Canada and India each expelled six diplomats Monday in tit-for-tat moves as part of an escalating dispute over the June 2023 assassination of a Sikh activist in Canada. Shortly afterward, the Indian foreign ministry said that it was expelling six Canadian diplomats, including the acting high commissioner and the deputy high commissioner. It said in a statement that the diplomats were told to leave India by the end of Saturday. A senior Canadian official said that Canada expelled the Indian diplomats first before they withdrew. In response to the allegations, India told Canada last year to remove 41 of its 62 diplomats in the country.

Inside data brokers' massive vaultCybersecurity experts estimate that data brokers collect an average of 1,000 data points on each individual with an online presence. Little oversight around data privacyThe lack of comprehensive regulation around data privacy allows data brokers to operate with little oversight, unlike the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) in the European Union. Opt-out links and instructions are readily available for most of the major data brokers: ExperianTransUnionLexisNexisEpsilon But data privacy experts says reclaiming or deleting your data from brokers can be a deliberately complex process that is not only time-consuming but frustrating. "With AI, data brokers will create even more detailed and predictive profiles, incorporating everything from biometric data to behavioral tracking," Abed said. Until regulation steps in, data brokers will continue to collect as much data as possible.

Wall Street has been fairly hot-and-cold on Tesla stock this year — and its highly anticipated robotaxi unveiling on Thursday isn't helping to improve investor sentiment. Airports are looking to private wireless networks to improve operations, execs said at MWC Las Vegas. Private wireless networks are key to ushering in a better airport experience for both the travel hubs' operations and the billions of passengers who pass through them. Private networks generally offer greater security and reliability, lower latency, and higher bandwidth compared with public networks. "As I think about a future with a lot of growth, private wireless is foundational. Private wireless networks can also help enterprises with cost and mobility by reducing the expense of installing cables and by providing connectivity to areas that might be harder to reach with wires.

This article is part of the Opinion series At the Brink, about the threat of nuclear weapons in an unstable world. It follows a decades-long freeze on designing, building or testing new nuclear weapons. The new buildings and cutting-edge machinery will eventually process the uranium needed to make the next generation of American nuclear weapons. Now there are an estimated 12,000 nuclear weapons in the world. It is undeniably true that the world is becoming more contentious, and nuclear weapons do deter our adversaries.

AdvertisementTwo years after OpenAI's ChatGPT and other chatbots launched, the advertising community's excitement over generative AI has come down to earth. The shift was evident at New York's Advertising Week, a four-day gathering this week that organizers expected 17,000 to attend. Last year, a Salesforce survey showed about three-quarters of marketers were or planned to use generative AI. Though enthusiasm about AI was tempered in the industry at this year's Advertising Week, there wasn't a widespread abandonment of the tech. Adtech company LiveRamp announced a pair of AI partnerships to help marketers find the right AI company for a given problem.

After the positive flu result, health care workers started using more personal protective gear around the patient. Separately, as part of routine flu surveillance and not because doctors suspected anything unusual in the patient’s case, the hospital sent the patient’s flu sample to be tested for H5, which is the bird flu virus strain. Officials found that during the patient’s time at the hospital, 112 health care workers had interacted with them. After exposure to the bird flu virus, people typically develop symptoms within 3 to 5 days. All of that additional information on the health workers will be secondary to the blood tests results, Rivers said, and whether they show signs of a previous infection.

“It also makes you a lot nicer to be around.”Cutting out social media and screen time altogether may be too much to ask. And because social media algorithms are designed to hold your attention, negative content that grabs you will keep getting pushed to you, Armitage said. On the other hand, if you are getting sucked into email, social media or news, you are getting rolling before you’ve had a chance to plan your day mentally, Rutledge said. By starting the day without social media, you might also get a boost from increasing your sense of agency over the kinds of content you are consuming — rather than letting social media pull you into a mindless scroll, Rutledge said. “By doing these things you are taking control of your phone rather than your phone controlling you,” Armitage added.

Tara flour is one of two products made from the seed pods of a thorny shrub native to Peru. The pods of the tara plant are used to make tara gum and tara flour. The Central Intelligence Agency is releasing instructions in Farsi, Mandarin and Korean to allow people to share information with the agency without running afoul of authoritarian regimes. The instructions, in a text-only video and infographic, were posted online across multiple social media platforms and sites on the dark web, the agency said. In 2023, the CIA announced it had posted instructions in Russian on how to access a site on the dark web accessible only through a Tor internet browser, which unlike most browsers has encryption protections. The spy agency’s director, William Burns, has said that disaffection in Russia after Moscow’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine has created a “once-in-a-generation” recruiting opportunity for the CIA. Once a message lands at the agency, the CIA will evaluate it, the agency said.
