Searching for something to look forward to in the last light of summer, the fall movie schedule beckons. When the sun sets too early, what better refuge than the movies, where Annette Bening is playing Diana Nyad (October), Colman Domingo plays Bayard Rustin (November) and Timothée Chalamet is Willy Wonka (December)? Some studios pushed their big theatrical releases to 2024 while the ongoing actors’ strike prevents stars from promoting films. Peter Dinklage, Anne Hathaway and Marisa Tomei star in Rebecca Miller’s romantic comedy “She Came to Me,” about a composer who’s having trouble composing. That one’s set in my neighborhood, so I’m presold on it.

Marine researchers found a mysterious golden orb deep on the Alaskan seafloor. It's not entirely surprising, then, that deep-sea explorers just found something entirely new during an Alaskan expedition. But this particular object, what looks like the remains of some type of golden orb or egg, surprised scientists. The orb could be an egg case or sponge, but Candio isn't ruling out "something more strange." "Dune" was one of the most anticipated films on the late 2023 schedule. "Dune: Part Two" will now debut on March 15, a date that had been reserved for Warner Bros film "Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire." As a result, an animated "Lord of the Rings" film that had been set for April was moved to December. Other major films on the 2023 schedule at the moment include Walt Disney's (DIS.N) "The Marvels," a Lionsgate (LGFa.N) prequel to "The Hunger Games," and "Wonka," another Warner Bros film that also stars Chalamet.

This is especially true when it comes to specialty materials, like the 6 by 4½-foot sheets of neoprene from which Mr. Jones makes his couture-level surf suits. It would not be unreasonable to call Mr. Jones, 42, the Willy Wonka of wet suits. A self-taught designer and tailor, he has sewn wet suits for surf legends like Gerry Lopez, Mickey Muñoz, Skip Frye and L.J. Under the label Jonesea, he crafts wet suits in colors like goldenrod and merlot, and in cheetah and tie-dye prints. The suit retailed for $3,900 — significantly more than the Jonesea label suits, which start around $300.

CNN —The Roald Dahl Museum in England, founded by the widow of the children’s author, has acknowledged his racism was “undeniable and indelible.”Dahl, who died in 1990, was the creator of characters such as Matilda, the BFG, Fantastic Mr. Fox, Willy Wonka and the Twits. Now the museum, based in the village of Great Missenden in Buckinghamshire where Dahl lived, has posted a statement on its website to say that it “fully” supports an apology released by the Dahl family and Roald Dahl Story Company in 2020 for the author’s antisemitic views. The museum adds that it “condemns all racism directed at any group or individual.”Based in Great Missenden in Buckinghamshire, where Dahl lived, the museum has condemned the author's racism. The chocolatier and torturer of naughty children is getting the prequel treatment in a new film starring Timothée Chalamet, coming to cinemas in December. Chalamet steps into shoes previously filled by Gene Wilder in 1971 and Johnny Depp in 2005. Speaking in London ahead of the teaser trailer release, King promised an all singing, all dancing Chalamet and a film that “answers all the questions you never had” about Wonka. The director shared that he’d accessed Dahl’s personal archives and read early drafts of the novel, gleaning ideas from there. CNN and Warner Bros. Pictures are units of Warner Bros.

Hit and missOf course, quality is a big factor in a film's box office success, too. That pullback has already begun with the 2023 summer movie season. Starting the first Friday in May and running until Labor Day weekend, the summer movie season typically represents 40% of all movie ticket sales for the year. So far through July 2, the summer box office has tallied $1.88 billion. In summer 2022, the box office got a boost from Tom Cruise's "Top Gun: Maverick," a Paramount and Skydance feature.

Reddit came along and said, oh, we need to protect Reddit from the rise of these large language models. So I don’t think they’re totally out of the woods. But I want to challenge you on this, because I don’t necessarily think that it’s a bad thing if we have past peak trust and safety.

How MrBeast Became the Willy Wonka of YouTube

Compared with the strange and compelling creatures on display elsewhere on YouTube, it can be hard to understand precisely what’s appealing about MrBeast. Eligible creators on the platform earn around half of the revenue from advertising that YouTube sells against their videos. Even within this context, Donaldson stands out for his dedication to understanding how YouTube works. For most of his teenage years, “I woke up, I studied YouTube, I studied videos, I studied filmmaking, I went to bed and that was my life,” Donaldson once told Bloomberg. “I hardly had any friends because I was so obsessed with YouTube,” he said on “The Joe Rogan Experience” last year.

Why Should Charles III Be King?

Eli Lilly’s golden ticket is a regrettable winner

NEW YORK, May 3 (Reuters Breakingviews) - Eli Lilly’s (LLY.N) Mounjaro might turn out to be the biggest selling drug ever. The pharmaceutical giant is maximizing the diabetes treatment’s gain by using a golden ticket to speed its U.S. approval for use in a possibly bigger market, obesity. Lilly’s peak sales for treating obesity might be about 10 times as high, Jefferies analysts estimate. At the industry multiple of 5 times revenue, that would pad its $535 billion market value by $30 billion. Lilly may have secured a Willy Wonka-like golden ticket that allows its obesity drug to reach customers quicker.

Killing off projects had become something of a tradition at Kittyhawk, the secretive flying-car startup launched by the Google cofounder Larry Page. Larry Page has used his Google money to found a series of flying car companies with one common goal: "to free the world of traffic." Interpreting "Larry-isms" or "learning to speak Larry" were essential skills for any Kittyhawk employee who wanted to retain their sanity.
The CEO of a Scottish brewery said he paid over $500,000 to competition winners over a misleading advert. Brewdog claimed winners of a competition would get "solid gold" beer cans in social media posts. Some of Brewdog's tweets during the competition claimed that the beer cans were "solid gold," a claim that was incorrect. At least 25 winners complained to the Advertising Standards Agency after realizing the cans were not made of solid gold, but mostly composed of brass. "When I contacted them they told me the 'solid gold' claim was an error," he said.

ONTARIO, Calif.—The unsolicited proposal from Elon Musk’s tunnel-building venture arrived in January 2020. To the local transportation authority, it felt like finding Willy Wonka’s golden ticket. Officials had started planning for a street-level rail connection between booming Ontario International Airport and a commuter train station 4 miles away, with an estimated cost north of $1 billion. For just $45 million, Mr. Musk’s Boring Co. offered to instead build an underground tunnel through which travelers could zip back and forth in autonomous electric vehicles.

Warner Bros posted a third-quarter loss of $2.3 billion, or 95 cents a share, which includes $1.5 billion in pre-tax restructuring charges. Warner Bros Discovery, home to hit franchises such as "Batman" and "Euphoria," added 2.8 million new streaming subscribers in the third quarter, bringing its total to 94.9 million. A merger of HBO Max and Discovery+ will debut on an accelerated timetable, in spring of 2023.
Fewer job openings may sound bad, but in this moment it's a good sign for the economy. But chairs started being pulled away at a much faster pace in August, which could give job seekers a wake-up call. "If there are 100 chairs and 50 workers, workers are cool, man!" Companies are putting up record job openings, but they're not saying when — or even if — they'll fill them. That's frustrated some job seekers as they apply to multiple roles and never hear back.

As part of the next rollout of features, Robinson tells me that Cryptovoxels will allow users to sell custom dances.
