Elon Musk is giving out free blue checkmarks to some who complain about Twitter Blue. Lil Nas X and Bette Midler are among the celebrities who say they didn't pay for Twitter Blue. Twitter users who complain about being given blue checkmarks for free or back a campaign to block those who do pay for them are being trolled by Elon Musk. It comes after some Twitter users started a movement to encourage others to block accounts that pay for Twitter Blue by tweeting with the hashtag #BlockTheBlue. "However, I will say, I think this is the very first funny thing Elon Musk has ever done."
Sen. Angus King, a Maine independent, told Insider the lack of affordable housing is "a national crisis." Maine is facing a severe shortage as it's welcomed a surge of new residents in recent years. The law also eliminated all single-family zoning, eliminates some regulatory restrictions on multi-unit homes, and incentivizes the construction of affordable housing. New Mainers, though welcomed in an aging state in need of more workers, have exacerbated the housing shortage. A lack of affordable housing is central: the state housing authority reported last year that the average price of a house in nearly every county in Maine was unaffordable for the average household income.

Of these 70 episodes, 41 ended with a hard landing and 29 with a soft landing.

The first day of Twitter's previously announced axing of "legacy" verified checks nearly passed without incident. However, Twitter CEO Elon Musk was presented with a meme about the New York Times not intending to pay to keep its check. "Oh ok, we'll take it off then," Musk said, and the Times' gold check disappeared overnight. SANTIAGO DEL ESTERO, Argentina, April 1 (Reuters) - Red Bull KTM rider Brad Binder put on a masterclass in bravery and skill to win Saturday's MotoGP sprint race at the Argentina Grand Prix after starting 15th on the grid. I got super tight in turn one and just tried to hug the inside," Binder said in a post-race interview. Once Bezzecchi got past his Italian compatriot Marini, he looked to hunt Binder down on the final lap but the Red Bull KTM rider held on for the win. The step they made from yesterday was unreal - my bike worked fantastic," Binder added, as he moved up to fourth in the championship. I asked a financial therapist and a financial behaviorist why the cash envelope system is making a comeback. Cash-stuffing is a new name for the old-school cash envelope system, which involves putting cash into envelopes labeled for specific budget categories like rent, groceries, gas, insurance, healthcare, and more. Most of the people who post cash-stuffing videos are women who are trying to curb compulsive spending and refuse to rack up any more credit card debt. For example, if going out to the bar and spending money on drinks with your friends makes you really happy, why not plan to spend money on it? Cash-stuffing videos are fun, but it's not the right strategy for everyoneI'll be the first to admit that even though I love watching these cash-stuffing videos, I probably will never try it.

For months, Trump has been attacking DeSantis with the expectation that he'll challenge him for the 2024 Republican presidential nomination. In the latest dig issued Friday morning, Trump reshared a video of DeSantis on Truth Social. In the clips, DeSantis shifts the pronunciation of his last name from "Dee-Santis" to "Deh-Santis." The question of how to pronounce "DeSantis" made headlines in 2018 when Trump endorsed the then-US congressman for the GOP nomination for governor. In 2018, the Tampa Bay Times suggested that Casey DeSantis rebranded DeSantis' name, under a story headlined "Tomato, Tomahto; Dee-Santis, Deh-Santis."
In 2013, Russian President Vladimir Putin, holding a red binder, and Viktor Yanukovych, Ukraine’s president, agreed that Moscow would bail out Kyiv’s cash-strapped government with bond purchases. The U.K.’s highest court sided with Ukraine in a dispute with Russia over more than $4.5 billion in debt, allowing Kyiv to make the case that it doesn’t need to repay bonds it has said were foisted upon it nearly a decade ago. Wednesday’s ruling by the U.K. Supreme Court means that Ukraine can go to trial to argue that the debt should be voided because it was forced to issue the bonds and sell them to Russia under duress.
Goldman Sachs has named eight global stocks of companies that will become profitable this year and beat the broader market. In a new research report, the investment bank found that companies that transition from unprofitable to profitable during a market recovery typically outperform the broader market. Goldman Sachs also said stocks of European companies undergoing this transition are already showing signs of outperformance against the Stoxx 600 by 6%. Pan-European classifieds operator Adevinta and Swiss solar power engineering firm Meyer Burger are also expected to turn profitable this year. However, Goldman cautioned that the bank isn't certain the market has reached its bottom, and the trend applies only in a market recovery scenario.
To run a sound real estate business, you have to raise rent prices over time, says one investor. When the eviction moratorium in Washington expired at the end of 2021, landlords who had been feeling the squeeze could start increasing rent prices again. Having happy tenants is important. At the end of the day, to run a successful business as a landlord, you have to increase rent over time. The key is to do it while simultaneously maintaining happy tenants.

Adnan Syed, whose murder conviction was tossed in September after he served 23 years behind bars, has been hired by Georgetown University to work on prison reform. Syed's job as a program associate for Georgetown's Prisons and Justice Initiative is his first 9-to-5 office job, according to the university. Part of Syed’s job will include supporting Georgetown’s "Making an Exoneree" class, in which students re-investigate wrongful convictions, make documentaries about the cases and help free innocent people. In the year leading up to his release, Syed had taken part in Georgetown’s Bachelor of Liberal Arts program in prison. An attorney for Lee's family did not immediately respond to an inquiry Friday seeking comment about Syed's job with Georgetown.

"The worst governments are already going to suppress speech," said David Kaye, a law professor at the University of California, Irvine and the former free speech watchdog for the United Nations between 2014 and 2020. The free speech experts who spoke to NBC News on Friday said Twitter's actions could invite international attempts to manipulate Musk. Would some head of state say, 'Hey, can you do this for my country and prevent public reporting?' Kaye, the former U.N. free speech watchdog, said Musk's behavior reminded him in part of authoritarian leaders who enforce rules against challenging the government or criticizing powerful figures, such as royal family members or regime allies. Musk can talk about standing for free speech all he wants, but this should make it clear to everyone that what he’s doing is quite the opposite.
WASHINGTON — Democratic members of Congress had harsh words for Elon Musk on Thursday night after Twitter suddenly suspended a number of high-profile journalists who have been covering the company and Musk, its billionaire CEO. In November, shortly after he took over Twitter, Musk tweeted that he would not ban the account. Musk tweeted Thursday night. "Ro Khanna is great," Musk tweeted in response to one of some of the Twitter files. Rep. Eric Swalwell, D-Calif., tweeted: "Twitter can suspend whoever it wants.
Twitter suspended several high-profile journalists Thursday evening who have been covering the company and Elon Musk. The suspensions come a day after Twitter changed its policies around accounts that track private jets, including one owned by Elon Musk. The Twitter account for Mastodon, a platform billed as an alternative, was also suspended early Thursday evening. As of Thursday evening, Twitter accounts operated by NBC News journalists were unable to tweet a link to the Mastodon account of @ElonJet. The suspensions add to what has been a tumultuous couple of days for Twitter after the company first suspended the account that tracked Musk’s jet.
On Thursday, Twitter suspended the accounts of multiple high-profile journalists who cover owner Elon Musk. Elon Musk later dropped into Twitter Spaces, where reporters asked why the accounts were suspended. Multiple reporters, many of whom cover tech, including Musk and Twitter, saw their Twitter accounts suspended without warning or explanation on Thursday. Twitter suspended that account on Wednesday despite Musk, who has called himself a free-speech absolutist, tweeting in November that he wouldn't do so. Twitter Spaces later stopped working, which Musk says happened to fix a "legacy bug," but several Twitter users recorded the exchange between Musk and the reporters.

Dec 15 (Reuters) - Twitter on Thursday suspended the accounts of several prominent journalists who recently wrote about its new owner Elon Musk, with the billionaire tweeting that rules banning the publishing of personal information applied to all, including journalists. On Wednesday, Twitter suspended @elonjet, an account tracking Musk's private jet in real time using data available in the public domain. Twitter on Thursday showed "account suspended" notices for a clutch of journalists' accounts. A spokesperson for The New York Times said: "Tonight's suspension of the Twitter accounts of a number of prominent journalists, including The New York Times's Ryan Mac, is questionable and unfortunate. We hope that all of the journalists' accounts are reinstated and that Twitter provides a satisfying explanation for this action."
The UK government has promised to overhaul the youth gender care system, after it was deemed inadequate by England’s regulator of health and social care. They described a deeply flawed system that is now hobbled by a toxic political climate around gender care. The letter said a decision would be made at some point from early 2022 on whether the child “is likely to meet the access criteria” for gender care. The family has received no NHS gender care or mental health support since the referral, she said. These recommended supporting “identity exploration” and mental health treatment as the first steps to ensure that any psychological issues are addressed.
