WASHINGTON — The conservative-majority Supreme Court on Wednesday dives into the culture war issue of transgender rights as it weighs whether states can restrict gender transition care for minors. Democrats, including the Biden administration in the case now at the court, have sought to increase protections for transgender people. The surgery ban is not at issue in the Supreme Court case after a lower court judge said the plaintiffs did not have legal standing to challenge it. The case being argued Wednesday reached the Supreme Court after the Cincinnati-based 6th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals issued a ruling last year rejecting challenges to the Tennessee law and a similar measure in Kentucky.

President Joe Biden’s decision to pardon his son Hunter has earned plenty of criticism — and most of it, even the harsh partisan-tinged kind of criticism, has real merit. In hindsight, it turns out Joe Biden had a big vulnerability with his family when it came to serving as president. A word of warning to Democrats pulling a muscle trying to defend Biden’s decision here. I get the sense that many Democrats feel duty-bound to somehow defend Biden’s decision here even if they can’t defend it. This slope is very slippery, and it’s why it’s hard not to ask whether we are witnessing the Trumpification of Joe Biden.

A Chinese man living in the United States illegally was arrested Tuesday and accused of exporting guns and ammunition to North Korea and of planning to send other technology to the nuclear-armed pariah state. At least two shipments of firearms and ammunition were sent, hidden in shipping containers, from the port in Long Beach, California, and on to Hong Kong and then North Korea, according to court documents. In 2022, Wen said he was contacted by two North Korean officials in China who wanted him to send guns and ammunition to North Korea, the affidavit alleges. The North Korean officials had more than guns and ammunition on their mind, according to the affidavit. The North Korean officials also asked for military uniforms, which Wen said he believed would be use to help launch a surprise attack against South Korea, the document says.

Also in an interview this fall, Robert Smith, the lead vocalist and guitarist for the Cure, said dynamic pricing is "driven by greed," calling the practice a "scam." However, with so many recent high-profile tours, "for sure, dynamic pricing has surged to the forefront of concert goers' attention," he said. Throughout the 21st century, revenue from recorded music has gone down while revenue from live music events has gone up. In 2011, Ticketmaster first introduced an early version of dynamic ticket pricing, which is now the standard for live music ticketing sales. "The live music industry is constantly leaving money on the table that fans would pay.

That could be an ominous sign for the market, and for the funds themselves as glitches emerge. Leveraged single stock ETFs hit a record of $17 billion of trading volume on Nov. 21, according Strategas ETF strategist Todd Sohn. Several issuers have launched these funds in recent years, typically tracking stocks with high volatility like Nvidia , Tesla and MicroStrategy . The volume would seem more likely to spike during downturns in the market, when general volatility rises, not well into a bull market, Sohn said. Similarly, Morningstar senior analyst Daniel Sotiroff told CNBC the rise of these types of leveraged funds funds is indicative of a "gambling mentality" in the market and that investors would be better off avoiding them altogether.
