As Huawei tries to upstage Apple 's new iPhone with the launch of its own 'trifold phone' on Tuesday, its chip capabilities remain a weakness, despite recent breakthroughs, according to one analyst. Speaking to CNBC's "Squawk Box Asia" on Tuesday, Martin Yang, senior analyst of emerging technologies at Oppenheimer & Co., said Huawei's chip remains two or three years behind the cutting edge. On the back of this success, Huawei has been able to take back market share from Apple in China, the largest smartphone market in the world. However, unlike with the Mate 50, Huawei has not announced a big chip breakthrough for its latest phone launch.

Fyre Festival is set to return for round two next spring, this time on a privately owned island off Mexico. McFarland said he hopes to gather 3,000 people for Fyre Fest II, scheduled for April 25-28. Whereas he gave himself only six months from the idea for the first Fyre Fest to its attempted execution, McFarland said, he has spent a full year working on Fyre Fest II, with more than seven months to go. The first iteration of Fyre Fest promised ticket buyers luxury villas and gourmet food at what was supposed to be an extravagant music festival in the Bahamas. In August 2023, the first drop of 100 presale tickets for Fyre Fest II (at $499 apiece) sold out within a day, even though its website at the time offered no lineup, no specific location and no details about accommodations.

The popular mukbang YouTuber, known for eating enormous amounts of food on camera, fooled the internet by completing a secret weight loss journey while uploading old videos to mask his progress. Nikocado Avocado, whose real name is Nicholas Perry, revealed his new look — a drastically slimmer appearance compared with his look in his other recent YouTube videos — to millions of subscribers Friday. It drew a flurry of speculation around whether he could have achieved such extreme weight loss in the months since his most recent uploads, all of which showed him at a considerably larger size. I edited the videos so that they would appear recent, allowing me to focus on healing my body behind the scenes,” Perry wrote in an email. “While everybody pointed and laughed at me for over-consuming food, I was in total control the entire time,” Perry wrote.

Thailand is working on a new game plan to boost foreigner arrivals and increase tourism spending: casinos. The strategy has worked for Macao — which has overtaken Las Vegas as the world's largest gambling hub — and Singapore, with two successful 14-year-old casinos. If Thailand's draft bill gets passed into law, the country could be Macao and Singapore's largest competitor by the end of the decade, industry watchers told CNBC. If the law gets passed, Thailand's casinos could generate 187 billion Thai baht ($5.5 billion) in revenues, or 1% of the country's GDP, according to Maybank research. The Thai economy grew 1.9% in 2023, and is expected to grow 2.7% this year, the finance ministry said.

In the court document filed Monday, Sheil denied allegations of copyright infringement made in Gifford’s lawsuit. In her lawsuit, Gifford alleges that Sheil had blocked her on Instagram and TikTok in January 2023 after the two met for a photo shoot collaboration. In her lawsuit, Gifford listed multiple examples of Sheil’s posts that she argues are similar to her own and shared screenshots of the examples as exhibits. “Neutral colors have been in for some time,” Sheil’s attorneys argue, citing Chip and Joanna Gaines’ HGTV programs and celebrities such as Hailey Bieber, who tap into the same aesthetic. The previously nondescript city in the eastern Chinese province of Shandong became one of China’s hottest spots for domestic tourism last year thanks to its affordable and juicy skewered meat. They’re known as “special forces travelers” because, like soldiers, they move from one checkpoint to another under incredibly tight schedules, often over weekends or short holidays. For the first half of this year, 29.22 million foreign nationals entered and exited, according to the latest figures. But the flash-mob-style approach of “special forces travelers” – switching from one community to the next – has called into question whether that type of domestic tourism is sustainable in the long term. Pan Wenbo, also from Beijing, said his favorite spots included Xi’an, home of the Terracotta Warriors, and Datong, a northern Chinese city known for ancient Buddhist architecture - both offering more affordable accommodation and food.
