Meanwhile, ether is heading for a losing week even after ether futures ETFs began trading, which was expected to be a positive catalyst for the cryptocurrency and digital assets broadly. That represents about 0.2% of the trading volume of bitcoin futures ETFs on their first day of trading, he added. Bitcoin and ether, the "blue chip" coins in the crypto market, are widely seen as high-risk and notoriously volatile assets that sometimes move in tandem with the broader market. Many crypto investors take a longer view on them, however, and may still see them as safe havens. While one group may be concerned that their prices have been stuck this year, the other sees them as resilient in the face of U.S. regulatory uncertainty and rising rates.

A bitcoin is seen in an illustration picture taken at La Maison du Bitcoin in Paris, France, June 23, 2017. It's a bit old hat, say a cohort of crypto investors who are betting on blockchain technology breathing new life into traditional assets. Others like Franklin Templeton, UBS Asset Management and ABN Amro (ABNd.AS) have launched tokenized versions of assets such as money market funds and green bonds. Indeed, the actual issuance and value of tokenized traditional assets remains small. Some market players now see significant advances.

President of Spain's women's Liga F soccer league Beatriz Alvarez speaks with Reuters during an interview at their headquarters in Madrid, Spain, September 27, 2023. "At least since I came to the Liga F, there has been an absolute lack of institutional respect - as well as sexism - from the federation," Alvarez added. Alvarez recounted how her third child had been born just a day before the Liga F season kicked off. Alvarez said she was not invited by the RFEF to the Women's World Cup final in Sydney, which she believes would never have happened to the president of the men's league. Still, she said the fact that the women's team won the World Cup had put them in the global spotlight, which should boost women's football, help to stamp out sexist attitudes and promote equality.

The endless, relentless eruptions of sexual abuse and harassment scandals can sometimes seem like a particularly grim form of Zeno’s dichotomy paradox. Back in the 5th century B.C., the Greek philosopher described how a runner on the path to a particular destination must first traverse half the distance, and then half the remaining difference, and then half the remaining distance, and so on — to infinity. By that logic, the runner can take steps toward a goal but will never actually reach it. Similarly, each time a powerful man is held accountable for sexual misconduct, it seems like progress. Take the news from the past eight days.

Meanwhile, two indoor farming companies that attracted strong startup money — New Jersey's AeroFarms and Kentucky's AppHarvest — filed for bankruptcy reorganization. Advocates say growing indoors uses less water and land and allows food to be grown closer to consumers, saving on transport. Tom Kimmerer, a plant physiologist who taught at the University of Kentucky, has tracked indoor farming alongside his research into the growth of plants both outdoors and inside. He said some companies may be struggling to scale up, with problems that come from launching in spaces that aren't necessarily built specifically for indoor farming. Several of the companies say they're on the right track.

Gold listless as investors await U.S. data for Fed policy guidance
  + stars: | 2023-09-12 | by ( ) www.cnbc.com   time to read: +2 min
Gold prices settled into a holding pattern on Tuesday as investors awaited U.S. inflation figures that could provide an updated view on interest rates after the Federal Reserve kept the door open for further policy tightening. Spot gold was flat at $1,921.25 per ounce, as of 0510 GMT, while U.S. gold futures eased 0.2% to $1,944.30. Demand for non-interest-bearing gold could take a hit if the Fed further raises U.S. interest rates to quell inflation. Although, a sustained push higher in gold prices likely needs to be catalyzed by an eventual turn towards a Fed cutting cycle, they added. Elsewhere, spot silver rose 0.2% to $23.12 per ounce, platinum climbed 0.2% to $899.90 per ounce and palladium added 0.2% to $1,220.64 per ounce.

As a British company, Arm qualifies as a foreign private issuer in the U.S. and its shares will count as American depositary shares, or ADSs. At the upper end of that range, CNBC estimates that Arm will likely raise up to $4.87 billion. At the lower end, the IPO would fetch $4.49 billion of fresh capital for Arm. At the upper end of the pricing range, Arm would also attain a total valuation of $52 billion, according to CNBC calculations. If they choose to purchase these shares, SoftBank's ownership of Arm will be reduced to 89.9%, the company said.

You can also tactfully share your concerns with your main contact, outlining how the transitional chaos is complicating your work. I consistently encounter one employee wearing her lab coat completely unbuttoned and wearing a cropped tube top underneath. Safety policies exist for a reason, and asking someone to follow those policies is ensuring that the workplace stays safe and helps to avoid sanctions and/or fines. Part of your job is to pay attention to how your team is adhering to safety policies.

Here are some charts illustrating what has changed, and what has not, in meme stocks. Data from JPMorgan illustrate how quickly sentiment can turn among individual investors, who have been among the key drivers of moves in meme stocks. Retail investors sold a net $852 million in single stocks in the past week. The Roundhill MEME ETF (MEME.P), which tracks the performance of a basket of meme stocks, is down about 55% from where it started trading in December 2021, though up about 38% for the year. A quick rise, often followed by a rapid descent, is a fate common to meme stocks of both the past and present.

"Crypto still has struggled to see a meaningful run," Wolfe Research strategist Rob Ginsberg said in a note Wednesday. A crypto asset's "dominance" measures how much of it makes up the total cryptocurrency market cap. Investors use it to determine which parts of the crypto market are outperforming or underperforming relative to their peers and to identify changes in trend. "The coin still has a massive uphill battle to fight if it plans on retaking former levels. Crypto equities — miners Marathon and Riot , crypto exchange Coinbase , and bitcoin proxy MicroStrategy in particular — have been outperforming bitcoin as well, Ginsburg noted.

The first hour of “They Cloned Tyrone” is surprisingly talkative. Taylor positions these sites as places where an outside force can easily undermine the Black community, rendering it pliant through food, religion and beauty products. You wonder, however, whether the film is portraying these spaces as necessary sites for escapist joy or scrutinizing them as crutches. Taylor portrays Black self-hatred as a danger equal to these extensions of white contempt. A play on “The Truman Show” by way of “Undercover Brother,” “They Cloned Tyrone” also stands firmly on its glossy style — the evocatively smoky John Carpenter-esque cinematography and the Blaxploitation-inspired costumes — and its spirited performances.
