When I met my husband, he had a daughter already, and I was surprised by my connection to her. I officially became a stepmom, and — though I told my husband I didn't want to be expected to do hands-on parenting if I didn't want to — I embraced my new role. Being a stepmom is the best of both worldsNot long ago, Davey and I questioned whether we should expand our family. Yet I can't deny that as much as I love our family, I also love the built-in breaks that come with split custody. I am a stepmom — a bonus parent, but still a parent, and a role that feels right for me.

WASHINGTON — Rep. Nancy Mace, R-S.C., said Tuesday that her effort to ban transgender women from using female bathrooms at the U.S. Capitol is a direct response to the election of Sarah McBride, who is set to be the first openly transgender person in Congress. She was asked by reporters Tuesday if the move was in response to McBride. Mace said she would like to see her resolution incorporated into the House Rules package for the next Congress. CNBC's Jim Cramer on Tuesday said the charts suggest that fears about President-elect Donald Trump's intentions to implement major tariffs on imports won't affect the market just yet, and the impact of any actual tariffs will be lessened if the market remains bullish. Cramer examined analysis by Jessica Inskip, director of investor research at StockBrokers.com. "The charts ... suggest that tariffs had little impact on the market until they actually materialized during Trump's first term — all the saber-rattling beforehand didn't do much damage," he said. "Even when the tariffs actually hit and the market sold off, we eventually erased those losses the moment that the Fed stopped raising interest rates. But the broader market reacted when Trump actually imposed them, balking at the idea that he had ignited a global trade war, Cramer added.
