But perhaps there's a lesson to be learned from Detroit's approach — and from the other three teams remaining in the NFL playoffs. The Lions, Ravens, 49ers and Chiefs have all reached this point after making significant investments at positions that aren't always prioritized around the league. He's the highest-paid running back in the league based on average annual value, according to overthecap.com. “The middle of our defense especially are great players,” Ravens defensive coordinator Mike Macdonald said. The Lions took Jack Campbell — a middle linebacker.

Still, there's plenty of respect between the Baltimore coach and his counterpart this weekend: Kansas City's Andy Reid. This is Harbaugh's fourth AFC championship game with Baltimore and Reid's sixth in a row with Kansas City. Reid leads their head-to-head series 5-2 since he and Harbaugh went their separate ways during the former's tenure at the helm of the Philadelphia Eagles. "He was a great special teams coach, a great secondary coach and he’s been a great head coach. Reid also reached four NFC title games in a row in Philadelphia with Harbaugh on his staff.

And it will be the first time the Chiefs hit the road for a conference title game since Jan. 23, 1994, when Joe Montana was the quarterback and they lost 30-13 in Buffalo. That's the way I look at it.”That's the way Mahomes looks at it, too. They also won in Buffalo on Jan. 1, 1967, in the AFL championship game to reach the first Super Bowl, where they lost to the Packers of Vince Lombardi. Winning a conference title game on the road is hardly an easy endeavor, though. Home teams are 35-18 in NFC title games and 36-17 in the AFC championship game, where the Chiefs went 3-2 in the past five that were played in Kansas City.

They host the Detroit Lions, who haven’t reached this point in 32 years and have never played in a Super Bowl. 1 seeds are 34-14 in conference championship games, including 2-0 last season when the Chiefs went on to beat the Eagles in the Super Bowl. If the 49ers and Chiefs advance, it'll set up a Super Bowl rematch. The two-time NFL and Super Bowl MVP has embraced the challenge and now faces the league’s stingiest defense. ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. (AP) — Travis Kelce caught two touchdown passes from Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs advanced to their sixth straight AFC championship game with a 27-24 win over the Buffalo Bills on Sunday night. The defending Super Bowl champion Chiefs (13-6) move on to Baltimore to face Lamar Jackson and the conference’s top-seeded Ravens, who beat Houston 34-10 on Saturday. Baltimore defeated Kansas City 36-35 in their most recent regular-season matchup in Week 2 of the 2021 season. And the Chiefs ended Buffalo’s season for the third time in four years, including a 38-24 decision at Kansas City in the 2020 season AFC championship game. It was another disappointing finish for a Bills team that won its fourth consecutive AFC East title, and was on a six-game roll since a 20-17 win at Kansas City on Dec. 10.

BALTIMORE (AP) — The Houston Texans ended their season the same way they started it: with a loss in Baltimore. After going 3-13-1 a year ago, the Texans rode a terrific season by rookie quarterback C.J. “Proud of our guys for their effort throughout this entire season, for getting to this moment,” rookie coach DeMeco Ryans said. They deserved to win,” Stroud said. That all but signified the end for the youthful Texans, who had rookies accumulate 2,536 snaps on offense this season — second most in the NFL behind the Carolina Panthers.

BALTIMORE (AP) — Lamar Jackson threw two touchdown passes and ran for two scores, and the Baltimore Ravens pulled away in the second half for a 34-10 win over the Houston Texans on Saturday to advance to the AFC championship game. On one of his most productive rushing days of the season, Jackson helped the Ravens (14-4) take control in the third quarter after the teams entered the half tied at 10. Stroud had a solid, composed first half for Houston, the Texans (11-8) ultimately couldn't turn enough promising drives into points against an impressive Ravens defense. But on the first possession of the second half, Jackson guided Baltimore 55 yards in six plays and scored on a run up the middle. He’s had some up-and-down years through injury and offensive woes, but this season Jackson has been back to his best, leading a No. 1 playoff seed and, while the year ended in playoff disappointment, Jackson had delivered one of the best regular seasons ever by an NFL quarterback. Jackson speaks after winning the NFL MVP award at the end of the 2019 season. “To be honest with you, I really didn’t care for other teams, really,” Jackson told reporters during his signing press conference. That’s the accolade that I really want so bad.”And now, with a second NFL MVP almost certainly sewn up, don’t bet again Jackson lifting the Vince Lombardi Trophy on February 11.

The Jets have 21 days to activate Rodgers from the injured reserve list or he'll be sidelined the rest of the season. He said he needs to make it through consecutive practices and acknowledged the risks of playing and the potential of reinjuring the Achilles tendon. “I don’t feel like I’m competing against science when it comes to this rehab,” Rodgers said. Over the next few weeks, Rodgers said he needs to be able to move better in the pocket during practice. He already reached out to Dolphins linebacker Jaelan Phillips, who tore an Achilles tendon against the Jets last week.

CLEVELAND (AP) — The Cleveland Browns are signing former Super Bowl MVP quarterback Joe Flacco to their practice squad, a person familiar with the decision told The Associated Press on Sunday night. The addition of Flacco bolsters Cleveland's quarterback depth after Deshaun Watson was lost for the season with a shoulder fracture. The 38-year-old Flacco will give the Browns an established backup as well as a mentor for Thompson-Robinson, who went 24 of 43 for 165 yards and an interception against the Steelers. The Week 11 action concludes with the biggest game of the week – a Kelce vs. Kelce Super Bowl rematch. Jason Kelce’s Philadelphia Eagles will travel to Kansas City to take on Travis Kelce’s Chiefs in one of the most highly-anticipated matchups of the season – a Super Bowl LVII rematch and a potential Super Bowl LVIII preview. “I don’t need the Super Bowl to motivate me to beat my brother, or Andy Reid. I know what it takes now to be an NFL quarterback and not just be a college quarterback being in the NFL,” Thompson-Robinson told reporters. BALTIMORE (AP) — Lamar Jackson hurt an ankle and lost one of his top targets to a more severe injury. Jackson threw two touchdown passes in the second quarter — one of which came thanks to a fortuitous carom — and the Ravens beat Cincinnati 34-20 on Thursday night after the Bengals lost Joe Burrow to a wrist injury. Burrow left in the second quarter after throwing a touchdown pass and wasn't able to return. “That's like receiver one sometimes.”Ravens coach John Harbaugh announced after the game that Andrews' injury appears to be season-ending. Cincinnati won the division the past two years, when late-season injuries kept Jackson off the field for the Ravens.

Mandatory Credit: Tommy Gilligan-USA TODAY Sports Acquire Licensing RightsNov 15 (Reuters) - Cleveland Browns quarterback Deshaun Watson will undergo season-ending surgery on a broken bone in his throwing shoulder, the National Football League (NFL) team said on Wednesday in a move that deals a major blow to their playoff hopes. Watson had an MRI on Monday that revealed he had a displaced fracture to the glenoid in his right shoulder and team doctors determined he required immediate surgery to avoid further structural damage, the Browns said in a statement. According to the Browns, the 28-year-old Watson is expected to make a full recovery in time for the 2024 NFL season. Another MRI on Monday revealed Watson also suffered a high-ankle sprain during the Ravens game.

CLEVELAND (AP) — Browns quarterback Deshaun Watson will miss the rest of his second season in Cleveland with a fracture in his throwing shoulder, an injury that came in his best performance since joining the team following a controversial trade. Watson will undergo surgery to repair a non-displaced fracture in his right shoulder, which happened Sunday when he was hit in the first quarter at Baltimore. Now, Watson will have to work his way back from a shoulder injury with just three seasons left on his deal. Watson missed time earlier this season with a strained rotator cuff in his throwing shoulder, and it's not yet known if that injury contributed to the fracture. Coach Kevin Stefanski is expected to go with Walker the rest of the way, but the Browns could consider signing a veteran free agent.

(AP) — Baltimore Ravens coach John Harbaugh said Tuesday he's spoken to his brother, Jim, quite a bit, and he's proud of how the Michigan coach has handled the sign-stealing scandal that put the program under investigation. “His phones, his computers and all that stuff have been looked at, and he’s come through this thing with flying colors,” John Harbaugh said. “I don’t know what they are trying to get, but they don’t have anything of substance, and I just think I’m proud of him. His coaches love him, and he stands tall through all this.”Political Cartoons View All 1247 ImagesThe Big Ten said the suspension was meant to punish the university, not Jim Harbaugh.
