People always ask me why I dislike parabolic moves. In other words, parabolic moves force you to be a trader. I will fight no one who wants to buy Palantir because I sense that one will be the last name to go down. But parabolic moves are intoxicating. If we just had the 10-year bond move to 5%, I wouldn't even bother addressing the hidden dangers behind parabolic moves.

October retail sales, released Friday morning, came in slightly ahead of expectations, indicating a 0.4% monthly increase, versus a 0.3% increase expected. Disney's reported strong earnings and its stock advanced more than 16% for the week as a result. In the week ahead, we will get earnings from three Club names, including the highly anticipated quarter from Nvidia, and a couple of housing market-related updates. The Street is looking for Nvidia sales of $33.1 billion in its fiscal Q3 and earnings of 75 cents per share. Jim waits 45 minutes after sending a trade alert before buying or selling a stock in his charitable trust's portfolio.

WASHINGTON — President-elect Donald Trump’s consistent campaign pledge to impose sweeping tariffs on products imported into the U.S. is likely to face stiff challenges in court and potentially pushback from Congress. There are potential legal limits to Trump’s authority, even though he has said he would unilaterally impose the increases. But a broad array of tariffs on allies “could cross the line,” especially as the Supreme Court has taken a generally pro-business stance in recent years, he added. During the Biden administration, the Supreme Court embraced a theory called the “major questions doctrine.” Biden’s ambitious plan to wipe out billions of dollars in student debt was one of the proposals the Supreme Court faulted. The Supreme Court declined to take up the issue.

That's sure to result in increased volatility for the companies in our portfolio exposed to China, the world's second-largest economy. Consumer-dependent stocks Apple and Starbucks may be the most at risk given they are more discretionary versus the aforementioned names. At the Club, Jim has bestowed his "own it, don't trade it" designation on only those two stocks, Apple and Nvidia. AAPL YTD mountain Apple YTD Furthermore, while China growth may be tempered, Apple is aggressively looking to grow its presence in India — both on the consumer side and product manufacturing side of its business. Béla Károlyi, the gymnastics coach who rose to prominence by training Olympic all-around champions Nadia Comăneci and Mary Lou Retton, has died at 82, USA Gymnastics said in a statement on Saturday night. The governing body for the sport in the United States said Károlyi died on Friday, though the cause of death was not immediately clear. He quickly built his reputation in the United States after guiding Retton to gold at the 1984 Games. He was named the head coach of the 1992 Olympic team after years of his gymnasts excelling at domestic and international competitions, though many were plagued by injuries because of overtraining. In 2018, USA Gymnastics cut ties with the training center, known as the Károlyi Ranch, where instances of abuse occurred.

Shares of obesity drugmaker Eli Lilly fell more than 4% on Friday, extending a roughly 3% slide in Thursday's session. Ozempic is the posterchild of the fast-growing GLP-1 class, in which Novo Nordisk and Eli Lilly are currently the two dominant players. Bottom line Eli Lilly has been our favorite drug stock for years thanks to its stellar pipeline led by GLP-1s. And the good run should continue, with management forecasting earnings growth acceleration over the next couple of years. Ending the tax credit could have grave implications for an already stalling U.S. EV transition. Representatives with the Trump transition and Tesla did not immediately respond to requests for comment. The alliance last month in an Oct. 15 letter urged Congress to retain the EV tax credits, calling them "critical to cementing the U.S. as a global leader in the future of automotive technology and manufacturing." Trump's energy transition team views the consumer EV credit as an easy target, believing that eliminating it would get broad consensus in a Republican-controlled Congress as part of a larger tax-reform bill.
