The Education Department is assuring schools and students that its financial aid process is under control, after a botched overhaul over the past year that some colleges say has dented incoming classes. Education Secretary Miguel Cardona has vowed that the FAFSA process is being improved after recent missteps. I want to close up [the] Department of Education, move education back to the states. In May, Cardona announced a “full-scale review” of the Federal Student Aid office that oversees FAFSA and promised “transformational changes” at the division. I’ve taken a college and career readiness class from my high school, but it all sounded really confusing,” she said.

I dedicated my time in high school to achieving my scholarship dreamIn my senior year in high school, I was selected for a full cost of attendance scholarship program. I did this all in the name of no student debt and a prestigious college experience. Related storiesHowever, I found that I had to give too much of myself to the scholarship program. I typically let feelings of guilt and obligation guide my decision-making, and I'm sure this affected my experiences in the scholarship program.

Some of the violence pitted student activists against pro-government student and youth groups and police, and many of those who died were among the student activists. However, Hasina’s statement underlined that police officers, members of her Awami League political party, bystanders and others also were victims of what she described as “terrorist aggression.” She previously has blamed opposition parties for stoking the unrest. Hasina’s statement came as the country’s interim government on Tuesday canceled a public holiday that she had declared for Thursday to mark the death of her father, Bangladesh’s independence leader Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. The cancellation came at the request of at least seven political parties, including the main previous opposition group, the Bangladesh Nationalist Party. An interim government is now running the country, with Muhammad Yunus, a Nobel peace laureate, sworn in as interim leader.

Gen Z has a unique way of learning, and they seek a different path to navigate college. For example, Gen Z highly favors a teaching method known as the flipped classroom, where students watch online videos and expert-narrated demonstrations before coming to class. AdvertisementThey're more likely to be mental health advocatesI've noticed Gen Z values interpersonal communication and engagement on mental health issues. This helps students forego classroom hours and zero in on apprenticeships and job training, with some now labeling Gen Z the "tool-belt" generation.

watch nowBy most accounts, the rollout of the new Free Application for Federal Student Aid, better known as FAFSA, was disastrous from the start. Even now, some college students don't know the status of their aid awards for the fall. "The Department's poor planning has led to a stunning failure: Some college students might not have financial aid dollars in their hands in time to start classes in the next few weeks," said Beth Maglione, interim president and CEO of the National Association of Student Financial Aid Administrators. Families 'are falling back on borrowing for college'For many families, financial aid is crucial when it comes to covering college costs, which have now crept into the six figures. The share of parents taking out federal parent PLUS loans to help cover the costs of their children's college education has also grown, other studies show.

Students and their families, along with college financial aid administrators, hoped the 2025-26 school year would be a return to normalcy. Financial aid administrators continue to deal with problems even as the school year quickly approaches. But ultimately, financial aid advocates conceded that they'd rather have a delayed-yet-functional application than an on-time and glitchy one. There's not much applicants can do at this point to ease stress about the financial aid timeline. Still, Vasconcelos shares three tips for incoming or current college students as the upcoming financial aid cycle approaches.

The historic endorsement came after Biden announced Sunday that he is dropping out of the race following weeks of disarray within the Democratic Party. My very first decision as the party nominee in 2020 was to pick Kamala Harris as my Vice President. Despite the president’s backing, it remains unclear whether Harris will become the nominee, or what process the Democratic Party would take to select an alternative. Dmitri Mehlhorn, a Democratic political strategist advising several big-money backers, released a statement Sunday following Biden’s withdrawal supporting Harris. NEMA said that students were amongst those who died in Jos, the capital of Plateau State, without providing an exact number. Around 120 people were trapped when the building collapsed, according to Plateau State government. The governor of Plateau State, Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang, said the building collapsed as students were sitting an exam. Tens of thousands of students blocked the main streets of Bangladesh’s capital, Dhaka, on Thursday, demanding that quotas for civil service jobs be abolished and those jobs given to candidates on the basis of merit. The protests broke out after a Dhaka court recently reinstated quotas for government jobs, which were abolished by a government order in 2018 following another countrywide student protest. The appellate division halted the new ruling for four weeks on Wednesday, but that did not quell the demonstrations. Protesting students blocked entry and exit points as well as key intersections in Dhaka, one of the world’s most crowded cities, causing major traffic congestion. Students broke a police barricade in Dhaka’s Shahbag area on Thursday evening to conduct a large sit-in.

In February, Patrice Motz, a veteran Spanish teacher at Great Valley Middle School in Malvern, Pa., was warned by another teacher that trouble was brewing. Some eighth graders at her public school had set up fake TikTok accounts impersonating teachers. Ms. Motz, who had never used TikTok, created an account. “Answer: Sí.”In the days that followed, some 20 educators — about one quarter of the school’s faculty — discovered they were victims of fake teacher accounts rife with pedophilia innuendo, racist memes, homophobia and made-up sexual hookups among teachers. Hundreds of students soon viewed, followed or commented on the fraudulent accounts.

A good leader can't be afraid to get their hands dirty, according to Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang. Years later, he would hatch the idea for Nvidia with his co-founders in a booth at the same Denny's where he'd once cleared tables, washed dishes and even cleaned toilets. "To me, no task is beneath me because, remember, I used to be a dishwasher [and] I used to clean toilets," Huang said in a March interview at the Stanford Graduate School of Business. Whenever possible, the longtime CEO likes to show his employees his reasoning for a suggestion or solution he offers. Yet, the system has also exacerbated the social divide between the haves and have-nots, who are confined to the largely abysmal state-run education system. That means entrance tests and examinations are a high-stakes juncture in a person's life. A half-hearted attempt at testing the country's education system in 2021 was aborted when the Covid-19 pandemic hit the country. The company, which offers services ranging from online tutorials to offline coaching, attracted billions of dollars from investors worldwide during the pandemic when online education services were in high demand. One of the companies it bought was an offline test preparation service called Aakash Education Services, which is still expected to IPO this year.
