SentinelOne researchers traced the front companies to a larger set of organizations based in China. One American entrepreneur told CNN that, according to the FBI, his company had unwittingly sent tens of thousands of dollars to the North Korean government. It’s not the first time that researchers have traced North Korean IT worker operations to northeast China. CNN reported in April on a North Korean computer server that contained illustrations that appeared to have been produced for US animation studios. Logs from the North Korean computer server showed multiple visits from internet connections in northeast China.

CNN —The avian flu virus isolated from a hospitalized teenager in Vancouver has mutations in key areas that could help the virus spread more easily in humans, scientists say. But scientists say the genetic changes are a reminder of what the virus is capable of if it continues to spread. The H5N1 bird flu virus that infected the teen, who is in critical but stable condition, is not the same strain that is transmitting in dairy cattle in the United States. The three mutations are at positions in the virus’ genome that Bloom and other scientists have determined would allow it to attach more easily to human cells. Most of the human H5N1 infections reported in the United States have had red, inflamed eyes as an early symptom, suggesting that’s where the virus entered the body.

CNN —American Airlines is expanding its new boarding technology that stops passengers from cutting in line during boarding to over 100 airports nationwide before Thanksgiving. Passengers who board before their assigned group will trigger technology that makes a sound to alert the gate agent. “In these instances, the American team member will invite the customer to rejoin the line when their boarding group is called,” the airline said in a release. The airline has received positive feedback from both customers and workers, according to Julie Rath, senior vice president at American. Among the 100 airports that will see the new technology is Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport in Atlanta, the world’s busiest airport based on passenger traffic.

Melitta, the manufacturer of the $3,000 espresso machine, informed customers of a problem with the equipment, forcing McDonald’s to temporarily decommission them while the issue is resolved. As a result, McDonald’s customers can’t order its espresso-based drinks, including frappés and Americanos. Indians have become the biggest group of international students in the U.S., surpassing Chinese students this year for the first time in 15 years. New data released by the State Department in conjunction with the Institute of International Education shows that there are now 331,602 Indian international students in the U.S. (a 23% growth from last academic year), compared with 277,398 Chinese international students (a 4.2% decline). South Korea, Canada and Taiwan follow distantly as the next most common countries of origin for international students, with numbers all well under 50,000. Long the most populous at U.S. colleges and universities, Chinese international students have been falling in number every year since the pandemic. Nebraska’s Dan Osborn is returning to work Tuesday as a steamfitter after his unsuccessful Senate run, but his political career isn’t over.
