The former president and current front-runner for the 2024 Republican nomination will be on hand Saturday as the University of South Carolina Gamecocks host the Tigers of Clemson University, Haley's alma mater, in the annual Palmetto Bowl. Haley was governor of South Carolina until Trump tapped her to be his United Nations ambassador in 2016. “In 2016, South Carolina gave us 44 out of 46 counties – that’s not so bad,” Trump said at a state GOP dinner in August. Trump’s South Carolina and Super Tuesday romps in 2016 gave him a delegate lead he would never relinquish. “Then I go head-to-head with Trump in my home state of South Carolina.

(AP) — With LSU star forward Angel Reese missing in action and little explanation forthcoming from coach Kim Mulkey, the seventh-ranked Tigers are attracting unwanted scrutiny at the outset of their national title defense. On Monday, there was no indication that Reese would be back with the team for a home game against Texas Southern. It would be highly unusual for a player to begin missing games because of academic eligibility after the basketball season started but before the end of the first semester of an academic year. No LSU players were made available for postgame interviews. Nicknamed the “Bayou Barbie," Reese led LSU to its first national title in women’s basketball last season.

CNN —The firing of Jimbo Fisher will reportedly cost Texas A&M University about $77 million to buy out his contract, according to multiple reports and the salary tracking website Spotrac, after the school relieved him of his duties as head football coach on Sunday. When Fisher was first named head football coach at Texas A&M in 2017, the university said he had agreed to a 10-year contract worth $75 million, adding no “state-appropriated funds” would be used toward his salary. The finances behind the decision to fire the coach are “monumental,” Ross Bjork, Texas A&M director of athletics, said during a Sunday evening news conference. “As the contract states, there is a buyout provision in coach Fisher’s contract and those details will be worked out,” Bjork said. He was hired in December 2017 after spending eight seasons as head coach at Florida State University, where he led the Seminoles to a national championship.
