Surprise: Not every YouTuber edits their own videos. Often a behind-the-scenes gig, the lives and career paths of YouTube editors aren't as public as the stories behind the platform's stars. But like freelance work in media more broadly, many YouTube editors are still figuring out how to structure their payment rates and hours. And unlike in Hollywood where unions often dictate labor terms, YouTube editors are often on their own. Business Insider connected with editors, creators, agents, managers, and other digital-media industry professionals to learn more about the work of editors on YouTube.

The Associated Press (AP) — YouTube is rolling out new rules for AI content, including a requirement that creators reveal whether they've used generative artificial intelligence to make realistic looking videos. In a blog post Tuesday outlining a number of AI-related policy updates, YouTube said creators that don't disclose whether they've used AI tools to make “altered or synthetic” videos face penalties including having their content removed or suspension from the platform's revenue sharing program. Viewers will be alerted to altered videos with labels, including prominent ones on the YouTube video player for sensitive topics. YouTube’s privacy complaint process will be updated to allow requests for the removal of an AI-generated video that simulates an identifiable person, including their face or voice. Sam Bankman-Fried’s criminal fraud trial was not the only high-stakes struggle that unfolded this past month at the federal courthouse in Manhattan. Over five weeks, the trial — with its mix of cryptocurrency intrigue and tabloid-worthy romance — attracted an unusually varied crew of reporters, crypto YouTubers, documentary filmmakers and aspiring influencers. Everyone wanted to sit in the gallery to see Mr. Bankman-Fried in the flesh. If someone lined up outside at 5 a.m., someone else would try to make it by 4 a.m. the next day. The following evening, a freelance journalist showed up just after 10:30 p.m. and huddled in the chill until the courthouse doors opened nine hours later.
