The commissioners of MLB, MLS, the NBA, NFL, NHL, NWSL and WNBA, as well as the president of NASCAR, are the brainchildren behind a new campaign to curb hate in America. The Foundation to Combat Antisemitism, founded by New England Patriots owner Robert Kraft, will back the campaign called “Timeout Against Hate.” Kraft met with the commissioners of the aforementioned sports leagues earlier this year to discuss a potential campaign, and they are committing $50 million to spread the message. “Why in sports do you take a timeout?,” Kraft told NBC News. Last year, Kraft met with more than 80 sports figures to discuss how sports could be used to combat hate in America. The commissioners ultimately gathered in the NFL’s “main conference room,” per Kraft.

Lawyers for The New York Times are poring through ChatGPT's source code and training material. It is there to be inspected by lawyers for The New York Times. The Times' lawyers can share their notes with up to five outside consultants to help them understand what the code does. That text includes stories from The New York Times, articles from other publications, and an untold number of copyrighted books. In today's big story, we got our first interest-rate cut, but it doesn't feel like it for many consumers . We finally got an interest-rate cut, but borrowing costs are still high. First off, last month's interest-rate cut wasn't going to provide immediate relief. These viruses, however, are not the kind that will give you the common cold or flu (or worse). It’s amazing how much untapped biodiversity is all around us.”The study identified more than 600 viruses found in the samples taken from showerheads and toothbrushes. And for every bacterium, there’s potentially tens or hundreds or even thousands of viruses that infect it,” Hartmann said, noting that viruses mutate very quickly, too. She hypothesized that a bacterium in your mouth could transfer to your toothbrush, taking its viruses with it – and these could keep evolving on the toothbrush. “Microbes are everywhere all the time … We wouldn’t be able to digest our food or fend off infection if we didn’t have our microbes,” Hartmann said.

A television broadcasts the Federal Reserve's interest rate cut on the floor of the New York Stock Exchange on Sept. 18, 2024. Roche said the figures made the Fed's "jumbo interest rate cut look silly, populist and panicky." 1 is that [it gives the impression that] the economy is more fragile than it is ... and the economy is fine, thank you very much, and doesn't need jumbo rate cuts," he told CNBC's "Squawk Box Europe." And headline and core inflation will stay above the Fed target of 2%, so the case for aggressive rate cuts [is not there]," he said. "Yes there is a case for modest rate cuts, there is a case for 25 to 50 basis point cuts by January next year, but a case for 50 basis point cut at the next meeting just does not exist," Parker said.

Tuesday morning marked the start of a dockworkers strike that will shutter dozens of US ports that handle about half of all US ocean imports. The Iranian attack was largely thwarted, and the dockworkers strike could be short-lived. That's thanks in part to strong demand in China.
