Tapping into people's passions can inspire emotional connections with consumers. In fact, our survey data identifies eight key roles that brands can play to either accelerate consumers' passions or alleviate their frustrations — one of which is fostering shared connections around their passions. A prime example of this is how Nike taps into peoples' passion for wellness, which is ranked the second highest among those we surveyed, while strengthening community bonds. Neuromarketing can derive an abundance of data-driven insights from study participants, allowing us to discern consumers' emotional associations with logos, messages, storylines, colors, and more. Inspiring an emotional response is an incredibly challenging task for marketers at a time when consumers feel bombarded by messages.

None of the top five fantasy players coming into the season based on average draft position is in the top 48 in fantasy scoring. (The fantasy scoring numbers here are provided by TruMedia, and the average draft position statistics were compiled by Fantasy Pros.) Aaron Jones (15.7 fantasy ppg) has been a good pick but left early Sunday with a hip injury. The only bright spot for Las Vegas is rookie tight end Brock Bowers, who is 76th in fantasy scoring (13.3). REUTERS/Ken CedenoThe U.S. Department of Justice late Tuesday made recommendations for Google's search engine business practices, indicating that it was considering a possible breakup of the tech giant as an antitrust remedy. The DOJ also said it was "considering behavioral and structural remedies that would prevent Google from using products such as Chrome, Play, and Android to advantage Google search and Google search-related products and features — including emerging search access points and features, such as artificial intelligence — over rivals or new entrants." Kent Walker, Google's president of global affairs, said the company plans to appeal the ruling and highlighted the court's emphasis on the high quality of Google's search products, which the judge also noted in his ruling. In the second quarter, "Google Search & Other" accounted for $48.5 billion in revenue, or 57% of Alphabet's total revenue. The company holds 90% of search market share.

CNN —For months before the 1997 premiere of “The Puppy Episode,” the groundbreaking episode of Ellen DeGeneres’ hit sitcom “Ellen,” rumors swirled that the comedian and her fictional counterpart would come out as gay. Until “The Puppy Episode,” the character had rarely dated and mostly resisted romance, deviating from sitcom conventions of the time and frustrating network executives. Ellen Morgan never did get that puppy, but the episode made history as Ellen became one of the first out gay lead characters on TV. “That’s why it worked — because it was real.”How ‘The Puppy Episode’ got madeThe making of “The Puppy Episode” started with DeGeneres. Los Angeles (AP) — Prosecutors in Los Angeles are reviewing new evidence in the case of Erik and Lyle Menendez to determine whether they should be serving life sentences for killing their parents in their Beverly Hills mansion more than 35 years ago, the city’s district attorney said Thursday. Los Angeles County District Attorney George Gascón said during a news conference that attorneys for Erik Menendez, 53, and his 56-year-old brother, Lyle Menendez, have asked a court to vacate their conviction. Gascón said there is no question the brothers committed the murders, but that his office will be reviewing new evidence and will make a decision on whether it warrants a resentencing. The new evidence presented in a petition includes a letter written by Erik Menendez that his attorneys say corroborates the allegations that he was sexually abused by his father. Cliff Gardner, an attorney for the brothers, said they are pleased by the district attorney’s decision.

A federal judge on Wednesday unsealed a redacted motion by Special Counsel Jack Smith detailing evidence against former President Donald Trump in his criminal election interference case in Washington, D.C. Judge Tanya Chutkan unsealed the filing less than five weeks before the Republican nominee Trump will face Vice President Kamala Harris, the Democratic nominee, in the 2024 presidential election. If Trump wins the election, he will have the power to order the Department of Justice to dismiss the criminal case against him. "The defendant asserts that he is immune from prosecution for his criminal scheme to overturn the 2020 presidential election because, he claims, it entailed official conduct. Four days later, Pence in another private lunch allegedly tried to urge Trump to accept the election results and run again in 2024.

Mark Robinson, Lieutenant Governor of North Carolina and candidate for Governor, delivers remarks prior to Republican presidential nominee former President Donald Trump speaking at a campaign event at Harrah's Cherokee Center on August 14, 2024 in Asheville, North Carolina. The political network largely funded by billionaire industrialist Charles Koch has been quietly backing North Carolina Lt. Gov. Mark Robinson despite a litany of controversies, according to records uncovered by CNBC. Though Robinson has denied he wrote the scores of posts, at least four of his top aides from his North Carolina gubernatorial campaign resigned within days of the report's publication.
