5 big questions about how tech will look under Trump
  + stars: | 2024-11-29 | by ( Clare Duffy | ) edition.cnn.com   time to read: +10 min
He sought to swat down legal protections for tech platforms. Many Republicans are eager to see the Trump administration address what they see as “censorship” of right-leaning voices by many mainstream social media platforms. That could mean reforming or reinterpreting Section 230, which shields tech platforms from liability for their users’ posts and allows the platforms to moderate content as they see fit. In essence, Carr could attempt to pass a rule that would make it possible to sue tech platforms under that new interpretation. Ultimately, that could mean hamstringing tech companies’ efforts to reduce hateful or false content on their platforms.

Turkey wants the F-35s and may be willing to move the Russian air defenses that triggered the ban. Until five years ago, Turkey had planned to buy 100 of Lockheed Martin's F-35 stealth jets to modernize its air force. According to Bloomberg, Turkey may agree to restrict its Russian S-400s air defenses in return for the US lifting sanctions. Advertisement"So, it will remain to be seen if Trump can overcome these institutional hurdles to a sale to Turkey," Bohl told BI. The intervening Ukraine war, where Russian S-400s suffered losses, could reduce the value Turkey sees in them.

Hong Kong CNN —One called China an “existential threat.” Another called for a “whole-of-society effort” to confront China and was sanctioned – twice – by Beijing. “If you look at Trump’s team, most, if not all, are China hawks. His nominee for secretary of state, Sen. Marco Rubio, is known in China as the “anti-China vanguard” and currently sanctioned by Beijing. “Many of the hardliners indeed want a full confrontation and decoupling with China, but is that truly Trump’s objective for US-China relations? That western relocation was “wildly disruptive” and should serve as a “cautionary tale” for the incoming Trump administration, said Tracy Stone-Manning, the Biden administration’s BLM director. Project 2025, a conservative blueprint written by dozens of former Trump administration officials, recommended returning the BLM headquarters to the West. Most BLM staffers already worked in states outside of DC, but a disproportionate level of senior staffers worked in the nation’s capital. But an inspector general report later found that Trump administration officials had misled Congress in statements about the relocation. Future efforts to move federal offices out of DC could lead more federal workers to unionize.

Meditating is a proven way to reduce stress, improve sleep and keep you engaged in your work and relationships. While a regular meditation practice might sound intimidating, it can actually be quite simple and take up very little of your day, according to Dr. Esther Sternberg . "You do that a few times, and that will immediately put a brake on the stress response," Sternberg says. The goal of the practice is to "feel gratitude for everything you see, all the trees, all the houses, whatever you see, feel gratitude, and feel gratitude for your loved ones." "When you're in a compassion state, you're releasing dopamine, you're releasing endorphins, all these feel-good molecules," she says.

Opinion | What to Expect in a Second Trump Term

To the Editor:When Donald Trump retakes the reins of the presidency in January, he will face a choice of which path to take. The first is to use the office as a cudgel, punishing his perceived enemies and rewarding his most ardent supporters, enriching himself and his family in the process. The second path is more challenging, but it’s one that could secure Mr. Trump a vaunted place in history. Imagine a presidency in which he seeks to uplift the most vulnerable and implement programs that benefit all Americans, not just those who voted for him. Admittedly, this approach would require humility and restraint, qualities Mr. Trump is not necessarily known for, but if he did embrace them, he could astonish even his harshest critics and leave a legacy that transcends personal ambition.

It uses genetic data … to see if having certain genes linked to depression also makes people more likely to have menstrual pain. The findings help expand the important, and often overlooked, discussion around mental health and period pain. Below, experts elaborate on newfound and known associations between period pain and depression, why a genetic cause can’t be inferred from a genetic connection, and ways you can manage depressive symptoms and painful periods. On the other hand, experts noted that the opposite relationship — period pain or reproductive shifts preceding depression — has occurred in both human and animal research and in clinical practice. Additionally, methods experts know to be effective in treating period pain can also improve depression, Amies Oelschlager said — such as exercise, yoga, stress-reduction techniques, dietary changes and good sleep quality and quantity.
