Desperate rescue efforts were underway across southern and eastern Spain on Thursday after torrential rain brought devastating floods that killed at least 95 people — a figure expected to rise. Stunning images emerged from Valencia, Spain’s third most populous city, showing dozens of cars wedged atop one another after being carried by a wave of mud and debris into the walls of the narrow city streets. “Unfortunately, there are dead people inside some vehicles,” said Transport Minister Óscar Puente. LinkedIn has verified more than 55 million of its users, for free, in order to combat the spread of misinformation fueled by the rise of artificial intelligence, the company told CNBC. The Microsoft -owned service said it has the most verified individual human identities of any major social network. LinkedIn began verifying users in April 2023. Social networks are stepping up their efforts to weed out inauthentic activity, including scams and misinformation, across their services. While peers are charging users for verification, LinkedIn is verifying people for free, and using a two-pronged strategy, with a goal of having 100 million users verified by 2025, the company said.

But artist Maurizio Cattelan’s viral creation, titled “Comedian,” may yet prove a sound investment: On Friday, auction house Sotheby’s announced that one of the artwork’s three “editions” is going back on sale — this time with an estimate of $1 million to $1.5 million. “‘Comedian’ is a conceptual artwork, and the actual physical materials are replaced with every installation,” an auction spokesperson said via email. The Miami installation was eventually removed amid public safety concerns, but all three editions were sold at the fair.
