It’s a system that works for the idols who make it big, but it has also drawn criticism for its grueling methods, which some call exploitative. One of the biggest stars to come out of that system is Rosé. Born Roseanne Park, she trained for four years with one of K-pop’s largest agencies, YG Entertainment, eventually breaking through as part of the girl group Blackpink. Now at age 27, she is striking out on her own with her first full-length solo album, “Rosie,” which comes out on Dec. 6 from Atlantic Records. She is still a member of Blackpink, and the group re-signed with YG in 2023.

The meetings were a chance for telecom executives to advise the government on how it could boost its defenses against sophisticated hacks, according to the White House. The hack is shaping up to be one of the biggest cyber and national security challenges facing the incoming Trump administration. But the full scope of the hack, who it affects and its impact on national security are still being investigated. Treating your weekend like a vacation helps break you out of the "routine of doing, and it allows you to just be." When measuring their happiness afterwards, she found that those with a vacation mindset showed more satisfaction and positivity when they returned to work. However, Holmes warns that there is one caveat to the vacation mindset.

A gusty, rain-soaked storm swept through the Pacific Northwest and Northern California this week, killing at least two people and knocking out power for hundreds of thousands of customers. The dangerous weather, fueled by the season’s first major atmospheric river from the Pacific Ocean, battered the region starting on Tuesday. The storm then moved into Northern California, where it disrupted hundreds of flights, flooded creeks and drenched San Francisco. More than 90,000 customers in Washington were still without power on Saturday morning, along with about 17,000 in California. In the region north of San Francisco, which includes Napa Valley, flooding is expected to continue through Saturday.

Rich countries, which are overwhelmingly responsible for historical climate change, agreed in 2009 to provide $100 billion a year by 2020 to developing countries. The G77 group of developing countries had called for a sum of $500 billion. “We have arrived at the boundary between what is politically achievable today in developed countries and what would make a difference in developing countries,” said Avinash Persaud, special advisor on climate change to the President of the Inter-American Development Bank.

But first came an invitation to have dinner in the suburbs with a senior official from their party in the Indian state of Maharashtra. They would share a car ride, and Mr. Deshmukh could catch the train from there. That, Mr. Deshmukh said, is when he realized he was being kidnapped. Mr. Deshmukh had become a pawn in what is known as “resort politics,” a longstanding practice unique to India’s rough-and-tumble democracy. To ensure that they would stick to the plan, the lawmakers were moved to other states and isolated in luxury resorts.

The market's immediate response was simply to allow Nvidia to hold onto the $2.3 trillion in market value it's added this year, but not to pile on more. Meaning the current pace of new money entering these funds is not as heavy relative to total market value as it was nearly four years ago.

In 2022, 69.3% of Americans reported some alcohol consumption in the previous year, a slight increase from 69% in 2020 and 66.34% in 2018. Though the researchers couldn’t answer exactly why alcohol consumption was so high among the US adults surveyed, Lee has a few hypotheses. The height of the pandemic also saw an average of about 488 deaths per day due to excessive alcohol consumption; there was an increase of more than 29% from 2016-17 to 2020-21. “We’ve shown in studies that liver transplants for alcohol have increased fivefold in the last 20 years. We’ve also shown that alcohol deaths due to liver disease are surging,” he said.

The firing of the missile came after the White House authorized Ukraine to fire its long-range missiles into Russia. In a televised meeting with the leadership of Russia’s defense ministry, Putin claimed the missile could not be intercepted by air defenses and said Russia will begin serial production of the new weapon. Putin added Russia was developing “several similar systems” for further testing. Mexico gained tens of thousands of jobs when U.S. and foreign automakers moved their plants to Mexico under the free trade pact to take advantage of much lower wages. But the idea that Chinese parts — or even whole cars — could be piggybacking on that arrangement to further hollow out the U.S. auto industry has enraged some people north of the border. Mexico hopes the rules of the agreement would prevent the U.S. or Canada from simply walking away when the trade pact comes up for review in 2026. Mexican officials say they have fewer imports of Chinese parts and products than the United States does. In the end, Mexico may be forced to crack down on Chinese imports, but it won't be easy.

The judge used an analogy to a video game company to explain her decision. The New York Times sued OpenAI in December, arguing that the company used its articles without permission to train ChatGPT. She then offered an analogy to explain her decision, comparing OpenAI to a video game manufacturer and the Times to a copyright holder. If a copyright holder sued a video game manufacturer for copyright infringement, the copyright holder might be required to produce documents relating to their interactions with that video game manufacturer, but the video game manufacturer would not be entitled to wide-ranging discovery concerning the copyright holder's employees' gaming history, statements about video games generally, or even their licensing of different content to other video game Manufacturers. The case is one among dozens of copyright cases filed against OpenAI, including by media organizations like the New York Daily News, the Denver Post, and The Intercept.
