Shawn Mendes said that he is “figuring out” his sexuality during his concert in Denver on Monday, according to video footage shared by fans on social media. “I think it’s kind of silly because I think sexuality is such a beautifully complex thing and its so hard to just put into boxes,” he said during his show, which took place at Red Rocks Amphitheatre. Mendes made the remarks before performing his unreleased song “The Mountain,” which features lyrics referencing the speculation over his sexuality. Many fans online said they feel that the public is not entitled to know about the private lives of celebrities. During Monday’s show, Mendes said that it feels scary to open up about his journey because of how people talk about others’ sexuality.

An American Civil Liberties Union lawyer will make history in December as the first openly transgender attorney to argue before the U.S. Supreme Court, opposing Tennessee’s Republican-backed law banning gender-affirming medical care for transgender minors. The Supreme Court on Monday ordered that the argument time for the ban’s challengers be divided between the Justice Department and attorneys representing the original plaintiffs who sued the state. Several plaintiffs — including two transgender boys, a transgender girl and their parents — sued in Tennessee to defend the treatments they have said improved their happiness and wellbeing. The Supreme Court has confronted several cases in the past decade implicating LGBTQ rights. In 2020, it ruled that a landmark federal law forbidding workplace discrimination protects gay and transgender employees.

Ritter was the first person tried and convicted under federal hate crime law for fatal violence against a trans person. Harvard donations are down following a year of campus turmoil. AdvertisementHarvard saw a dip in donations in the most recent fiscal year amid a wave of big-name backers pulling their financial support after fallout from the university's response to the Israel-Hamas war. In fiscal year 2024, which ended June 30, the Ivy League institution brought in just under $1.2 billion in cash gifts, according to a Harvard financial report released Thursday. Some wealthy alumni publicly vowed to suspend donations to Harvard following the university's bungled response to the campus unrest that spread across higher education institutions nationwide last year. According to a 2023 Pew Research Center survey, about a third of Asian American adults identify as Christian. “The Asian American Christian’s identity is the convergence of cultural experience, historical background and core theological transformation,” Kim said. “I do hope and pray Asian American Christians take their civic responsibility seriously,” he said. The origins of Asian American churches influenced their evolution, said Jerry Park, associate professor of sociology at Baylor University in Waco, Texas.

New York CNN —The economic successes of Asheville, North Carolina and Tampa, Florida, have been the envy of many cities across the United States. Will the economies in hard-hit areas like Asheville and Tampa ever fully recover from the hurricanes? Economic activity plunged in the immediate months following Hurricane Katrina in New Orleans, Hurricane Harvey in Houston and Hurricane Irma in Columbia, South Carolina. But within one year after those hurricanes, among the costliest in the US in the last 20 years, economic activity rebounded to levels similar to or greater than before the hurricanes. People could similarly leave parts of Florida if home and flood insurance rates, which have gone up significantly in recent years, continue to jump post Helene and Milton, Kamins told CNN.

The upper house Senate voted into law a bill proposed by Meloni’s Brothers of Italy party by 84 votes to 58. “Motherhood is absolutely unique, it absolutely cannot be surrogated, and it is the foundation of our civilization,” Brothers of Italy senator Lavinia Mennuni said during the parliamentary debate. “We want to uproot the phenomenon of surrogacy tourism.”Earlier this year, Meloni called surrogacy an "inhuman" practice that treated children as supermarket products, echoing a position expressed by the Catholic Church. Hundreds of veterans who were dismissed from the U.S. military under the now-repealed “don’t ask, don’t tell” policy have been given honorable discharges following a yearlong review, the Pentagon announced Tuesday. “Don’t ask, don’t tell” was in effect from February 1994 to September 2011 and resulted in the discharge of more than 13,000 service members. “What this means is that of the nearly 13,500 individuals who were administratively separated under Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell policy, and served long enough to receive a merit-based characterization of service, 96% now have an honorable discharge,” Austin said in the statement. Gays and lesbians dismissed from the military during the “don’t ask, don’t tell” era are part of a legacy that started well before 1994. Historians estimate at least 100,000 service members were forced out of the military due to their actual or perceived sexuality between World War II and 2011.
