New York CNN —Press freedom groups sounded the alarm Wednesday on the potential dangers facing journalists under a second Trump administration, denouncing threats from the president-elect and his associates to undermine the news media. “On the campaign trail and during his previous administration, President-elect Donald Trump has frequently deployed violent language and threats against the media. His election to a second term in office marks a dangerous moment for American journalism and global press freedom,” Reporters Without Borders said. In the run-up to Election Day, Trump repeatedly threatened the Fourth Estate, often employing extreme and authoritarian rhetoric. In the wake of Tuesday’s election, press freedom advocates remain concerned about the longer-term implications of legal threats that journalists could face.

Democrats called for a full party reckoning on Wednesday, as they attempted to pick up the pieces of their shattered organization a day after Vice President Kamala Harris’ loss to former President Donald Trump. Sen. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt., put out a statement blasting "big money interests and well-paid consultants who control the Democratic Party." "It should come as no great surprise that a Democratic Party which has abandoned working class people would find that the working class has abandoned them," he said Wednesday. In 2023, the U.S. Supreme Court upheld an earlier ruling stating that Alabama’s district map likely discriminated against Black voters and mandated redrawing the 2nd District. The new area has a majority of Black voters — 47.6%, compared to 45% who are white. His late father, Michael Figures, was an Alabama state senator and his mother serves in that role now. As Election Day finally arrives, election officials, legal experts and researchers are bracing for a flood of disinformation and legal claims as vote counting begins. The final week of the campaign featured three dynamics that could lead to a protracted legal dispute if the results are close, legal experts said. Election experts say that if a clear winner emerges quickly and voting proceeds without major disruptions, large numbers of Americans may have faith in the results. A misleading advertisement from the Election Integrity Network says “The Glitch Is In” alongside a carousel of news coverage of such procedural Election Day issues. The Election Integrity Network’s founder, Cleta Mitchell, promotes her thousand-strong group as a kind of “national neighborhood watch.”Researchers also point to a new kind of infrastructure around documenting and sharing such rumors on Election Day.

Even Warren Buffett thinks his stock is too expensive

CNN —Warren Buffett’s Berkshire Hathaway has over $325 billion in cash on hand. Berkshire Hathaway was a net seller of stocks across its portfolio that quarter and grew its cash-on-hand to record amounts. Berkshire Hathaway’s actions signal to investors that its stock might be overvalued, Cathy Seifert, an analyst at CFRA Research, told CNN. Buffett will repurchase shares when he thinks the price is “below Berkshire’s intrinsic value, conservatively determined,” according to Berkshire Hathaway’s regulatory filings. “All this suggests that Buffett has serious concerns about the economic backdrop and the current state of the stock market,” Mould said in a note.

Let’s get one thing straight: The polls can’t tell us who is going to win the presidential election. The race is that close and uncertain, and polls in previous election cycles have been that far off the mark. With those caveats out of the way, let’s not ignore the consistent storylines in the polls that have defined the political forces shaping the election. It's not the -33 net rating he had heading into his first presidential election in 2016, but it's not what successful presidential candidates have typically enjoyed, either. And whether he was running against Biden or against Harris, Trump's biggest issue advantage has long been on the border and controlling immigration.

Voting systems: How we know the election is secure

Why social media shouldn’t be your therapist

It’s easy to see why: There’s a shortage of mental health providers, and it’s often expensive and difficult to get an appointment, whereas social media is at everyone’s fingertips. But it’s generally not a good idea to try to diagnose your problems on social media. Misleading posts and misdiagnosesSelf-help posts on social media often serve up simple solutions to complex problems. That’s why experts said answers are likelier to be found on an old-fashioned therapist’s sofa than social media.

Boeing workers vote to accept deal, end strike

New York CNN —Striking workers at embattled plane maker Boeing voted Monday to accept the company’s most recent offer, ending the costliest strike in the United States in more than 25 years. The International Association of Machinists (IAM) said rank-and-file members voted by 59% to approve the deal. But the deal did not restore the traditional pension plan they lost in 2014 from their previous labor deal. But despite the deep financial problems, Boeing had little choice but to settle the strike and get the workers back on the job. GOP senators and top aides say the race could go either way. Scott, who is a McConnell critic, has been more willing to fall in line with Trump than Cornyn or Thune over the last several years. Both Thune and Cornyn are closely politically aligned with the longtime GOP leader. Rachel Woolf for CNNA ‘crisis’ was hitting the cityAt first, Mike Johnston didn’t know about the Facebook message his wife had sent. In the weeks that followed, the Johnston family teamed up with another Denver family, who was trying to help Simaray’s sister, Saray, and her 5-year-old twins, Mathias and Laura. “Two or three people came up to buy it, and each time, she said, ‘No,’” Mike Johnston says.

“It could completely reshape our understanding of the solar system and of other planetary systems, and how we fit into that context. Brown and his colleague, planetary scientist Konstantin Batygin, reported having strong evidence of a hidden planet on the fringes of our solar system. “If you look at these bodies, their lifetimes are tiny compared to the age of the solar system,” Batygin said. “By now, we expected to have found many more of these extreme trans-Neptunian objects,” Sheppard said in an email. Finding a smaller planet would also spark excitement, Rice added, because every solar system planet is immensely useful for extrapolating information about the thousands of comparable exoplanets that researchers are uncovering across the galaxy.

Just 2% of voters say they’re unsure about the choice. Trump, meanwhile, leads among rural voters (75%-23%), white voters (56%-42%) and white voters without college degrees (64%-34%). This net gender gap of 34 points is larger than the 30-point gap in October’s NBC News poll. That’s a significant change from the final 2020 NBC News poll, when Biden was ahead of Trump by more than 20 points among these voters. And when it comes to the battle for Congress, 47% of voters say they prefer Democrats control Congress, while 46% want Republicans in charge.
