The stopgap spending bill, which will fund the government until December 20, will next be sent to President Joe Biden to be signed into law. Johnson had said that he believes Trump understands that House Republicans don’t have the votes to pass the SAVE Act. The House vote was 341 to 82 with 132 Republicans and 209 Democrats voting in favor and 82 Republicans voting against. The political network largely funded by billionaire industrialist Charles Koch has been quietly backing North Carolina Lt. Gov. Mark Robinson despite a litany of controversies, according to records uncovered by CNBC. Ted Purdom, from San Anselmo, California, graduated in 2011 with a bachelor’s degree in English and enrolled in an overseas language program, aiming to learn Spanish. He ended up in Mallorca, the capital of the Balearic islands off the east coast of Spain, for the nine-month program. A friend told him about another program that placed American “language coaches” in Spain, called “Auxiliares de Conversación,” (conversation assistants), run by the Spanish Ministry of Education. So that November he opened The Bridge English Academy in Manacor, converting a former wine store into classrooms to give English language courses to locals. Then there’s the fact that the islanders’ first language isn’t Spanish, but Mallorquin, a dialect of Catalan.

Former CEO for Boeing's defense, space and security subdivision Ted Colbert speaks during a press conference in Dubai on Nov. 16, 2019. The head of Boeing 's defense unit Ted Colbert is leaving the company effective immediately, said CEO Kelly Ortberg, marking his first major executive change since he took the top job in early August. Ortberg thanked Colbert for his 15 years of service at Boeing and said the unit's Chief Operating Officer Steve Parker would take over until the company names Colbert's replacement. Boeing's defense, space and security unit generated nearly 40% of Boeing's revenue in the first half of this year, but it has struggled with production problems and cost overruns, including on the new 747s that will serve as Air Force One aircraft. Netflix has done a lot of things it's said it wouldn't, from becoming an ad-supported streaming platform to including live sports in its programming. When asked why the company has repeatedly gone back on its word at the Fast Company Innovation Festival 2024 on Wednesday, Netflix co-CEO Ted Sarandos explained that, at the time, those declarations probably felt accurate. "'Never' is a focusing word," said Sarandos, who's held his co-CEO role since 2020. This month, Netflix — which has a market capitalization of $303.04 billion, as of Thursday afternoon — announced that it'll begin live streaming NFL games on Christmas Day. For Sarandos, declaring that the company would "never" go down certain paths was, at least partially, about productivity.

When Netflix released a rundown of its most-watched movies and TV shows for the first half of the year on Thursday, its TV rankings offered few surprises. (Netflix bases the data on hours viewed for every title — original and licensed — that was watched for over 50,000 hours.) That robust landing page has allowed Netflix to eschew spending tens of millions of dollars promoting many of its original films. GOP presidential nominee Donald Trump has called for Republicans to shut down the government if they can’t pass the voting measure known as the SAVE Act. Many Democrats are pushing for an extension into December that would not include the SAVE Act, which is viewed as a non-starter in the Senate. “House Republicans don’t seem to have any plan for actually keeping the government open, so the Senate will step in,” Schumer said in floor remarks. “Many Republican House members, as many of you have reported, are smart enough to know if there is a shutdown, it will be a Republican shutdown. Washington CNN —The House failed on Wednesday to pass a six-month GOP government funding plan that included a controversial measure targeting noncitizen voting, an effort pushed by Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump. The House vote was 202 to 220, with 14 Republicans voting against it, two Republicans voting present and three Democrats voting for it. Johnson would not reveal on Wednesday ahead of the planned vote what he would do if the GOP government funding plan fails and said he has spoken to Trump “a lot” about government funding after the former president floated a government shutdown. Trump had previously said that if Republicans don’t receive “absolute assurances” about election security, they should not pass a funding extension. The six-month funding plan from House Republicans would have extended government funding until March 2025.
