Elon Musk will interview former President Donald Trump Monday evening on X, the latest collaboration between two men whose unlikely alliance could be a significant factor shaping the final weeks of the presidential race. Ahead of the event, Musk planned to perform "some system scaling tests" to gauge the X platform's streaming capabilities ahead of the event with Trump. The Trump interview is Musk's latest high profile foray into the 2024 presidential race. The PAC set out to mobilize 800,000 voters for Trump in critical swing states.

U.S. Vice President and Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris speaks at her campaign headquarters in Wilmington, Delaware, on July 22, 2024. Vice President Kamala Harris is catching up to former President Donald Trump on the number of voters who trust her handling of the economy, according to a new Financial Times/Michigan Ross poll. The monthly survey found that 42% of voters trust Harris on economic issues, one percentage point more than the Republican presidential nominee. The most recent CNBC All-America Economic Survey, for example, found voters think they will be financially better off under Trump than Harris by a 2-to-1 margin. Trump often seizes on voters' economic pessimism as a political tactic, working to turn economic danger signs into narratives of full-blown catastrophe, attributable to the Biden-Harris administration's policies.

DuPont's water business DuPont is considered a leader in purification and specialty-separation technologies that generates cleaner water for industries, governments, and communities. Arun Viswanathan, analyst at RBC Capital Markets, characterizes Dupont's water business' next-generation products as being "at the top of the technology pyramid." Dupont's water business is the smallest of the three companies that will be created by the breakup. As this exercise shows, DuPont's water business as a standalone firm would certainly deserve that compared to some. With only days to consider a range of contenders, Ms. Harris and her team were inundated with unsolicited advice — much of it public — about whom she should pick. Andy Beshear of Kentucky, who has also been vetted by the Harris team, appeared at a Harris campaign fund-raiser in Chicago. Mr. Biden was at home in Wilmington, Del., over the weekend while Ms. Harris interviewed prospective running mates in Washington. A White House spokesman did not immediately respond to a request for comment about whether he had spoken to Ms. Harris as she finished her deliberations. Once she chooses, Ms. Harris will spend much of the next week with her running mate.

Iran’s Revolutionary Guard said a short-range projectile was behind the killing of Hamas political chief Ismail Haniyeh and accused the United States of supporting the attack which it blamed on Israel, state TV reported Saturday. “The action was designed and carried out by the Zionist regime and supported by the U.S.,” said the Guard’s statement. The Summary Many young climate advocates see Kamala Harris as stronger on environmental issues than Joe Biden. President Joe Biden may have passed the United States’ most significant climate legislation ever, but many young environmental activists say they see Kamala Harris as stronger on the issue. But several young climate activists ages 16 to 29 said for them, the expansion of the fossil fuel industry during Biden’s presidency has clouded those successes. Harris’ young supporters have highlighted the settlements she secured as California attorney general with Chevron, BP and ConocoPhillips over their handling of hazardous materials. Sunrise Movement protesters gather near Vice President Harris' Brentwood home on April 14, calling on her to urge President Biden to declare a climate emergency.

The infants had specific physical birth defects: cleft palate, unusually small heads, drooping eyelids, webbed toes and joints that weren’t fully developed. Birth defects linked to fentanyl by geneticists at Nemours Children’s Health in Wilmington, Del. But despite a rise in fentanyl misuse, even during pregnancy, there is no indication of a concurrent rise in birth defects. And most babies exposed to fentanyl in utero aren’t born with the defects that are hallmarks of the fetal fentanyl syndrome.

U.S. Vice President Kamala Harris and second gentleman Douglas Emhoff descend from Air Force Two in Wilmington, DE, U.S., July 22, 2024. Vice President Kamala Harris' personal financial records are under fresh scrutiny now that she is running for the highest office in the United States. Experts say recent tax filings show she and her husband, Second Gentleman Douglas Emhoff, have largely kept their finances simple during her years as vice president. Yet that approach may have cost the couple as they left unclaimed tax savings through additional deductions, as well as other missed financial strategies. Harris' office did not respond to a request for comment by press time.

Vice President Kamala Harris, who formally won enough delegates to secure the Democratic Party nomination on Friday, is remaking a campaign hierarchy originally built to re-elect President Biden by adding several new advisers to the top ranks of her staff, including David Plouffe, who managed Barack Obama’s first presidential run. The hirings and promotions continue a whirlwind period for Ms. Harris, who is expected to meet in person with prospective candidates to be her running mate this weekend. The list is said to have narrowed to a half-dozen and the accelerated vetting process, conducted by an outside law firm, is now complete. Her campaign has suggested it will unveil her running mate by Tuesday evening, when the new ticket will hold a rally in Philadelphia to kick off a five-day battleground state tour. Many of the other new additions to Ms. Harris’s team are veterans of the Obama and Hillary Clinton campaigns.

A Delaware judge on Friday questioned lawyers for Tesla about why the company asked shareholders to vote on a $55 billion pay package for its chief executive, Elon Musk, after she had struck it down in January. The judge, Chancellor Kathaleen St. J. McCormick of the Delaware Court of Chancery, noted at a hearing in Wilmington that there was no legal precedent for the company’s decision, which led to an overwhelming shareholder vote in favor of the compensation package in June. “This has never been done before,” she said in an exchange with a lawyer representing Mr. Musk and Tesla’s directors. “There is no Delaware law on this, correct?”The lawyer, David E. Ross, acknowledged there was no exact precedent for having shareholders overturn a judge’s decision in similar cases. But he asserted that the June vote showed that Tesla’s shareholders were willing to award Mr. Musk the package even after being provided a lot more information about how it had been devised.

CNN —Confronted with a barrage of negative social media posts from former President Donald Trump aimed at his wife, second gentleman Doug Emhoff eschewed machismo or defensiveness. “That’s all he got?” he said Tuesday of the attacks on Vice President Kamala Harris, the new and historic presumptive Democratic presidential nominee. And Monday, he leaned into a cheerleader role as he introduced the vice president at her Wilmington, Delaware, campaign headquarters. So I think that gives you a fairly good indication of if he now would move into a precedent-setting first gentleman role,” McBride said. “This first gentleman role is being a supportive spouse and understanding better than anyone the administration’s goals and how to go about best achieving that,” she said.

CNN —The five days since Vice President Kamala Harris’ campaign launched at warp speed have remade the 2024 race – and given Democrats new hope of preventing a second Donald Trump presidency. Fundraising exploded, with Harris’ campaign saying she raised $126 million between Sunday afternoon and Tuesday evening. And Democrats were more eager to devote their own time to working to elect Harris: More than 100,000 people signed up to volunteer for her bid, and more than 2,000 applied for campaign jobs, Harris campaign chair Jen O’Malley Dillon said in a Wednesday memo. The strength of Harris’ launch has at times surprised even the former Biden campaign staffers who on Sunday suddenly found themselves working for what was converted into the Harris campaign. Biden’s campaign believed his path to 270 Electoral College votes ran through the “blue wall” states – Michigan, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin.

In the three days since President Biden announced he was quitting the 2024 race, Mr. Trump has entered foreign territory. But within 24 hours, Democratic leaders unofficially crowned Ms. Harris and stamped out any notable opposition. His team considered mounting legal challenges to her campaign committee to make it harder for Ms. Harris to hit the ground running. And Mr. Trump is still cycling through nicknames for Ms. Harris — a sign that he hasn’t yet figured out how he intends to portray her. And some Trump campaign officials have telegraphed plans to “Willie Horton” Ms. Harris.

New York CNN —A toxic mix of surging rental rates and vanishing support for renters has catapulted evictions above pre-pandemic levels in some major cities. Evictions have increased most significantly in Sun Belt cities where housing affordability has worsened and where renters often have fewer protections. Other cities, including Minneapolis (+44%) and Columbus, Ohio (+37%), are also experiencing higher levels of evictions than before the pandemic. Three-quarters of the 34 cities tracked by the Eviction Lab had evictions increase between 2022 and 2023. The vast majority of evictions are for issues related to nonpayment of rent, according to the Eviction Lab.

Her multi-hour phone blitz to Democratic Party power players on Sunday hinted at an operation primed ahead of time but that was kept secret and didn’t leak. The vice president has shown signs of improving her political skills recently, but that’s never been her forte. In a memo to reporters, the Trump campaign previewed a blistering assault to come on Harris. Harris is the least popular vice president in history – which is no surprise given her terrible record,” the memo said. The question now is whether Harris, who has exhibited considerable political liabilities as vice president, has the skills, staying power and luck to take advantage.

But now it has to retool to elect Kamala Harris, who’s a Black and South Asian woman in the year 2024,” said one aide at campaign headquarters. CNN —President Joe Biden says he is not seeking reelection in a letter posted to his official account on X. “It has been the greatest honor of my life to serve as your President,” Biden wrote. “My very first decision as the party nominee in 2020 was to pick Kamala Harris as my Vice President,” Biden wrote. It’s also the latest shocking development in a highly charged political campaign that has included an attempt on Trump’s life. The mood in the White House and at Biden’s campaign headquarters in Wilmington had turned sour.

Nothing less than the future of America is at stake. The assassination attempt over the weekend has complicated President Biden’s argument now that former President Donald J. Trump has gone from being a longtime instigator of political violence to a victim of it. Vance of Ohio, instantly blamed Mr. Biden, citing his sharp rhetoric. But the images of Mr. Trump with blood streaked across his face after being grazed by a would-be assassin’s bullet raise the question of how far language should go in a heated campaign. At the same time, Mr. Biden and his team have made clear that they will not back off efforts to demonstrate that Mr. Trump is a budding dictator who is dangerous to the country.
