Harvard's president, Claudine Gay, resigned after conservative activists revealed she had plagiarized. But for Bill Ackman, the plagiarism wasn't only cause for Gay's immediate ouster as Harvard's president — it also warranted her total removal from its faculty. AdvertisementGay resigned as Harvard's president on Tuesday. One remains: Kornbluth, the president of MIT, where Oxman wrote her thesis and worked from 2010 to 2020. "Stay tuned @MIT," Ackman replied.

But ghost kitchens are now crashing. Ghost kitchens are stripped-down commercial kitchens with no dine-in option. Sometimes called cloud kitchens, dark kitchens or virtual kitchens, ghost kitchens fulfill online orders from delivery apps like Grubhub and Uber Eats. Ghost kitchens also offered big chains a way to test new menu concepts, items and brands at lower rents and with less labor. So restaurants have shut down their ghost kitchens and funding for the concept has dried up.

Every year, researchers in economics are awarded the Nobel Prize, alongside a hefty sum in winnings. All you have to do is bag a Nobel Prize. Franco Modigliani, an MIT professor who nabbed the Nobel in economics in 1985 , got about $225,000 in winnings. But, ultimately, he wanted to spend his winnings according to his own research on people's saving and spending habits. So when he was asked how he'd spend what was, in 2017 dollars, around $1.1 million in winnings, Thaler told reporters : "I will try to spend it as irrationally as possible."

Lewiston, Maine CNN —The signs were there: hearing voices, expressing paranoid thoughts and making threats so violent, extra patrols were sent to guard a military installation. Instead, law enforcement relied on the gunman’s family to keep guns from him after they tried without success to talk to the reservist. Sheriff Joel Merry told CNN on Saturday law enforcement officers weren’t able to make contact with Card during two visits. The Sagadahoc County Sheriff’s Office sent an alert to other law enforcement agencies saying they were trying to locate Card. The fact law enforcement in Maine didn’t utilize the yellow flag law in Card’s case could point to its shortcomings, Rocque said.

Bill Ackman is continuing to speak out against the divisive letter signed by Harvard student groups. "It's pathetic that we need to rely on law firms and corporations to police antisemitism on campus," he said. And Ackman, a Harvard alumnus himself, called on the university to release the students' names to stop CEOs "inadvertently" hiring them. On Wednesday, Ackman's post quoted a letter sent by law firms to the deans of several law schools. Known as a passionate and provocative theater advocate who pushed for boundary-breaking works and for classics to be adventurously modernized, Brustein founded both the Yale Repertory Theatre and the American Repertory Theatre at Harvard. He was dean of the Yale School of Drama from 1966-1979 and during that time founded the Yale Repertory Theatre. “They'll have an unresolved experience.”After a painful, highly publicized dismissal from Yale, Brustein in 1979 switched to Harvard, where he taught English and founded the American Repertory Theatre in 1980. At both Yale Rep and A.R.T., Brustein told The Boston Globe in 2012, he embraced popular theater with a nationalistic streak: “We were trying to liberate American theater from its British overseers. The light, absurd comedy, which gently mocks the lavishness of other musicals, premiered in 1994 at the American Repertory Theatre and was close to making it to Broadway.

But in first-primary state New Hampshire, Trump sits in the campaign driver's seat, with nearly half of Granite State GOP primary voters saying the former president is their first pick for the 2024 presidential nomination. Nikki Haley, who served as Trump's ambassador to the United Nations, came in second with 19% support – the highest level she has attained in New Hampshire primary polls. The survey found that voters were not very willing to shift to other candidates at this point, months before the yet-unscheduled New Hampshire primary. But the Suffolk poll indicates that Trump's legal woes have not deterred his base. "Add in second-choice votes from all the other major candidates – even if they all endorsed Haley – and Trump sits above 55%," Paleologos said.

How Classical Composers Made Music After the Holocaust
  + stars: | 2023-09-02 | by ( Kira Thurman | ) www.nytimes.com   time to read: +2 min
Perhaps she’d learned them in the early days after the war, when she’d performed with Holocaust survivors at a hospital in 1945. Jansen does not appear in Jeremy Eichler’s new book, “Time’s Echo,” but the impulse to turn to music during and after the Holocaust is at the heart of it. Eichler, The Boston Globe’s chief classical music critic, suggests that music can help us remember what we’ve lost. “Time’s Echo” is an engrossing recovery project that reveals the depths of Europe’s ability — and inability — to mourn those losses. Not only do we remember music but, just as importantly, “music also remembers us,” Eichler argues.
