Kevin Winter/Getty ImagesCountry music artist Jelly Roll is having a hell of a year. That felt somewhat apropos given that Jelly Roll got his start in the rap game before becoming a country rocker (watch his doc “Jelly Roll: Save Me” on Hulu if you want to learn more). His later in life success and genre jump are proof positive that everyone’s road to success looks different. Even his accidently dropping and shattering his CMA Award offers a life lesson. Here’s to Jelly Roll smashing records in the future – and not awards.

Opinion: Why I’m not going to have children
  + stars: | 2023-11-11 | by ( Opinion Anna Lee | ) edition.cnn.com   time to read: +10 min
But each day, the current state of the world dissuades me more and more from having children. Like many folks in Gen Z (those born between 1997 and 2012), my main concern is climate change. As environmental catastrophes reach a caliber we cannot predict or conceive, having children is becoming less of a risk I’m willing to take. Coupled with the resources and opportunities that the US provides, my hypothetical children likely wouldn’t be among the worst-affected by climate change. Under today’s environmental and political climate, I find it is better to regret not having children than regret having them.

Aldean and Anthony's dominance wasn't long — and Combs did earn a 2024 Grammy nomination for best country solo performance — but Wallen stands out as an obvious exclusion. While “Last Night” is nominated for best country song, a songwriter's award, Wallen himself isn't despite his successful year. Monét has also picked up record of the year and best R&B song nominations for her glossy, brassy “On My Mama,” best R&B performance and best traditional R&B performance. US singer Taylor Swift arrives for the "Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour" concert movie world premiere at AMC The Grove in Los Angeles, California on October 11, 2023. The pop star's Eras Tour concert film snared $31 million during its second weekend in theaters, the most of any concert film at the domestic box office. "The film continues to shatter concert movie records as it brings to theaters much-needed foot traffic during a fourth quarter impacted by Hollywood's labor strikes." In total, the Eras Tour film has secured an estimated $129.8 million at the domestic box office. Already, the Eras Tour concert film has had the widest domestic release for a concert film (opening in more than 3,850 locations) and the highest opening weekend domestically for a concert film, surpassing Miley Cyrus' "Best of Both Worlds Concert" from 2008, which snared $31.1 million during its domestic debut, according to data from Comscore.

Box office analysts became Swifties in the lead-up to Taylor Swift's Eras Tour concert film release, estimating blockbuster-style opening weekend numbers. While the pop singer fell short of the $100 million benchmark, domestic ticket sales still topped $95 million, according to distributor AMC Entertainment. Already, the film has shattered records, becoming the highest-grossing concert film release domestically, surpassing Justin Beiber's "Never Say Never" film release, which hauled in $73 million over the course of its run in theaters in 2011, in a single weekend. Swift's Eras Tour film is also the widest-released concert film in history, arriving in more than 3,850 domestic locations during its debut. Initially, expectations said Swift could tally between $40 million and $60 million on Friday, on her way to an opening weekend draw of as much as $150 million.

Taylor Swift fans had just eight hours to buy tickets for last-minute Thursday night previews of her Eras Tour concert film. Box office analysts don't see the small Thursday night haul as any indication of the potential success of Swift's film. Expectations are that Swift could tally between $40 million and $60 million on Friday, on her way to a an opening weekend draw of as much as $150 million. Swift's film is on pace to open in around 3,850 theaters, making it the widest domestic release of a concert film. AMC Entertainment, which is distributing the film, reported last week that presales for its theaters had already exceeded $100 million for the full run of Swift's film.

September 28 - Tyrone Taylor doubled in the go-ahead run in the seventh inning as the Milwaukee Brewers rallied for a 3-2 victory over the visiting St. Louis Cardinals on Wednesday night. The Cardinals loaded the bases in the eighth against Andrew Chafin, who relieved Joel Payamps to start the inning. Contreras doubled to open the inning and Taylor followed with an RBI double, continuing to third on a throwing error by leftfielder Richie Palacios. The Cardinals loaded the bases with no outs in the second, but Brewers starter Wade Miley avoided a big inning, allowing just one run. Nootbaar singled on a dribbler to short, Herrera singled to center, and Juniel Querecuto reached on a bunt to load the bases.

The Brewers have reached the playoffs five of the last six years, the exception coming last season. There’s a sense of urgency associated with this playoff berth because of the long-term uncertainty surrounding some key figures. The Brewers were one win away from the World Series in 2018 when they lost a Game 7 at home to the Los Angeles Dodgers, but they haven’t won a postseason series since. Although Milwaukee owns a combined 2-10 record against the Atlanta Braves and Dodgers — the NL’s top two playoff seeds — the Brewers’ pitching gives them reason for optimism. The Brewers have lost seven of their last eight postseason games, a stretch that started with that Game 7 defeat in 2018.

Despite placing her previous documentaries and concert films on streaming services in the past, the iconic pop star opted to deliver her Eras Tour film directly to cinemagoers this October. Of course, the theater company will generate significantly more than that in concession sales, perhaps the real upside to Swift's film release. "Taylor Swift, being a cultural powerhouse and shaper of new business models, may have a hand in bringing back the old-school style concert film." Swift's concert film seems destined to overtake the current record holder for a theatrical concert film. Miley Cyrus' "Best of Both Worlds" concert film tallied $31.1 million during its opening weekend back in 2008, appearing in around 680 locations.
