more benefits and legal protections.
Read our review Read Our Review A looong arrow, pointing rightThe Marriott Bonvoy Bold® Credit Card comes with a decent welcome bonus and perks for a no-annual-fee card, but unless paying an annual fee is a dealbreaker for you, other Marriott cards — like the Marriott Bonvoy Boundless® Credit Card, Marriott Bonvoy Brilliant™ American Express® Card, or Marriott Bonvoy Business® American Express® Card — are a better deal. The Marriott Bonvoy Bold® Credit Card is one of six Marriott credit cards currently available to new applicants, and it's the only version that doesn't charge an annual fee. For most folks who stay with Marriott, even occasionally, the Marriott Bonvoy Boundless® Credit Card and Marriott Bonvoy Business® American Express® Card are a better deal. Generally, the Marriott Bonvoy Bold® Credit Card requires a good to excellent credit score to be eligible, which means a FICO score of at least 670.Who is eligible for the Marriott Bonvoy Bold? You're also not eligible if you already have a Marriott Bonvoy Bold® Credit Card, Marriott Bonvoy Boundless® Credit Card, or Marriott Bonvoy® Premier credit card (not available to new applicants) open, or earned the welcome bonus from one in the past 24 months.
