Mike Kratky, 33, Leerink PartnersLeerink PartnersSector: Medical devices and technologyKratky's young career underwent a major shift in March 2020 — and it wasn't remote work. The Colgate University graduate thinks he's a better analyst for it because he now understands how readers of his research think. "The stock calls won't always go my way," Kratky said. All eight of the outperform-rated medtech stocks Leerink has covered since October have outperformed the S&P 500 and their industry index. The medtech industry is experiencing rapid change, particularly with the advent of GLP-1 drugs that treat obesity and diabetes.

“Art is one of our oldest creations (humans invented paint long before the wheel), one of the earliest means of communication (we drew long, long, long, long before we could write), and one of our most universal urges,” she wrote. But when you watch artists making art, it is a physical experience. Different art forms affect the brain and body in different ways. Just as when we are prescribed medications, (it’s true that) types, doses and durations of art work differently for different people. And just one art experience per month can extend your life by 10 years.

A Chinese entertainment magnate who pleaded guilty to making more than $10,000 in illegal political campaign donations to three candidates, agreed in federal court on Thursday to give up his green card and leave the United States. Hui Qin, 55, had been in jail in Brooklyn since his arrest in October. One of the candidates was Mayor Eric Adams, according to two people familiar with the case, though none of the campaigns knew the donations were illegal, prosecutors said. In March, Mr. Qin pleaded guilty to charges of making campaign contributions in the names of others, immigration fraud and producing false identification. His company collapsed, he was the target of lawsuits and his wife, Emma Liu, left him, Mr. Mazurek said.

She was dressed rather noticeably, and perhaps slightly humiliatingly, in a red jumpsuit and a white sandwich board she had assembled the night before, writing the words “FREE HELP” in red marker. It was the first day of a project by Ms. Giaever, 34, a filmmaker and radio producer whose work, inspired by performance artists like Sophie Calle and Tehching Hsieh, often involves personal journeys and interactions with strangers. Would the strangers in this supposedly cold and impersonal city accept her help? And if they did, how much could she really help them? Over the course of the four days I spent with Ms. Giaever, things would get more complicated.

Instead, he's betting that small, incremental, and sometimes "boring" moves will make the biggest impact on the bank's overall efficiency. AI is poised to change just about every employee's job at Citi and "sustainably change how we work for decades to come," Zafar said. The four-part plan will impact everyone from technology and operations to wealth and product design. Citi has undergone considerable change as CEO Jane Fraser looks to streamline the bank's operations and boost returns. The next group at Citi poised to use AI widely is operations, or employees who handle back-office administrative processes.

Vista Equity Partners, the private equity giant that's known for its tech investing, doesn't want its analysts using generative AI for due diligence. "And we do want our humans to actually go and read the stuff that's important that's going to make billion-dollar decisions in the diligence side." Other private equity firms, like the Swedish giant EQT, have introduced generative AI to the due diligence process, BI previously reported. Vista Equity Partners, which is in the business of buying companies, improving them, and selling them for a profit, employs people whose sole job is to transform operations of portfolio companies and help them scale, Saroya said. He added that the firm created a reference guide for its portfolio companies, including the data, cloud, and other software providers needed to be successful, and partnered with those companies for the portfolio companies to use, where appropriate.

Watching the red carpet at Monday night’s Met Gala, I couldn’t help but recall a prediction I’d heard from Emily Kirkpatrick, who writes the Substack newsletter “I <3 Mess.” She’d told me recently that, before the end of 2024, it’s possible that “someone is going to show up fully nude on a red carpet.”That didn’t happen at this year’s gala, but it got very close, as Doja Cat — who appeared earlier this year at the Grammy Awards in what was called “the most naked dress ever” — presented at the Met Gala in a long, clinging, soaking wet, transparent and entirely revealing white T-shirt by the label Vetements. Near-nudity is everywhere, at least on celebrities and the celebrity adjacent. Bianca Censori, Kanye West’s 29 year-old partner, wandered around Paris wearing a cropped jacket with sheer pantyhose and seemingly nothing on underneath, her modesty preserved only by the stockings’ single center seam. Julia Fox attended a fashion launch with three silver medallions covering her private parts under a long — and frequently parted — trench coat. This nearly nude look is not, as one might imagine, evidence of an increasingly oversexed culture, but rather of a culture that’s increasingly over sex.

Musician Rosalía brings the straitjacket back into view

CNN —On Tuesday, 12-time Latin Grammy winner Rosalía stepped out in New York wearing an outfit that demanded a double-take. (Since the release of her third album, “Motomami,” Rosalía has been spotted in everything from biker-style shield sunglasses to Harley Davidson helmets). In 1994, the New York State’s Office of Mental Health proposed that straitjackets be discontinued after 18 patients died while restrained or in “unsupervised seclusion” between 1988 and 1992. But Rosalía isn’t the first to attempt to recontextualize the garment in the name of fashion. At the Gucci show in 2019, Ayesha Tan-Jones protested the label's straitjacket-inspired clothes by writing "Mental health is not fashion" on their hands.

Google Cloud, one of the fund's cloud providers, developed new technologies that drew a full room of spectators at Google Cloud Next. When Google Cloud clients request GPUs through DWS, the platform requires clients to specify the region, the machine type and count of machines, and runtime duration. Knowing how many resources a given client needs allows Google Cloud to provision capacity more granularly, which "unlocks additional capacity," Mateo said. As a cloud provider for many financial firms, Google Cloud benefits from helping its clients run these models because many research platforms are hosted on Google's public cloud. In addition to Two Sigma, Citadel Securities has its research platform on Google Cloud.

Landing a tech job on Wall Street has never been simple, but it's even less so today. But widespread layoffs in the tech sector have created a "glut of supply" of "mediocre talent," recruiters told Business Insider. That's not stopping Wall Street firms from tapping external recruiters to find technologists. Given the private nature of their work, recruiters usually keep their client list and searches close to the vest. For that reason, the specific clients most of these recruiters work with are not named.
