But unlike its coastal counterparts, Houston's homes are much cheaper and more abundant. Advertisement"It's really a way to limit housing construction," said Emily Hamilton, a housing researcher at the Mercatus Center at George Mason University. She added that minimum lot sizes maintain "a homogenous type of housing construction with often a high floor on how expensive it has to be." The policy change has spurred the construction of almost 80,000 new homes, many of them townhouses and other kinds of small-lot single-family homes. But the massive success of Houston's minimum lot size reform is getting noticed across Texas and around the country.

SUMMER, 1976, by David Auburn. Read by Laura Linney and Jessica Hecht. Yet audio turns out to be the ideal way to experience “Summer, 1976,” a memory play by David Auburn that opened earlier this year at the Samuel J. Friedman Theater in New York. The veteran actresses Laura Linney and Jessica Hecht, reprising their stage roles, portray Diana and Alice, two women looking back at an unlikely friendship formed over one summer decades past. Alice, in turn, initially judges Diana to be “uptight,” but she grudgingly revises her opinion when Diana accepts her offer of weed on their daughters’ play date.

FOR ANYONE RAISED in or around Atlanta, Martin Luther King Jr. is first and foremost associated with the city where he was born and raised. We Atlantans take pride in the fact that Dr. King grew up on Auburn Avenue, the downtown thoroughfare cutting through the neighborhood of Sweet Auburn. On my travels throughout the South, I’ve seen traces of King everywhere—on street signs and in civil rights museums—but it’s been many years since I’ve followed his footsteps in my own city.
