The Wall Street Journal reporter greeted his waiting colleagues with a wide grin and open arms. In the middle of the emotional scene that unfolded on the tarmac at Joint Base Andrews late Thursday was President Biden. Hours earlier, Mr. Biden had triumphantly announced that his administration’s diplomatic efforts had secured the release of three American prisoners held by Russia. “It feels wonderful,” Mr. Biden told reporters. And for Mr. Biden, they provided a seeming vindication of the type of patient, multilateral diplomacy that he proudly practices but that has so far proved unable to halt wars in Gaza and Ukraine.

Kid-led birthday parties allow kids to practice practical skills every step of the way, taking work off the parents' plates. There are different expectations with park parties because people can bring potluck dishes. My kids decorated the gift bags for the park party — a wonderful rainy Sunday afternoon activity. The bunny paper crafts, purchased online for $10, kept the kids just as busy as the mall art center projects.

CNN —Chrissy Teigen has shared that her six-year-old son Miles has been diagnosed with type 1 diabetes. Teigen, who has four children with EGOT-winner John Legend, wrote about their son’s diagnosis on Instagram after some commenters noticed that Miles appeared to be wearing a diabetes monitor in a photo with Teigen and his sister, Luna, 8, at the Paris Olympics. “A lot of you noticed something a little special about a photo I posted a few days ago,” she wrote. “You noticed his type-1 diabetes monitor and extended so much love and encouragement in every way possible.”Teigen said Miles was diagnosed just a couple of weeks ago, when he was “sick, in the hospital” with an unrelated infection. Type 1 diabetes is “a disease of high blood sugars due to a deficiency of insulin production,” according to Dr. Otis Brawley, Chief Medical Officer of the American Cancer Society.

Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump said Monday that while he "probably" will debate Vice President Kamala Harris, he "could also make a case" for avoiding a face-to-face confrontation with his likely Democratic opponent. Before that debate, Trump had repeatedly challenged Biden to face him "anytime, anywhere, anyplace." But when asked about debating Harris, he struck a different tone. "We'll see if Trump shows," Harris campaign spokesman Michael Tyler said in a statement. While Trump told reporters last week he would be willing to debate Harris "multiple times," he also said that he was "not thrilled about ABC."

The Olympics Have Arrived

I speak, first, to my mother, who tells me about her week and the deteriorating state of our aging relatives. CNN —A large, pink, inflatable man, created by the Chinese contemporary artist Yue Minjun, has divided opinion in a small town in Wales. “The image represents the boredom of Chinese society during the rise of consumerism and economic reform in the early 1990s,” the centuries-old Ruthin School said in a post on Facebook. Yue’s work, in particular his many grinning self-portraits, have become among the most recognizable pieces of Chinese contemporary art. She said the school’s students “love it” are “really quite fond” of the large inflatable man. One letter dated July 8, 1981 – three weeks before the royal wedding – was handwritten by Diana on Buckingham Palace stationary, telling Collison about the pre-wedding preparations.
